  1. I’m with you. I think they are wonderful instruments 🙂 I hope it gives you a lifetime of service to make up for the wait!
  2. Look at that 😍 Bet it sounds the business too 🙂 I was surprised at how thin from to back the necks on my recent build Wals were, but as you say they are very comfortable. Bet the balance is spot on as well? End of a loooooong wait which will be completely forgotten by next week 🙂
  3. Could always buy something you like and get it defretted?
  4. I was discussing this with Mrs C yesterday when I was butchering various popular classics on my fretless to pass the afternoon... There really can’t be much of a market for fretless basses? Especially at the bottom end? 🤔
  5. Anyway this is a Smith thread and that new one is a belter 😍
  6. Gotta put Wal in there as well for me. Stingray is close for my money but I reckon there is an appreciable enough difference to warrant a separate spot for Wal 😊
  7. I used to use different strings for each bass but these days I just use Newtone Diamonds (Round Core Nickel Plated) on everything...
  8. BC doesn’t strike me as the best choice to try and sell something for more than it’s worth... Everyone here is pretty knowledgeable about bass gear and how much it costs. A fair number of us spend a large part of the day looking at bass gear on the internet when we should be doing something else 😕
  9. Covered by other comments above really but Markbass and Trace are at opposite ends of the spectrum really... If the suggestions above don’t work out and you do end up going for some different gear try some of the light weight GK or Glockenklang gear. 👍
  10. All the cool instruments were taken when we formed our first band at 13 so I ended up on the bass. Very glad I did though. I love the role of the bass and even though the music I play has changed over the years I still approach it the same way. I haven’t heard of most of the players often sited as inspiration here on BC or the bands they play in. Always preferred to approach music my own way, that’s where the fun lies for me. In all honesty I’ve very little interest in anyone else’s playing 😕
  11. Yeah thanks for that... got lockdown GAS for a matched Fender P & J pair now... 😡
  12. No to all except 20) 👍 *edit - actually 17 as well. Most of the guitarists I have played with have been stand up guys 😊
  13. I got a Squier P bass for my 13th birthday my parents bought from some bloke in the Diamond FreeAds... It was f***ing s**t... 😐
  14. I suspect this is why I have also always paid in euros then... last order was 2019.
  15. I bought a bass from Thomann last year and was charged in euros. You’ll get whatever exchange rate your card provider gives you - not whatever Thomann say on the site
  16. Mine holds 4 and I currently only have 3... 😬
  17. Welcome to Basschat. My prediction is you’ll own 10 basses by the end of the year and respond to every future post with “it’s all in the fingers” 👍
  18. I must be doing something wrong... maybe I’ll drop a bass off at proper tech for a set up and see if they can get it any lower without clank or buzz for my playing style.
  19. Just checked my fretless... roughly a £1 at the 10th so the same as my fretted.
  20. That’s astonishing... I’d have to see it in action to believe it 😆
  21. I’ve just put a £1 under the E string at the 10th and that’s about where mine is too. The coin fits under but only just and not without touching the string. I find it astonishing that anyone can have the strings a 1/3 of that distance to the fretboard?
