  1. Shot from the wings of Gig at a nice club in the centre of Barton-Upon-Humber last night. This one was an uphill battle, I’m still struggling with a dog inflicted injury (tripped on said dog and fell downstairs landing on a big toe - not broken but it’s not happy) and the singist’s voice was buggered from this persistent viral jobby that’s still doing the rounds. We got through it and the audience was appreciative but it definitely felt like a double shift. Hopefully we’ll all be in better nick next week for a return to a particularly nice club in Dronfield. Rock n roll eh? Only just spotted I’d left my mid spot banana energy booster on top of my minimalist pedal set up.
  2. Please.....not that again.
  3. Love the finishes on those 2 C
  4. This. everyone is different. On a 4 string I find a vintage P 1.75” nut a tad too much but a modern 1.625” fine. I’m comfortable on a 1.5” but if the neck depth is too slim somehow I can’t get comfortable. in terms of ‘speed’ neck finish is important to me, a nice wax/oil finish like on an EBMM I find faster than a gloss neck if hands are sweaty. Lots of variables here with one of the biggest variables being the bassist, one mans meat is another’s tofu. On this basis this topic is bound to be subjective rather than objective and dominated by opinion rather than dimensional facts.
  5. That's a bit nice. Great price for a 'double buck' too. Wish I had the funds to hand. GLWTS
  6. Glad you decided that way Ade, you'd have had my bank balance seriously twitching!
  7. Mr McCombe knows all about this aspect of 'the job' 😁
  8. Rare Sunday afternoon gig yesterday marked a return to gigging for us lot after a 4 week lay off. City centre pub in Huddersfield, hideous to get to (all the sat navs were defeated with aplomb) and the loading bay was a 20 minute only stay so had to go hunting for near non-existent parking. Once set up the clientele consisted of an old man (with flat cap) and a whippet so the auspices were not good. Nevermind, professional as ever we ventured into the changing room (read - unused kitchen) and got into character. 15 minutes later we emerged into a packed house full of eager punters. 2 great sets ensued. Just goes to show you can never tell.....
  9. Great basses these; I've had a fair few Mustangs and this is the cream of the crop (aside from a pucker '66 Mustang I guess). Use mine for the local Jam nights, never fails to give me a good sound in the mix even with 'iffy' backline. GLWTS
  10. First one of the new year and the last one this month as we take a little medical/rejuvenative break until February. A mid sized pub, The Royal, just outside the centre of Huddersfield; the place had been done out since the last time we played mid 2022 and what a great job they’d done. The place now houses a great stage area as they’ve knocked a few of the small rooms together and it’s made a massive difference. Surprisingly, given the time of year, the place was packed and we had an appreciative clientele from the off. Ended up doing 2 encores which made it a long night but well enjoyable. One odd thing was a couple of slightly worse for wear ladies coming up to me mid set saying I was miming the bass....I took it as a compliment that I sounded as good as a backing track.
  11. That surprises me on the Steinies, I thought the original basses were made primarily of Bakelite, a thermoset PF resin. This is very resistant to heat until it decomposes about 500C and shouldn’t deform dimensionally until decomposition. Worked a lot in the day on PF resins for refractory applications....
  12. Cheers guys, much appreciated
  13. Thanks Dave, just the ongoing checks for my cancer treatment, hopefully I’m still in good shape.
  14. Nice sound overall and great bass tone Daryl
  15. Well the NYE gig was a bit of a surprise. Usually it can be a ‘Larry letdown’ but on this occasion it was pretty good with the crowd in good sorts and lots of dancers in both sets. It was a ticket do but there was just over 100 present and the vast majority stayed until the new year. Just one gig in January for me (on the 7th) then a bit of a break while I have biopsies and what not.
  16. It will mate, guarantee it!
  17. Great basses, now that I’ve put a set of rounds on mine it’s pretty much my go to bass.
  18. 17:00 for me, gonna be a lot of sitting around and twiddling thumbs I suspect 😂

    2022

For the first time in forever 0 in and 0 out
  20. I’d agree with this, my old Status Streamline was a pretty solid thing at 7lbs which was quite a bit when you consider the diminutive size. The Alder/carbon wrap CW S2 comes in at about 8lb10oz so pro-rata about the same as full carbon.
  21. Status are no longer taking commissions so a new one is out. I’ve seen 6 string Stealths come up occasionally which would fit your bill, perhaps reaching out on the Wanted forum would be worth a punt?
  22. To be honest, the 3 basses i gig are also the cheapest I have. The number 1, a Mikey Way sig Mustang was a budget bass.
  23. The most I’ve spent on a new bass is just shy of £3600, I’d come into a little money and decided it was my last chance to acquire the Status bass I’d been lusting after. Going forward, on gigging basses, I’ll top out around the £1500 mark.
  24. Ticket job at a fairly local venue for us. Not done this one before so hopefully it’ll be ok. I always find NYE difficult to call as a gig, especially in recent years where I think the tendency to stay in has risen somewhat.
  25. This thread must be close to the record in terms of how off-piste it has travelled....
