  1. I can only extol the virtues of the Lionel. If you get an alder bodied one (gloss, soft or hard core aged) they all seem to be in the 7.5lb area and really well balanced. I'm a 'petite' guy with some rotator cuff hassle and I hardly know im wearing it even after a couple of 1 hour sets. The ash bodied are about a pound heavier (matte/satin finish, not aged).
  2. Thomann have been great on the return, pick up on Thursday - excellent coms. Dont know how long it will take for the refund though.
  3. Can anyone give me a heads up on which Schaller tuners are drop in replacements on the Sterling Shortie Stingray?
  4. Well I must be one of the unlucky ones….. Received a B stock Sandberg Lionel this morning, soft aged. Whoever returned this decided to rag the hell out of the back of it with a huge belt buckle. I’ve got a gold soft aged so know how these come as stock. So it’s back in the box and going back ASAP.
  5. Total Bargain.
  6. Don't blame you mate, took me a long while to warm up to Sandberg but now that I have I wouldn't be without mine. Got a new one incoming from Thomann....
  7. Sounds like fun mate, think you might need one of these…..
  8. Yup, our guitarist always takes a backup. His old main axe had a habit of losing a string in the first number. He uses an EBMM Petrucci now which seems bomb proof.
  9. Good luck with the new project Dave.
  10. Think the worst I had was turn up to a gig with a strap without locks and the main and back up basses both had schaller pins….. Thank God for gaffa tape.
  11. I think it’s only natural that we rate some gigs higher than others? That doesn’t mean we don’t care about all gigs but personally I do prepare more for the 2K audience festival/rally than the 15 people and a whippet ‘dog and duck’. The later is more laid back and able to accept the odd faux pas. I guess it’s fine that opinions differ.
  12. I could put it on the roof 😂
  13. Your comment is appreciated but mitigation can be accomplished without overloading my poor Mini. Never have let a venue down in hundreds of gigs other than illness which can’t be mitigated against. With one bass, I always take a passive, spare strings and tool kit. I take two cabs, use both, if one went down it wouldn’t be the end of the world. I only take one amp (there is a spare at home which would be used if one had to go in for repair) but take a DI/pre.
  14. Trust you Chris 😂😂
  15. Since joining the current band about 8 years ago I’ve generally taken two basses to a gig, a heir and a spare. I don’t swap around for songs and until recently it was always 2 Mustangs or 2 Sandberg Lionels. I didn’t do this with my previous band but that was due to all gigs being local, with the current band only about a third of the gigs are within 30 mins, the majority being 1-1.5 hours distant. Over the last few weeks due to bass set ups, selling and whatnot I’ve just taken a single bass and it got me thinking, in 8 years I’ve never needed the back up, broke a string etc, so I’m rethinking my practice. For the last few gigs I’ve just taken one bass, a spare set of strings and an emergency bass med kit. Am I living on borrowed time, should I revert back to previous practice or is this practice more usual than not?
  16. A day trip to the seaside for Glam Fever yesterday. Skeg Vegas…..well Chapel St. Leonards, what a lovely sunny day too. A great club, afternoon gig so an early finish. The wife and hound made the trip also but no dogs allowed in the venue so Megdog got a nice lie on the beach. Not my best performance as compromised by a tooth abscess (don’t get me started on dentists….), but the venue was well chuffed and more bookings for next year hopefully. Also met Dean Andrews of ‘Life on Mars’ and Emmerdale fame while we was there.
  17. Think this one used to be mine Kev. Gorgeous bass, one I should’ve kept but it was just too pretty to play the places I gig….
  18. Just picked one up to try out. If I ever think of moving it on I’ll keep you in mind!
  19. I’ve just sold one of my Lionels leaving me with a Gold Lionel and a Sterling SS Ray as my shorties. Had no luck hunting down a EBMM SS Ray so will be ordering a shortie Sandberg TT or another Lionel in my preferred colour.
  20. Sorry Dan, now sold.
  21. We don't play GK venues due to this. To be honest we generally don't play a venue unless it's cash at the end of the night though we do make exceptions if the booking was via an agent we know (less than 20% of our gigs) in which case we'll take bank transfer. We have had venues look to push their terms but we just agree to disagree and look to part on pleasant terms. Many venues believe they hold all the cards and are quite taken back when the answer is 'thanks but no thanks'.
  22. Never paid to play but I have given my fee back a few times on gigs where there was a charity involved and there was a payment involved. Being a Yorkshireman I think it's illegal for me to pay to play.......almost a hanging offence, at the very least I'd expect to have my black pudding ration halved.
  23. I have an interest on a B stock bass on Thomann. Couple of questions; how ‘damaged’ is the B stock and should it not be acceptable how easy is it to return with respect to costs etc?
  24. Nice fairly local gig for the glam lads last night. Wasn’t expecting much as it was an early start (7:45) and the pub was fairly empty when we went to the change room (read kitchen….that’s why all my stage wear smells of chip fat) however we came on to a full pub of enthusiastic punters. Had a great night and it was a fairly early finish, I was home and feeding the dog bits of my cheese sandwich before 12. First proper gig with the new to me Sterling Stingray shortscale; struggled a bit with the sound (couldn’t get that nice ‘fullness’ for some reason) which I never do with my Sandberg Lionel’s. Still, there’s always room for improvement on the eq.
  25. It’s currently on hold pending payment.
