2.

Pete, is that an old Ozark acoustic bass at the end?
  3. Chiliwailer

    Sold

Looks like one of mine too that I sold in 2007, in a cafe in Finchley Rd. Was it to I one of you guys?!!! Awesome basses, if only I could justify getting another one... GLWTS
  4. Gorgeous bass, how did the Mrs know to pick such a cool one?
  5. Great to read about what you're all doing. I'm hoping to be able to play with old mates by Aoril as I'm having surgery in January thst coukd make that possible. Due to another condition, I'll never play seriously again but....to play even just once a week with good friends would be bliss. I got a new Lull bass last week, light as a feather, perfect balance and sounding sweet, bring on 2015! Like Blue says, good luck to y'all and happy groovin.
  6.
Can I ask a question to the P bass collective? If I were looking for a precision with a great big chunky, fat sounding resonant neck, would I be looking at the 50's versions mainly? I've reviewed the Fender Cabronita and actually, I liked what that had to offer, though I'd probably change the pickup! I'd love to hear your thoughts and of course, pictures always welcome! I love the look of the Tele headstocks with the reverse kluson tuning keys and maple boards are a big thumbs up too!
Dood, if you're ever in NW London you've got to pop over! I have a CS 55 P Bass, chunky maple neck, superlight ash body and stacked pickup. I have NEVER heard a bigger sounding Fender bass than this one!
  7. Cor, there's some cool looking bang for buck there!
  8. I always put the new foam on top of the old foam, just don't have the heart to tear it off! Plus, some buyers may be anal enough to want to see the old foam.
  9.
Really only did this because it may help somebody else scratch a Rickenbacker itch
Love a bit of show and tell. I never did like an itch after lust though....
  10. Blimey, is Rob even in the same band as them there? Cool that he's jaming up the baseline but it doesn't work when that loose imo and just shows up how rigid the riffs are. Big love for Metallica, my old school teenage bread and butter, so Im certainly not slagging them off. Is he playing a lovely limelight?!!!!
  11. That's looks the absolute dogs nuts. A Ric that's finger friendly, perfect!
  12. Bet that feels lovely, sweet pickguard and binding too. Should all be good with the right pickups and perhaps a restring? If the free lead is that bad, so might be the strings? Poor strings can kill most basses. Have fun with it!
  13.
I'm always pleased to see pics of this one Hope you enjoy it. I was in Bass Direct today, they have a good stock of Lulls. Very lovely they all were too.
Cheers Gary. This bass is on Basschat more than me, perhaps we should give it a profile? I'd been meaning to go to Bass Direct but knew I couldn't afford a new one and would end up with one on the card. Had a very lucky day yesterday though, got a pay rise at work and then sent a few chance emails and got wind of a second hand one. Did you get anything today?
  14. Looks great, very cool bass, I agree with tort and black all the way. Enjoy!
  15.
Looks like a great bass. Put flats on and it'll sound even better. My Lull is one of the nicest basses I've owned.
Yeah, took me all of about 2 mins to put flats on..... Much better indeed.
  16.
I've never really thought about a telebass but looking at some of Peters I can feel some GAS coming on again...
Damn, those look good.
  17. A few of you know, I got a Mike Lull P4 today, as requested below is a picture, though the bass in question has graced this site once or twice, perhaps three times before. It's been bought and sold a few times on the site, that did make me question if I should get it, especially as I wasn't after a sunburst, but knowing the quality of Mike's basses I thought it'd be worth a punt. It was. First off, it's seriously light at only 7.49lbs by my scales. That's exactly what I need due to neurological issues and one reason why I hunted down a Lull as after surgery in January I'll be able to causally play with mates again and I'm lacking a trusty workhorse of a P Bass. The build quality is outstanding, The neck is, without doubt, the nicest 1.75 inch width I have ever owned, and actually I've owned and loved some very nice ones before, this guy can really shape a neck! The tone is gracefully mellow, soft mids and sweet and funky when pushed, better suited to flats than rounds for my taste, but then I'd probably say that about any Fender. Unfortunately it's not in your face punchy, growly or with as much attack as my old CS Precision, but then you have to expect that from such a light bass as they tend to be softer and warmer in tone on a Precision. In all honesty, purely for my taste it's not my favourite tone I've ever got from a Precision, but it is damn good, suits me still and at that weight I can't believe my luck, it's a sure fire keeper. I've been playing it on and off all day when I can and its an absolutely joy to play. I'm over the moon, and that's not the pain killers and whiskey doing that.... To top it off, Mike Lull is a very cool and genuine guy. It says on his website that if you're in town then pop in to the workshop. I did exactly that in September when in Seattle, knocked on the door and recieved a very warm welcome and a friendly chat. He showed me around, let me play his showroom basses, including his own gigging one and also insisted I play an original 1957 P Bass he'd just worked on. Honestly, I couldn't wait to get off that 57 and back onto his. I've played enough of those before and as amazing as they are, his basses were new to me and much more exciting. A top bass form a top man, for me that's the icing on the cake.
  18. Aw, brings back memories. I had .both the active humbuckers version and active jazz pickups version - both were killer little headless wonders. Then my old Stingray came along....
  19.
I sent a cheeky email this afternoon about this bass and discovered its just been sold. The ultimate GAS killer!
Argh! Edit - is this thread a GAS creator?
  20.
The closest I have come to not having GAS was when I bought a Dingwall. I naively thought that was "the one" and that I would never suffer again. How wrong I was. It took me a while to come to that realisation, but I let the Dingwall go and sought out a lighter and shorter five string. In the meantime I've also acquired a few more four strings, one of which came from you Chiliwailer ;-) Always on the lookout for a YOB Jazz, as well as a white Stingray 4H SLO with a maple board. Also on my radar are another Rickenbacker if the right one showed itself and possibly another Status. The main problem is that the Internet makes all this window shopping so easy.
Mate, considering the beautiful and well chosen heard of basses you own, why stop adding to such a cool collection! Now there's a flip side to this discussion!
  21. So it's a NBD for me. The Lull P4 is a sweet instrument, not the best P Bass I've ever owned or played but it's just the tool I was missing. At under 7.5 lbs it is amazingly light, and with my nerve damage issues that's a big deal for me. It doesn't sound as direct as my last CS Precision (which is half sold to a BC'er and around for comparison) , but then basses under 8 lbs never really do have that type of tone and at a still light 8.5lbs it was still too heavy. I'm having surgery soon and wil be able to do some light casual playing with mates, this bass will be perfect for that. I'm only human, there will be basses that turn my head, but I can't see GAS being an issue no more.
  22.
I don't have GAS because I view bass gear as tools to do a job. I do have GAS for gigging. The more gigs the better but stuff is just stuff. When better or more appropriate gear comes along I'll check it out and if it really is an improvement I'll get one, but gear for gear's sake doesn't interest me.
Nice comment. I agree that once you have the right tools the focus should be on using them.
  23.
here's the one http://www.coda-music.com/fender-custom-shop-precision-bass-nocaster-blonde-p-20423.html
Aha, should have guessed,,,, Yup, cracker of a bass. Love my CS 1955 Precision, outstanding quality.
  24.
I've got raging US Spector GAS.
That looks lovely and would sit nicely in your signature list of basses.....
  25.
This is obsessing me at present but the price is WAY beyond my budget http://www.coda-music.com/electric-guitars-c-21.html
Link didn't work for me, took me to all their makes, that's a bit excessive no?!
