  1. GHS Precision are the best I’ve had on mine. Nice warm tone with some punch.
  2. If after getting used to playing again it doesn’t go away, then a short scale is worth a try IMO - a short scale was my main gigging bass for many years, definitely helped with my physical issues and at the time made it easier on me than a full scale. Could also be a reflection on underlying issues with your neck, shoulder or back; or posture. Just mentioning that as something to look out for perhaps. Best of luck.
  3. I tend to think gold hardware should be banned - but there’s some absolute stunners here so I’ll ask Frank to put John Hall into Room 101 instead 😊
  4. I stand corrected - turns out they sound great on my ‘95 2 Band Ray 👍
  5. Price drop - £20 posted Cut for a StingRay, could also be used on a 2+2 head. Have been on a bass with through body stringing, and put on/off a couple of times. Amazing string, my favourite all rounder flatwound, not too old school, not too bright and clanky. Just that I prefer lighter gauges so now using Group IV. Had just a few months of use.
  6. £23 posted These came with a bass I bought, and judging by the silk have been on and off a few times. They were cut for Hipshot tubers and give about 2 wraps around a std Fender tuner. Didn’t give me any tuning issues. Great strings, but I prefer lighter gauges.
  7. There can be a few factors here. On one hand it could be as the Jazz is different to what you’re used to, or the set up or strings are different. I’m sure other folks will give views on factors. But sometimes I’ve found it’s just the character of that particular bit of wood , so in some cases the same model of bass can sound different, so also noticeable when playing up the neck - I’ve experienced this before on guitars too.
  8. Totally get why you’d think that Paul - for a Ray they have a unique softness and mellowness to them, yet still sound like a Ray should and pack a punch if you want it.
  9. If you’re willing to come to Harrow, I might be up for a trade or partial trade for another bass - please PM
  10. Similar thing happened with a duff Custom Shop Fender P Bass my mate bought, it’s a shame some retailers don’t spot this. Was obvious the neck was gone yet the shop didn’t spot, or give two hoots about, the cr*p set up and had absolutely no idea - and even needed to take it to a tech to work it out 🙄 Same shop later sold him another duff used Custom Shop Jazz with a messed up neck, they tried to bulls*it us that it was fine and ‘typical Fender’, but for the next few months it was off the website but still in the shop for sale - I know that as a guy I sold a CS Jazz to had tried it there and was also surprised they had it up for sale. Made my blood boil tbh. Anyway, they’re not trading anymore, but it’s a shame they didn’t get into learning how to set up basses or spot blatant issues.
  11. Love my Old Smoothie, I reckon someone will be a very happy chappy / chapess 😊 Bump for a top fella and a gorgeous unique bass 👍
  12. I have EB Group on my Smoothie, and EB Cobalt on my 2 band Ray, both 40-95 as I prefer the tone and feel of that gauge on Rays. Both strings are excellent, I probably just favour Groups as they are a more middle ground flat - not too modern, not too old school. I have Thomastik on my P & J basses, but for me those strings didn’t suit me on any Ray.
  13. That £19 charge is insane. I was going to list a bass on eBay soon, but thanks to this thread those days are now over. Long live BC.
  14. Hats off to you, great collection 😍

  16. Man that’s sweet 👏
  17. Oh yeah, it’s 5 string twin, almost! Hope all’s well pal
  18. Sure is 👍
  19. Very nice bass - how can you resist not having the pair? 😊
