    A day trip to the seaside for Glam Fever yesterday. Skeg Vegas…..well Chapel St. Leonards, what a lovely sunny day too. A great club, afternoon gig so an early finish. The wife and hound made the trip also but no dogs allowed in the venue so Megdog got a nice lie on the beach. Not my best performance as compromised by a tooth abscess (don’t get me started on dentists….), but the venue was well chuffed and more bookings for next year hopefully. Also met Dean Andrews of ‘Life on Mars’ and Emmerdale fame while we was there.

    I’ve just sold one of my Lionels leaving me with a Gold Lionel and a Sterling SS Ray as my shorties. Had no luck hunting down a EBMM SS Ray so will be ordering a shortie Sandberg TT or another Lionel in my preferred colour.

    We don't play GK venues due to this. To be honest we generally don't play a venue unless it's cash at the end of the night though we do make exceptions if the booking was via an agent we know (less than 20% of our gigs) in which case we'll take bank transfer. We have had venues look to push their terms but we just agree to disagree and look to part on pleasant terms. Many venues believe they hold all the cards and are quite taken back when the answer is 'thanks but no thanks'.

    Never paid to play but I have given my fee back a few times on gigs where there was a charity involved and there was a payment involved. Being a Yorkshireman I think it's illegal for me to pay to play.......almost a hanging offence, at the very least I'd expect to have my black pudding ration halved.

    I have an interest on a B stock bass on Thomann. Couple of questions; how ‘damaged’ is the B stock and should it not be acceptable how easy is it to return with respect to costs etc?

    Nice fairly local gig for the glam lads last night. Wasn’t expecting much as it was an early start (7:45) and the pub was fairly empty when we went to the change room (read kitchen….that’s why all my stage wear smells of chip fat) however we came on to a full pub of enthusiastic punters. Had a great night and it was a fairly early finish, I was home and feeding the dog bits of my cheese sandwich before 12. First proper gig with the new to me Sterling Stingray shortscale; struggled a bit with the sound (couldn’t get that nice ‘fullness’ for some reason) which I never do with my Sandberg Lionel’s. Still, there’s always room for improvement on the eq.

    A very nice aged Sandberg California Lionel VS4 shortscale. This is an awesome bass that I’ve played on a few gigs and loved so much that I ended up buying a second one. It’s finished in virgin white, with rosewood board and abalone fret markers. It’s a very shoulder friendly 7.5lb and well balanced - no neck dive. Currently strung with new EB shortscale Slinkies. Of the two I have this is the earlier make and while soft aged seems to have more aging than my newer one with some neck glossing and paint shrink lines. Of the 2 this, expectedly feels more played in and comfortable, the only reason this one of the two is up for sale is that I bought it used and can offer it at a more friendly price. Ultimately I’ve determined that I’d like a slightly different flavour for some gigs, on that basis I’d be interested in a U.S. made shortscale stingray or a Sandberg TT4 shortscale with cash adjustment as appropriate. These are the only trades I’d have an interest in. Comes with the decent (better than the new one) Sandberg gig bag in good condition. The bass does have some buckle rash due to some ejit on a jam night (that’ll teach me…), I’ve tried to picture this but nothing is through the paint. As this is a ‘relic’ bass it’s not something that concerned me as it just adds to the patina. If more detailed images are required please DM. I do have a suitable box and can post at buyers risk and cost but generally would prefer a handover so happiness is assured.

    This one is the first gen but one of the later builds without some of the iffy build issues. Have you considered getting a custom pick guard to close the gap?

    Still sounds great. Thought I'd flip this fairly quickly but it does everything my old Stingray fretless did and more for a lot less £££

    Hope I’m right on that one Mickey, can’t remember where I read that.

    I guess. I believe the bodies/necks are produced in the far east and then put together in Germany with German hardware. To be honest, as the price of the Electra has risen I’d be inclined to get a used German bass as they are very reasonable prices second hand.

    Looks similar to my white one - the colour on the hang tag is Virgin white. Nice bass - we must be starting a trend for white Sandbergs and Glam.

    To be honest I thought that the aged finishes avoid the flatting/polishing that a full gloss finish would have. I assumed the reason you can’t get a gloss finish at the moment is because they are temporarily not doing this process? My new soft aged gold Lionel is pretty glossy but less so than the shell pink one I had briefly - but it doesn’t look as if it’s been rubbed with an abrasive to age. The level of finish aging on the body really is minor and hard to spot from a couple of feet.

    To be honest I’ve not seen many non aged gloss around, you can’t order at the moment, it’s aged or satin/matte only. I did have one recently in shell pink that was £1450 new but I had to return it due to a finish flaw on the neck. In general I don’t think the prices are that bad for a premium brand, certainly not when you consider the prices for new EBMM.

    A nice gig at the seaside yesterday, Withernsea to be exact. Very friendly pub/club with very enthusiastic audience. Struggled to get away….it was a late night, especially with the infamous overnight motorway closures. Third gig with the new drummer and he’s definitely settled in well.
