Is that because of the chain that I have on my board? I have looked at GigRig stuff but it is a huge investment. If used an LS2 in my current chain what would happen? Or what could I achieve?
Let me have a think and I'll get back to you. Something like the Carl Martin Octa Switch would do it as you can set up 8 specific combinations of pedals and pop between them. The GigRig stuff would work too. Expensive though. I can't think of a way to do it with your average loop/line selector.
-

Well it depends which bass I am using! With the passive jazz I have the pre on all the time but with other basses I just use the pre when slapping to thicken up the bottom end. My signal chain goes as follows: Preamp (when used) to Polytune to Octabass to Filter Twin to Y cable to Brown Dog and Agent 00 Funk to Mu-Tron III to Bass Envelope Filter to Multi Comp and then to Uni Chorus and then the amp.
Your post implies that you only use mu-tron and octave, then Pre and comp. So, do you actually want Pre, mu-tron and octave, then Pre and comp? In that case... Bass - Pre - LS-2 Loop A: Mu-Tron - Octave Loop B: Comp Amp The signal will always go through the Pre, then either mu-tron and octave OR compressor. Shep
-

Never tried the MOD at all - can it do synthy?
Gunsfreddy2003, Try the MXR Octave Deluxe pedal. I play my 74 Jazz through mine and, having tried numerous octave pedals, this is by far the most consistent and reliable for live playing that I've found. It also records very well. Most importantly, it sounds fantastic. Mike
-

Not sure how that would work as the Sadowsky pre sits before the Mu-Tron. It has to be there because when using my jazz bass I have to boost the input into the Mu-Tron to get the filters to open properly. Any ideas?
You could use an LS-2... Loop A has the octave and Mu-tron in and loop B has the pre and compressor. Set the LS-2 to A/B mode and you can pop between the 2 as much as you like. Bear in mind though that whatever comes before of after the LS-2 will effect both channels
-

Hi all, Looking to try and put a loop in here somewhere so that I don't have to tap dance quite so much! I use the Mu-Tron and the Octabass for the verse in one tune and then switch straight to both off and compressor and Sadowsky pre-amp on for the chorus. Any ideas where I could put a Boss line selector in to make this easier - what would it be best replacing on the board? Also toying with switching the Octabass for an Aguilar Octamiser - anyone have any thoughts on this? Never heard of them but their website looks good so I am going to give them a call tomorrow and see what they can offer.
I'm also looking to insure my gear on a proper policy, and spotted a thread on here awhile ago about New Moon Insurance, and I'm going to sort it out next week. They're a new(ish) company formed from guys who used to work for Cornhill and Allianz (I think)< and wanted to start a firm specifically doing musical instrument insurance. The policies are underwritten by Hiscox, who are one of the best, and the prices seem extremely reasonable compared to quotes I've had from other firms. I spoke to them on the phone yesterday and they were very helpful and knowledgeable, and the cover seems very comprehensive. It can include theft from an unattended vehicle, and they say that they appreciate that not everything fits in the boot/glovebox. When I asked them more about this, they said that as long as it's not glaringly obvious what you've got in there and you've done as much as possible to conceal it, then they'll pay out. They gave the example that if you had a bass on the back seat, as long as you had a blanket/sheet/coats or whatever covering it, that would be fine. I also quizzed them about what if I'm loading up after a gig, take my amp out to the car, and then when I get back in my bass has disappeared off the stage. Technically you've left the instrument unattended in a public place so it's often a grey area. NM told me that this would probably just go down as a "lost" instrument and they would pay out, no worries. Whether they are as good as they sound or not, I don't know, but I'm certainly going to give them a go.
Afternoon, I have always insured my gear on our house contents insurance and had a guitar or two listed as a specified item because the values were a little bit higher etc. However, I am thinking that I would like to leave some of my gear at our rehearsal room and naturally my household insurance will not cover this. I looked into the policy from the Musicians Union and decided to try and put all of my gear on one policy but they have a limit of up to £10k and sadly everything that I wanted insured went over this amount. Anyone else got any tips on good policies and cover elsewhere?

Yeah I know - the gigs where they have a full road crew!
I have the TD650 and HD350 - I must admit, the HD350 is getting more outtings at the moment! Its the bigger gigs that see the 650 being rolled out!
+ 1 for the Contego - a great gigbag.
Protec Contego. Rigid sides, front and back, plenty of padding, good storage space and decent handles and shoulder straps. I like mine a lot too .
I bet you are - it could really help your back!!
I heard this at Frankfurt - it did sound awesome. Had the typical EBS tone although not having tried it out in the field, I can't say how it copes in gigging situations yet. Defo watching this one...
A bit of topic but I was down at the luthiers in Bristol on Saturday having both of my 'rays attended to and the first thing he said was have you thought about changing to a Bartolini pick up! Anyone have any advice or recommendation on this? Don't think that I would do anything to the '77 but the Classic 5 maybe!
Ta guys, I'm not sure still. It sounds different (but good) to my Alnico Rays, I have a hunch that the new style pup cover came in earlier than 2008 when the Alnico was reintroduced, it might not be the original pickup either for all I know? Saw Eltham on Saturday and appears to have fixed the two Stingrays!! Just need a re-fret on the Jazz at some point. Great guy and really seems to know his stuff. Thanks for the heads up really appreciate it. Mark
He works out of Mickleburgh music in Stoles Croft, basically very close to the center. I'm in Greenbank/Easton. If it is dead simple, I can do it, Eltham is known as The Wizard though.
-
I am not saying that they may not be better than the bergs but I like those cabs and will keep them no matter what - I am interested in these as a lightweight option and in addition to what I use already. Of course if they blew my socks off then who knows what might happen in the future. I would just like to try them out in the first instance.
They aren't 'painted grey'. The finish isn't just a grey paint but a sprayed on heavy duty coating. What makes you think that these can't be better than bergs? Peter
Yes I think that they look a lot better than Barefaced and I think have some really good thought behind them too. There are reasons why I would want to try these but needless to say they would not be replacing my Berg's!!
Be interested to see how you think they sound compared with a Barefaced. Are they more professional looking because they are painted grey and have more writing on? Great to see so many makers on the scene, would love to try them all!
Really liking the look of these cabs - how much are they going to sell for and do you have any retailers stocking them? Would be keen to try them out.
You would be astounded at how many variations of size and position of the logo I looked at before going for what I did. I am in a fortunate position to have a number of cabs to carry out trials on. cabs with no logo, just a perforated grill, and I literally covered the areas that I wanted to place the logo on to hear the effect it has.....Its certainly not done with no consideration to the effects Keep this in mind. The grill is set away from the port by about 35mm. The logo solid area is about 20mm wide..... The port at exit diameter is roughly 120mm I ran low freq level test tones and obviously played cabs side by side. Try it yourself on a cab at some point - remember you are not shoving something right at the exit of the port, but placing something over the grill that is set well away from the port exit. The logo over the port location made no audible difference to the cab. The foundation 112's are shaping up nicely but until I have tried a few more options on drivers and crossovers, then I am not going to rush into production with them. The grills on these have Logo badges for the time being, but final production runs will be CNC punched as the Foundation 212. I try and carry out trials with a realistic approach, and concentrate on live testing where possible. These are going to be at the UK bass day and London Bass show for anybody who wants to come along for a chat Dave
Prepared to bet a lot that more people on here have heard of Bernie Goodfellow and his basses than have heard of Acme cabs!! However, I also realise that the nature of a boutique luthier means that should I wish to sell my Rumour tomorrow then I would lose a lot of money against what I paid for it.
All the cabs in the pic that Alex posted before hold their value very well, although you may not be aware of it as they're more popular in the US. Acme cabs are the most common over here out of those and they get snapped up on this site. Just because it's not a brand you have heard of doesn't mean they don't hold their value, there's plenty of people who will pay for quality and know what brands to look for. That's the nature of boutique gear, those prepared to seek it out are also prepared to pay for it. I see you own a GB bass, should probably have just bought a Squier, after all not many bass players know what a GB is do they?
-
Ok, well remember that in the future when you like the rest of us decide to change your gear and suddenly find that no-one wants to buy whichever of these cabs you like because they have no name or reputation! I am sure that at that time you will give a monkey's !!!!! Agree that you should choose with your ears and not your eyes but it must be impossible to find may retailers that stock all of these cabs.
So... Are Bergantino or Aguilar producing super 1x12 cabs? I really don't understand the fuss about what any of these cabs look like. Last on my list behind how they sound (or how they don't), how well they're built and easy they are to move. What brand they are? couldn't give a monkey's.
Ha ha ha!
With the look of all these cabs, I thought I had just walked into Maplins...
-
Call me fussy but I would not buy any of them - I don't know the brand names and I don't muck like the look of them either! If I look at a Bergantino or Aguilar 12' cab they just look a whole lot better - of course the fact that most people on Basschat rave about them also helps shape opinions too!
Here's the other 'Super 1x12' cabs on the market - Acme Low-B112: Audiokinesis Thunderchild TC112: Baer ML112: And a fEarful 12/6 (cosmetically these all vary depending on who builds them!)
Just picking up on a comment that was made - not saying that it has any huge relevance!!
Righto. Have to agree to disagree there. Mine is fine and dandy. The finish and build is functional and there's no problem at all with the workmanship. Quite the opposite. And again... considering the thread is about Super 12s... and what they're all about, what relevance has it? Looks very similar to mine but too small
Similar but different! It was the one that did a tour around the UK about 18 months ago.
What, like this? Unfortunately look and brand name has everything to do with what we buy or not and this is not unique to just musical equipment. You can talk all day about how great something is but if you have never heard of it then of course there is always a natural sceptiscm. I have had a Barefaced cab on trial and unfortunately would concur with JTUK that they do look homemade - sorry!
What has what the cabs look like got to do with how they work? Have you seen a Barefaced cab in the flesh? I can assure you, they don't look "home made".
