1.
. If all the music stores & musicians left Denmark street & ended up somewhere cheaper there would be less financial pressure on the shops (which could open up wider stock ranges) and so long as they were all still in the same area as each other the arty vibe would still be there.
Good call mate. Before Denmark Street, the music shops were in Shaftsbury Avenue, they moved to to Denmark Street for the cheaper rent. I reckon it'd be good for the shops to move as a whole where the rent isn't crazy - but still easy to access for tourists and suchas they need that footfall. Idealisticly speaking of course!
 2. I worked in Denmark St from 1993 - 2006. This development has been talked about since I got there, I kid you not. The council have had more than enough to time to think about this. Cash in their favour will win, music loses. For many years the floors above the shops have been offices, now they are all being kicked out and it is being replaced with residential. The shops, that are deep enough to go into Denmark Place will be cut in half soon enough with one shop taken out entirely to make a walkway to the cross rail. We will be losing half of Wunjo, Westside etc. The landlords are swearing that music will remain, but if the shops are paying 80,000 a year rent, they would say that. Damn shame, modern life and all...
 3. This has been a great read. I have an acoustic bass I bought aged 16, for a cheap one it is surprisingly great and i was never tempted to upgrade. I did some gigs on it about 8 years ago which was something I'll cherish. These days though it just hangs on the wall gathering dust. I'd never sell it though, it's too good and has too many memories. I've always quickly moved on electric basses that werent getting used in order to fund others I would use. If that wasn't part of my general philosophy I'd regret a few sales now, having said that I admire people that kept hold of them.
 4. Cheers everyone for their chipping in on this one, some of those comments really made me think. When both agreeing and disagreeing with your posts it made me realise what I need to do. First things first, these are just bits of wood right? Seems silly to be getting so thoughtful, however we all know what it's like to find great basses... I've decided not to go crazy and get the Lulll, but to keep the 55 and eventually sell the 64. The Lull can be a wishlist to save up for now. The 55 is just far too unique and would be an absolute headache to replace. The 64 is by far the nicest Precision I've had in my hands for a very long time, but a Lull or similar CS would do the trick for me. The identical 64 I just sold was just as good, they seem like the best CS series I've come across I'm a good while. So it's last in first out, not sure when I'll sell it though, I have a few months at least before I'll need the cash. I'll either decide to get some mileage out of it until then or just let it go as that will be the inevitable anyway. One thing is for sure, it'll be coming to the For Sale section sometime soom. Thanks again all.
 5. It's great to have your opinion thanks. I agree, if I only had to have one bass then a Jazz would cover it. Strange saying that being a big P Bass fan but the Jazz can cover a lot of ground.
 6.
If they were mine, the modulus would be out the door. But since that's not an option, I think the 55 is the one that needs to go, from what you've said. Sorry to hear that one has to go though, hope you can avoid selling one. EDIT Because I got confused. Haha. Also, if you're considering the Mike Lull, make sure you play it first. Sounds obvious, but it's amazing how many don't!
Haha, I was more with you before you edited, when you said the 64 should go! I reckon that'll change daily though? This morning I was thinking 'sell the 64 and buy the Lull (if I like it) keep the 55' then I duley remembered that I need to be letting one go. Doh. So no love for Modulus then? The boyhood Chili's fan wouldn't let me get away with that, I love using that bass when jamming to their records. A fender it must be....
 7.
Keep the white 64. Aside from the colour it`s probably of more use to you. Though saying that, can`t the sound of the 55 be tamed with eq? I have to do similar with my 78 as it is a very aggresive sound, but can dumb it down somewhat.
Good idea about eq, I tried it recently. It was close, but no cigar, the natural element that the 55 has was missing. Yeah, the 64 is of more use, that's certainly true.
Convert the lot into a Mike Lull P bass and some cash.
That is tempting.....
If you're in no rush to decide, stick the 55 in it's case and put it under the bed for a few weeks to see how much you miss it. Then get it back out and do the same with the 64, whichever one you've missed the most stays!
Good idea, I'd have to be careful to not feel like a NBD when I get it back out though!
Keep them all and sell a kidney.
I like that, I could probably get a few other basses too if I get the right price. Cheers fella's
 8.
I'd love to hear the 55, having never played a CS model. I have a 'customised' 63 jazz that sounds immense and I know what you mean about filling the room. I've been unsuccessfully trying to find that huge tone in a lighter weight bass for years - even other pre CBS Js don't have it IME. I don't like the tone from split coil Precisions and I wonder if the single coil 55 would sound closer to my Jazz's neck pick up. Your 55 is absolutely gorgeous in my eyes and if it sounds as special as you say, I hope you keep it.... Otherwise I might not be able to resist
I'm not sure what it is about the 55, is the light weight swamp ash body? The stacked pickup with less mids than a split P? The fact that the maple neck is chunky? A tree made by pixies? All or none of the above? I have no idea, but would love to know. It'd be interesting to play another next to mine. Bassgear and GAK both have one if you're nearby. I hope I can keep it too mate. This thread may just be making things worse....
 9.
Definitely keep the '55, it sounds like it's a very special one. I get the feeling you would regret selling that one the most. Lull's are excellent basses and also very light in weight by all accounts..
You hit the nail on the head, twice. Cheers!
 10.
No food on the table = lose weight, plus you keep basses. Win/win situation? I reckon if you want a Precision because of the classic tone, keep the one that gives you a classic tone and sell the other one.
I want it all Paul!!!!!!!!
 11.
To be able to make any serious decision I think we need some pictures of the basses in question
Haha, good point Chris! Here is a link to the CS porn thread, it's on the October 11th post. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/245589-fender-custom-shop-gear-porn/
 12.
This makes sense if you can cope without the 55. How does the sound of the 55 compare with your 64 Precision and Jazz basses? Is the tone similar to the neck pick up on the Jazz, or more like the Precision? Or is it so different that you cannot get close with a J or split coil P bass?
Cheers. The 55 has something very special and unique, it can't be replicated on the Jazz or 64 P Bass. The way that bass fills the room is extraordinary, I love the way it alters the way I think about playing. Sad thing is, I hardly ever manage to get out and play anymore due to health issues, though if that ever changed I'd love a bass like the 55 to use sometimes in a band situation. For now, it's great for playing along to old records like Neil Young or Creedence.
 13. Cheers, there is some good logic in that. I'll seriously miss that huge sound, I guess that is what's making it a hard choice, glad I got some time to think this one through. Seriously though, I'd have kept my old Fender logo Squier bass if it hadn't been too heavy for me! I appreciate your thoughts
 14. From those pics it looks good and period correct. I'm pretty certain that back then Fender were still cutting up the regular headstock decals and using the 'Fender' part for lefties. Always good to get pics of the neck, pocket, pickup and pots etc when buying vintage. Given the condition of that one, I reckon it could all be good under the hood, but do check! Looks lovely.
 15.
Ha ha ha I know! Being redundant at the moment's making me put things into perspective. Didn't mean to sound quite so utilitarian! Alex
Sorry to hear that, know how it feels. But yeah, it does make scaling down more appealing, just perhaps not a Mex?!
 16.
Sell them all and buy a Mex P. Financial hardship's no laughing matter. What's more important to you? Being able to put food on the table or "having the right tone, man"? Truckstop
Luckily my financial position isn't as extreme as your comment.
 17.
Well... I love white basses me, so if you need to put your CS 64 out of harm's way for a while...
Cheers pal, buy frying pan and fire spring to mind....!
 18. Mrs Chiliwailer and I have been looking at bills and budgets for next year, it's looking quite likely that a bass may have to go. Shame, as I just bought a lovely new one recently and was feeling smug and contented with the current basses on my wall. I know for sure that my Modulus and Jazz Bass are going nowhere. Odd really as I'm mostly a Precision player, but they are killers and are very useful and hard to replace. If i sell my new CS 64 Precision then I'm going to be sore that I dont have that classic sound, and I'll be even more annoyed as this 64 is the nicest Fender Precision I've had in my hands for a seriously long time, and it's the first time I haven't missed my original 64 P Bass I sold a few years back. But it's white, and I'm still struggling to get my head around that, I never did get on with white basses. So this bass is surely substance over style for me. I could sell my CS 55 Precision, the bass that was proper love at first sight. It sounds HUGE, bigger than other passive Fenders I've owned, it's a monster and even better, it's only 7.5lbs in weight which is great as I have neck and back issues. Plus, it's black, ash and maple, mmmmm..... But, it's a killer sound that isn't going to be as useful as a classic Precision for me. Or, I could sell them both and buy a Mike Lull P Bass that is available. Super light weight, amazing tone and black! Could I turn this negative experience of possibly needing to sell a bass into a fun NBD experience that softens the blow? I like Lull basses but haven't played this particular one yet, plus I may not need to actually sell for a few months so it's all just a thought for now. One that needs a post like this for some friendly advice and thought provoking reading matter! Cheers!
 19. Mate, that is stunning, nice one! The Dustys sure are great basses, but then so must be your new Jazz. Therefore, I reckon this won't be the last CS you buy.....
 20. Dani bought a bass from me. He is friendly, reliable and very easy to deal with. Cheers!
 21. Congrats! You've got some great tones covered there, they compliment each other nicely. Enjoy!
 22. Nice one, cheers for the link, look forward to watching this one...
 23. Big love for TI's, have them on my Jazz and a Precision. Good move!
 24.
ill take it for 1650 pounds if you ship to the US
I've woken up thinking that I'll sell at £1750.......
