  1. Ah, just found this: What are you using to get the deep tone on “Carnavoyuer”? The song had no groove when I first got it. Josh had this vocal idea and I was like, Man, that's a beautiful song, we've got to do it. My tone came from two pedals, which are the Way Huge Conquistador before a MXR Bass Envelope Filter. I had that set up at home and I was messing around with it, and it's so cool. There's something about the pedals in that order that worked well. And it was the Yamaha bass along with those pedals getting that sound. https://bassmagazine.com/artists/michael-shuman-king-of-queens
  2. Shuman has one of the gnarliest rock tones ever played on a Jazz bass imo. Plus QOTSA... hell of a live band. But I mainly wanted to alert BC to the *mighty* bass tone Shuman gets with a Mustang on this new track. (Excuse me while I talk myself out of buying a short scale.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmxajSyMdeE&t=3117s
  3. Serek is on my list of dream basses. Unfortunately, it's not doable for me at the moment, but GLWTS.
  4. Ibanez SR370EF is 19mm at the bridge and nut width is 38mm, i.e. Fender Jazz spacings.
  5. Thanks for the replies. Couple of things: 1) Was mainly looking for anything non-Fender style. Understandable that there are fewer fretless options generally, but it's disappointing to me that that also extends to the look. 2) Unwilling to go the defretting route, as that ruined a Fender Jazz of mine. I have, thanks to this, discovered the Ibanez SR370EF (not sure how I missed it with a catchy name like that), which looks promising.
  6. Squier and a bunch of Fender knockoffs (from Sire/Marcus Miller to Harley Benton), those appear to be the only option for a new sub-£500 fretless bass at the moment. Have those companies cornered the market to the extent that the likes of Ibanez, Yamaha, et al don't bother?
  7. Bought a USA Fender P from Graham last week. Communication was reassuringly frequent at every stage of the transaction and I'm chuffed with the instrument. Couldn't be happier with my first purchase through this site. A+
