  1. Well upcoming potential IR35 changes permitting I hope to continue to order a bass each year. Went for a Fodera Standard Classic this year as a more aesthetically neutral option along aide my Wals. Im erring towards a Ken Smith Black Tiger Six next year (although I understand these are now made by Brubaker). Trouble is the Wals are the yard stick against which i judge everything else, so I’m always inclined to go for another Wal instead... Especially as Paul is such a genuinely nice guy (and Ken Smith isn’t by all accounts).
  2. Look at that 😮 I had a couple of recent builds (2015 and 2017) and the necks are very shallow profile... very comfortable Choosing facings is really difficult... I kinda wish id just been told what it was going to be. Offering me a selection lead to weeks of agonising over slight differences in detail. I have a tiny bit of Birdseye on my Maple fretless but it’s mostly quilt... the one you’ve gone for is gorgeous 😍
  3. Jesus... All ramps look awful but that’s particularly bad. As above I’d get those monstrosities off and see what the damage was underneath before even considering how much the other modifications have reduced the value of this bass... 😕
  4. What you going for with the new Wal? Been toying with the idea of another build myself... Was a 30 month wait when I looked on the website last 😕
  5. This... I use WeTransfer almost every day at work. It’s not let me down yet. It’s also a good barometer of how “desperately important” something is, when the recipient then asks me to resend it a week later when the link has expired... 😐
  6. Been looking at these today... again... If it genuinely is loud enough (and several posts seem to imply that it is) I can’t not use it really... My entire setup is portability focused given I travel to all gigs and rehearsals on public transport... One less thing to carry. Reckon i could ditch the trolly, bass on my back and a One10 in each hand 👍
  7. I’m a lost cause... I already have raging GAS for next year’s bass purchase... 😕 Currently can’t decide between a Ken Smith Black Tiger 6 or a Marleaux Contra 6 🤔
  8. Young and up and coming bunch aren’t we... 😕
  9. Surely insurance is there to cover when your gear might get stolen? I don’t need cover for when it’s safely locked away 😕 Im not suggesting Insurance should cover me placing my Fodera outside the venue with a “please steal me” sign on it, but I will need it to be covered for situations that occur during the course of a normal gig
  10. I think the question is would a bass / amp etc be covered if it was left in an unlocked back stage room. All multiband originals nights in London (and I imagine elsewhere) have an unsecured area (generally little more than a broom cupboard) in which bands have to leave gear whilst the other bands are on stage. Being unlocked and unmonitored this is by far the most likely place gear will be stolen from so cover for this situation is critical.
  11. Will someone buy this so I don’t keep seeing it and reminding myself of the £1k I could have saved if I’d waited a fortnight... 😡
  12. I originally read this as “Back in the early 20s” We’ve met and you didn’t look like you’d already received a card from the queen... 🤔
  13. Thanks for getting back to me. My comments echo MS above. Essentially I need my instruments to be insured when they are vulnerable to theft / damage. Not when they are safely locked away.
  14. Well this is promising... I guess the questions are pretty much what other insurers won’t cover a bass for. Of course what’s ‘covered’ doesn’t really count for a lot so my questions would be have you ever paid out a claim for any of the following. A bass stolen from a back stage room whilst the owner was elsewhere in the venue? A bass stolen from an unattended vehicle? A bass stolen from the venue when the owner was using it “for professional use” having received a few beer tokens for the gig? A bass stolen or damaged on public transport? I’ll probably think of a few more than that, but it would be good to know if you’ve ever paid out a claim for any of the above 😊 Additionally I’m assuming basses in the home would be covered for theft and damage as per a usual contents insurance policy, along with full cover when outside the home?
  15. At the risk of turning this into a pervy old man thread I’m more of a Oti fan myself...
  16. We should go out together and bond over it 😐
  17. I don’t really like other people so try to avoid socialising wherever possible. 😐
  18. I also play originals and we don’t get people on stage either, but to be honest that’s mostly because there are often more people in the band than the audience... 😐
  19. There is zero chance of anyone having a go on my bass... They inevitably think it’s a guitar and will inevitably attempt to play wonderwall on it... 😐
  20. He’s a great player... I like strictly anyway, but some funky bass always makes anything better 😊 ... can’t agree with you on the hat being cool though 😕
  21. In the interests of not derailing this one we should probably have a separate 2020 gear wish list thread 🤔
  22. I’m not even going to pretend I won’t buy anything... 😐
  23. I’ve been there too... When going through the pre-meeting smalltalk ritual at work—in which we all pretend to be interested in each other’s lives—I’ve stopped telling people I play in bands. The follow up question is inevitably “So what are you called”... 😕
  24. Every band I have been in over the years has had a rubbish name... In a way I’m thankful nothing ever came of them and I became know as a member of band with a really naff name... I tend to join other people’s bands / projects these days (kinda works being a bass player), so I don’t have any involvement with band names. This is a good thing as when we were younger (and I did have a say), I was able to contribute to the discussion seriously for approximately 1 minute before suggesting things like “Woolly and the Mammoths” .... 😐
