So, add another 18 months, and I've finally changed my strings ;-) I've put a set of GHS Crossovers on. So far all I can report is that they are very bright and twangy at first, they need some time to settle before I can comment on tone. Also they shredded my fingers on last weekends gig, my fault for changing strings so close to a gig, without time to give them a coat of sweat and dirt ;-)

I'd agree with everything already offered here. I've had this issue a lot. The OP doesn't mention style of music, or size of venue, so excuse me if this suggestion doesn't fit your needs. I've worked a lot with our engineer, and we've reduced the volume of the subs, and lowered the HPF for the 'tops', which has helped a lot for me. I also try to avoid having the subs on the stage, if you can. Or have them as far forward as you can manage. Festivals are the worst places for this issue IMHO. As a sweeping generalisation, they all seem to have the PA set up for ear blistering dance music, even if it's a folk festival, with the subs very close to, or on/under, the stage. Then they set a bassy kick sound twice a loud as it needs to be. For these events I mostly play from memory ;-)

I don't use the end pin stand, but have had problems with the tripod stand. It's not great quality IMHO. I drilled a hole through the main tube, and use an allen key through it to make sure the bass doesn't slowly head towards the floor on gigs!

I would expect it to be Francis Hylton on bass, he's been with them for a while now.

Thought that might be the case with the Traditionals, might have to stick them up for sale to fund some crossovers!

Had my NXT for 4 years, and I haven't changed the strings yet. I did get a friend to bring over some D'Addario traditionals from the US a while back (much cheaper there at the time), as the factory strings didn't sound "upright" enough to me, but I bought a Phil Jones C4 cab, and they do now !! The GHS strings do look interesting, would love to hear some real world experience from someone who's used them.

It was Jahmal Nichols, he's a doubler who has an endorsement deal with TC Electronic. He used a TC Blacksmith head last year at Glasto, and (I think) an RH750 and some RS series cabs this year ? Don't see many upright players using TC, so maybe his choice is swayed by his slab playing? Looks to me like he has a David Gage pickup, but I'm guessing based on pictures. No idea what he uses between pickup and amp I'm afraid.

Love my NXT, yes it's not a real DB, but I'll put up with that to be able to load it on the passenger seat ;-) I use a Raven labs PHA-1 preamp in front of whatever amp I use, and the 3( or4?) MegOhm input impedance improves the tone, reducing the "clack". I can use the gain to push the input up a little, but the output level of the NXT is on a par with my passive basses. Maybe keep a lookout for second hand preamps, then google the input impedance. OR get someone to make you an FDeck preamp ? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/232358-fdeck-clone-made-in-uk/
