  1. £40 posted Now discontinued, this is a US made reissue of a ‘57 P Bass pickup, with the raised A string pole pieces. Bought in 2005, and installed in a bass since, so covers have signs of usage. Here’s the info: Fender Pickup 1957 Precision Bass Reissue, 19740 Raised pole piece at the A position The electric bass starts with the Precision Bass. The bass pickup that invented "funk" is still virtually unchanged today with the 57 P-Bass pickup. Made with Alnico 5 magnets and enamel coated magnet wire, this P-Bass pickup provides the humbucking punch and boom associated with the electric bass.
  2. I’ve had a few of these, sound immense with the old pickup. The cases are so cute too. Nice 👍
  3. Yeah it’s nearly there, more closer to a 70s style clinical Jazz if anything. As my neck pup is further forward that the Special, and with the way it’s been wired, it actually turned out much like position 4 on a HH Ray.
  4. lol! I had it done in 2005... Active / passive - 2 way switch for MM pups Precision / MM split coil / MM normal - 3 way switch MM pups - 3 way selector switch. Then normal MM 2 band EQ and stacked vol/ tone for the Precision pup So it’s a little bit like a Ray, Precision, Jazz and Sabre all in one! ... hence why some of my basses are now fearing the exit... 😳 😂
  5. Bought back my old ‘95 Ray recently, so here’s a photo with its mates, a Special & Old Smoothie. Edit - now also pictured with the ‘95 restored to original.
  6. Cheers, that post made me smile too, too true 😁👍
  7. I hear that, this one was a killer too in the weight dept. Since around 2 years after i bought it I’ve had permanent damage, and whilst not directly caused my the bass, my stubborn devotion to it added to the issues. Happy to sit with it though 😍😂 Hope you find yours 👍 I was emailing the guy I sold it to annually until 2016, since then been hoping to see it every time I’m on BC or eBay - was literally like a 4 year old a Xmas when I saw the listing on Thursday!
  8. You’re 100% right, I really wouldn’t be able to. I’m fortunate to have re-purchased a couple of selling regrets, but this one feels beyond fortunate tbh 👍
  9. I’m out 😋 After many years fantasising about getting back my old StingRay, I saw it on eBay and just won it back. Huge sentimental value, bought as an 18 year old and was my first proper bass, used for 12 years with loads of good memories. Sadly sold in 2009 when I was having a hard time and made one or two bad decisions. I hoped to last the year in abstinence, but couldn’t be happier now 😁😁😁
  10. I thought the 2018 Specials were hugely innovative - ergonomics, preamp, pickup, hardware.... Shame about the new colours or prices - both not for me either.
  11. The Dead lived to play live really, so Europe 72 is a good start IMO, or Live/Dead if you want a trippier one.
  12. Better keep my glass half full then to stop the GAS 🥃
  13. Only bought a nice Martin 0018 in 2019, but went nuts in 2020... Lull PJ4 & Old Smoothie Stingray were bought back from the guys I sold them to, well chuffed with that. An awesome Bravewood Jazz came in. Modulus Flea came in, then out. Lull M4V came in but then out too. Gibson SG in Pelham Blue with P90’s came in, plus a Pro Jr and pedals. So I’m on a well earned buying ban this year... I hope... 😋
  14. Surprised the 66 fretless is still for sale, it’s a cool spec. Suppose because his relics are so good his other stuff isn’t as desirable? I’d have bought the 66 if I had more space at home, bet it’s gorgeous.
  15. Loved mine as a 15 year old FNM fan, but it was the cheaper passive one, not the higher spec on BG used. Sold it when my Stingray came along - no contest there - but would love to play on one like BG used - suppose his was Japanese? Anyone know?
  16. Buy it, and offer to sell it back to him when he’s a got a new car and you got the Jazz you want from him 😁
  17. Who else is procrastinating? Someone please buy that fretless! 😂
  18. Definitely an under valued bass compared to other comparable quality makers.
  19. That P Bass is more than I paid for my Jazz brand new last year 🤔 Edit - maybe SB is more pricey than blonde due the elements? Still, I think his basses are easily worth that money, the quality is awesome. I’m not really into relics, which made me nearly sell mine once or twice, but it’s just too good to actually let go. If that P was nearer to me then I could have been in trouble.
  20. Not disagreeing with you, the video is haunting - you’ve pretty much described the lyrics there too, AIC can be a hard listen sometimes.
  21. Hard to beat a 112 for value for money eh? Nice colour 👍
  22. You asked if it’s a good deal - personally I’d avoid this one, it’s got low quality tuners and the body is not solid, so for me this is a cheap bass and wouldn’t be worth the risk or extra money needed to put it right. Not liking the look of that neck either to be honest.
  23. Hanks had 4 different owners since the early 90s, and moved due to the current owner downsizing and keeping the one shop with the cheapest rent, which is the old Andy’s at number 27. It went from just acoustics to a bit of everything. Knowing the owner well, I personally avoid it. Wunjo first moved from around the corner, and then into Denmark St. Other moves after that were due to the order of the building works and subsequent deals with the landlords; aside from the expansion sister shops like bass & keys. Bryant’s and Maccaris were similar, moving into Denmark St from around the corner. Since my time there, starting in ‘93, there’s been lots of ownership changes all around, that alters the landscape.
