  1. That's fair enough, and I agree, the tracking seemed good and it didn't sound bad. For me though, I'd like a bit more control over the tone of the octave. A modeller of this power I would've expected to have either a couple of different octave pedal models, or more control over the stock octave sound.
  2. Pretty impressed with that. Everything except the octave sounded pretty good I thought!
  3. The locking jack is TRS, but I just used standard unbalanced guitar cable and only soldered the Tip and Sleeve connections.
  4. The cables are taped together, and then fed through the hairband and a small leather strap to keep them attached to the guitar strap. I’ve been looking for a better way to do it, but in the meantime this has been working fine!
  5. I made myself some patch cables like you have suggested here, with a slight change. Right angled jack at the guitar end into a straight jack for the Backbeat, and the other cable is a straight jack to a locking female jack that my normal guitar cable plugs into. I also have a lovely pink hair band that I feed the cables through to keep them attached to the strap! 😂

Easily one of the best things I've bought. 99% of all my gigs (pre-Covid of course!) are amp-less so this really helps me FEEL what I'm playing with IEMs. I know of a few people that didn't get on with it, but for me it's excellent! One thing to be careful of is some frequencies will cause the whole strap to resonate if you have it turned up too much, which will do the same thing to your bass and give you an infinite sustain effect. This is what made me realise I was running it too high, as I just love how it feels! I generally have it about 1/4 to 1/3 up now, and that's enough unless I'm wearing something super thick like a jacket or shirt & waistcoat.

Besides the crack that was repaired, the fingerboard is in excellent condition, and so is the body, save for a couple of bumps as documented in the first post. I'd definitely consider shipping it, just might take a while to source something that I would feel comfortable handing it over to the courier in! A local(ish) sale would definitely be preferred though.

  10. Yep all recorded our parts separately. As far as I remember, the drummer did his take to a click track and we all played to his recorded part. To be honest this was recorded in April/May and we’ve done a fair few more videos since then so it’s all blurring into one! Here’s Pamela:

  14. What an excellent post @Bilbo. Having been transcribing for a few years myself, I absolutely concur with a lot of what you have written here. Especially the part about slowing tracks down to try and hear the individual note and it still not being clear! I wouldn't like to know the amount of time I've spent replaying a fraction of a second over and over, before I finally write it as a ghost note out of exasperation! 😂 Also what you say about players "dropping in" and not recording everything in one take is spot on. I think we can all be pretty hard on ourselves when we don't nail a song all the way through, but what a lot of players should know is that most songs of the last 50 years would probably have been recorded in sections, over multiple takes, and then the best takes of each section composited together. Not to say that you shouldn't strive to nail everything in one take, as that is the aim of the game (for me), but the key is not to be too hard on yourself when it doesn't happen. Everyone makes mistakes! Another interesting thing to note is tone and timing. I've been very surprised and underwhelmed by a lot of the "isolated bass" tracks you can find floating about on YouTube. Some of the bass tones sound awful in isolation, but in the mix they are absolutely awesome, and the same goes for timing. Something that sounds pretty ropey on its own can, once in the mix with the other instruments, appear to be near perfect! Again, great post, and thanks for sharing your work and wisdom with the other members here.

  16. Up for sale is a Dr Scientist Dusk. It's a really cool envelope filter, auto wah, and cutoff filter pedal with tons of sounds and modes. Expression pedal control, tap tempo, MIDI, as well as 4 presets that can be saved to the pedal itself. All in all, one of the most versatile and controllable filters I've come across. Its in absolutely MINT condition and has the box/manual/trinkets and accessories (stickers and picks) that came with it when new.
