And the younger you are when doors close, the number of new doors increases. Blue
Not sure I'm with you there from a personal point of view. it's quality over quantity, one door opened for me, it was a good one and my life has more meaning now and purpose in a wider context.

Health issues. However one door closes, another opens, and life moves on. I've been lucky, that the opening door had some good stuff behind it.
I've got news for you - it still is!!
Sweet! Where's my sleeping bag.....

Looks like a cool venue, great to see the pics. I spent a couple of months sleeping in that basement back in 2006, it was a partially flooded stinking mess of a place back then - nice to see its got a proper purpose now.

Job well done sir.

Up for sale is a killer 'players' Telecaster, made in 1977. This isn't a trebly twangy Tele, it's got some balls to go along with the great clean tones typical of a Tele. It's super comfortable, has a gorgeous neck, not like the ones often found on the post 1978 Tele's that were clubby and unshapely, this Tele plays sweetly. It's not a backbreaking typical 70's Fender - weighs in at a nice 8.07lbs. Comes with:

Fender Custom Shop Twisted Tele pickups - ORIGINAL PICKUPS ARE INCLUDED IN THE SALE
Kluson Machine Heads - ORIGINAL MACHINE HEADS ARE INCLUDED IN THE SALE
Custom Shop 4 way selector switch - allows the neck and bridge pick up to be used in series, like a humbucker - very cool.
Hiscox STD-EF hard case, with key.
The pots have been changed over the years and three of the rear string ferrules have been replaced (The metal bits on the back, where the strings go into the body). Truss rod, neck and everything are functioning as they should. This is a great workhorse of a guitar, 38 years worth of playing and natural relicing, plus it's cheaper than a new Fender USA reissue. Reasoning 1) A good Jazz Bass is a good Jazz Bass, so easily replaceable. It's typical for players to return to a Jazz or P after a period of time, though of course not always. Reasoning 2 ) If you're sentimental and ever return to a Jazz Bass after selling it.... Basses are just wood, there are tons out there. But there is only one that perhaps means something to you - if you're that kind of guy. From experience, I've moved on and sold my sentimental ones for required upgrades needed or wanted at the time. Sure, it'd be fun to have them back if I had the cash, but I don't lose any sleep over it. But, like Howie said, nowt wrong with keeping it to be sentimental.

Keep an eye on gbase.com, spares often turn up there with patience. It's good for links to US guitar shops too so you could fire off some emails.

Mr Brewer is one of my best mates, and you'll never find him far from some amazing basses. I suggested that he use the site when he said that he needs to sell a bass. Though he's a newbie, he's genuine. This CS Precision is gorgeous, the tone is absolutely spot on and it looks great, especially the bits where the Candy Apple Red comes through, looks amazing in the flesh. Yeah, fun basses, unique tone but oh so heavy for a short scale during this period. Put some flats on and you'll have the Air - Moon Safari sound, I remember a lot of people going nuts for that tone in the late 90's, some say it was a MM but who knows? I used to have a couple of 71 Musicmasters, one original and one heavily modded with P Bass pickups, they are much lighter with amazing necks, but certainly not the best basses out there.
Yep, included a 57, a 66, a 71 and a (my) 78 Precision and the Hoppus beat them all significantly.
I don't mean to disrespect the Hoppus basses, they are good basses I know. But the quarter pounder pickup will always sound much bigger and more impressive than most P Bass pickups when played on its own and that can easily sway people if just hearing the bass going through an amp. I have friends that swear by them, personally I never liked them in the mix - only as they don't suit my style. And as noted earlier, it's all about the mix. Edit - I'm talking about the quarterpounder pickup, not the Hoppus bass!
I don't have a band and I don't mix it - I am a beginner who needs to practice this way because I am on the road a lot. When I am with my bass teacher it is something like "in the mix" because I play along songs or drum computers and it is okay there. Doesn't help me too much when I practice without any music and simply annoy myself with the noise I make But it seems like I have to live with that, which is okay ...
I mostly play with headphones at home. I've been using the Panasonic ones in the link below for years now. That are well rated by what hi if and cost under £50. Last year I went to a hi fi shop with my bass set up and £250, hoping to come home with some better headphones. Though the mp3's I play along to sounded better on the expensive ones, the bass was massively better on the Panasonic, more depth, clarity and punch. The bass tone was most important for me,always nice to hear the tone of your bass. I came home with my original headphones and my cash. Nice. http://www.whathifi.com/panasonic/rp-htx7/review

It was my pleasure to sell a bass to Chris. Due to a late train and quick meet at the station we only had a brief chance to chat, but even that and an earlier phone call was more than enough to work out Chris is a genuine good guy and someone you'd definitely buy a pint. Great communication, easy payment and all round easy and pleasurable sale (aside from the fact he pinched a damn good bass from me!). All the best pal, enjoy that amazing bass!

No; just kidding..! It's fine. Well done. Now then, get on over to the monthly BC Composition Challenge and put us all to shame..!
Haha! Cheers for the approval Ok, give me some time to work this out, plus I won't be playing bass or guitar for at least 8 weeks after the surgery. (Just one handed drum and keyboard work for me, Pet Shop Boys anyone?) However when that time is up, I'll be more than happy to repay the forum by embarrassing myself to the masses with a contribution! -

Looks like I didn't see the full page, I haven't got the upgrade, that's £399, lol!!! Reckon I'll give Cubase free edition a go, should suit my humble needs. Still happy. No need for you all to crash the GAK site now. -
I use Reaper, my usb audio interface is a Tascam US-144 (bought s/h from a member here...). My keyboard: M-Audio Keystation Mini 32. I use several drum programmes, but they can become expensive (Toontrack EZDrummer 2, Superior Drums, BFD2, MDrummer, principally, but also occasionally Soundfont drums, which are free...) and several vst virtual instruments/orchestras which, again, can work out expensive (Philharmonik, SampleTank, Edirol, Spectrasonics Trilian and more...). Start off with the minimum and build up as your needs develop. You're unlikely to end up with exactly the same system as anyone else, but we all chip in with our viewpoints, as there is a lot of commonality in all of this. I wouldn't get too hung up on interfaces; at the prices we're addressing here, they're all much of a muchness (ie; blooming good..!). If/when one goes further up-market, other criteria become more important, but add nothing that my old cloth ears could appreciate.

Sorry, I was editing when you posted. A link for the Cubase A1 spec above. Of course Reaper is the full version, Cubase A1 has limited track count, 32 Audio and 48 Midi, (ample for most) Has a bunch of soft Synths included, as well as a good selection of FX. Plus it has the notation midi editor as well as PRV. Upgrade path to the bigger versions is good as well. A ton of YouTube tutorial vids out there and a subscription to the Steinberg YouTube tutorial channel is worth while.
Oops, thought I'd multi quoted, see post above! Thanks again! -

Gentlemen, thankyou so much for your help tonight. I'll keep hold of this thread and refer back to it when need be, some great advice here. I just bought the Steinberg from GAK for £99, it came with a free limited time only type upgrade for Cubase 8. I can't see how I'd ever need more than that. EDIT- scrap that, my bad eyes and ipad made me get a tad misled.mit comes with the regular AI. I'll look forward to checking this out and then exploring further when I'm off work. I think you're right Douglas, take it easy and not over complicate things by tons of extras, great advice. Cheers fella's, I've gone from 'not a clue' to a new purchase. -
The Steinberg UR22 Audio & Midi interface.(comes with a cut down version of Cubase, if you need a DAW) Good Pre-Amps that are as good, and some cases better than any budget units out there. Solid ASIO and very low latency. You won't find a bad review anywhere. https://www.steinberg.net/en/products/audio_interfaces/ur_serie/modelle/ur22.html £99 with free delivery. https://www.steinberg.net/en/products/audio_interfaces/ur_serie/modelle/ur22.html
Thank you, looking good! I like that I can have a MIDI option, just in case I ever need it. The specs look spot on too, and Cubase AI may be enough for me. Have you used Cubase AI? Any cons to having that over the full version, or Reaper? Cheers! -
Basically , the likes of EZ drummer have various drum beats , grooves an fills that you can choose to load in to your project , once loaded you can edit what gets played , the timing of it and the velocity( how hard it appears to be hit) , from within a midi chart , where you can draw in extra parts to play or erase parts you want out . it looks a bit odd to start with , but I am sure a 'midi editing 'search in you tube will throw up examples with whichever DAW you choose.
Thanks for that great explanation, sounds nice and user friendly once used to it. I really appreciate your input. I'm just deciding now what interface to go for. I reckon I'll go for Reaper so I can save a tenner by getting Focusrite over M Audio and the free Cubase version, but then again, I like the idea of having effects designed by Hendrix's engineer coming free with the M Audio....decisions decisions.... -
focusrite scarlett 2i2 user here aswell , Reaper user aswell , I don't use a lot of midi , but I have a midi/Usb cable that Reaper recognises . Though EZ drummer is midi I tend to edit existing grooves in reaper rather than compose from scratch , but I don't do complicated !! I started off on a laptop and had no real problems , a few clicky artifacts in the playback were a bit of a pain , but the head phone socket stopped working so I eventually got a proper PC . As I type this I just realised I could use the 2i2 as the Digital-Analogue converter , and still be listening to the lappy if I needed to
Better have another look at Focusrite then! What do you mean by drim editing existing grooves in reaper? Thank you.
