I guess a car is something that most people have to purchase at some time in their life, and whether you like cars or not, it's a purchase that you can't make without at least a little research. If I'm talking to someone about a non essential purchase of something idiosyncratic such as a carbon necked bass, the other person may have no direct comparison except for buying a car, unless they drive a Juke at which point you might as well be talking to a medical skeleton. Personally I've been quite amazed at the number of adults I've met who have zero hobbies or interests, so analogies come in handy as a useful common ground at least to some degree.

My 66 has a hootenanny strap button but it’s missing so now there’s just a hole. Anyone know where to get one, I think they’re a bit different to a regular strap button and the screw must be different too?

I was just idly looking at Mustangs thinking about a backup for my Thunderstangbacker. One thing that puts me off is how the reissues have more body behind the bridge. Looks fine itself but it’ll annoy me that it’s different. But did you know the Fender Japan ‘Hybrid’ Mustang has the same dimensions as the original. Looks like they only come with P/J setup but that sounds great IME. Just in case anyone’s interested. Here’s a pic of one they do in natural.

Yeah that was a slight flaw with the old one. The new one is a lot lighter and less like a medieval flail. Also in/out is handled by a single cable which is a lot neater.

Yeah I used to read reviews on Harmony Central. You're right, going back and reading old posts is pretty cringeworthy. I was super thirsty back in the 2010s

Bassworld (2002-2007), then Basstalk (2007), then Basschat (2007-current). Bassworld was originally started by a chap named Gerard and I came to help him run it in 2004ish. It started to fall apart as Gerard disappeared for a long time (he had a good reason which I only found out about recently) so we needed to jump ship. Kiwi (a long term member of BW) said he'd help so we took the database and started Basstalk. Basstalk had to be shut down and we started from scratch with Basschat with an empty database. We wanted to make a clean break as Gerard wasn't happy with the fact we took the database and then the FBI shut it down because it was on a managed server in the US which was taken offline without any information. It also let us explore using different software, which had it's main major upgrade to the system we use now with the marketplace etc in about 2017 I think. I think that's roughly it, anyway. Tbh when we did Bassworld I don't think there was a dedicated UK based bass guitar form. I remember using some 'UK bassist' threads on Talkbass (who banned me for suggesting we start a UK forum, but later unbanned me). Guitar forums may have had bass guitar sub sections, but honestly as the costs were basically zero I don't think we really checked.

Theirs, it’s the one it comes with. You’d probably have to use a small extension for it to work. Suits me like this but it certainly won’t suit everyone. However you can instead run a cable of your own into the ‘in’ and there’s a 1/4” ‘out’ on the unit which you can use like the old version if you don’t want to/can’t split the signal at the jack which is quite a neat way to do it imo, it avoids having two cables running up to the unit.

Here you go @obbm As you can see I’ve attached a loose loop for the cable to go through near the bottom strap pin like I used to with my previous arrangement. It has to be fairly open to allow the plug to come through if I want to use the unit on another strap (but can’t until I get a second attachment plate (which isn’t economical to have sent from the USA - I’ll see if anyone else wants to arrange a group buy). The cable is quite thin, but as I understand the signal only goes up that to the unit; the actual signal of the instrument goes out of the two way plug. It’s a bit long (I can’t imagine anyone needing it to be that long) so a shorter custom job would be interesting to pursue or I could have this one shortened once I’m set with where the pack sits. The plug itself might pose problems on basses with recessed jacks. It works well with my two but the cable that you plug into it really clicks in quite tight so removing it by pulling might put some strain on a jack. I instead remove the plug before taking the lead out. At the unit end the fit is really neat - again, at the moment it’s quite hard to take the cable out but I shouldn’t really need to do that. USB charging is fast and easy, it’s also nice having the battery level. I’m looking forward to the app for adjusting the rumble. It seems like there’s a slight roll off of the higher end at the moment, perhaps less even than the G1, but that will allegedly be adjustable. It’s much lighter and less fiddly than the G1. I haven’t used the headphone and aux function yet as I don’t need it but will give it a whirl - apparently it’s not very loud and a bit noisy.

Another alternative is a DOD FX25 with the sensitivity down so the filter barely opens. Super subby

Just got the G2. It’s fantastic - nice form, tighter rumble, zero feedback which made the G1 a problem at higher settings and nice upgrades for usbc charging and simple cable arrangement. Impressed!

Didn’t they change the bridge saddle alignment due to flea’s feedback? Hence some bridges with a straighter string run being called the ‘flea bridge’ - so it sounds like EB listened to player feedback even if it didn’t result in an sig bass.

I know what you mean. Thankfully the controls are all quite intuitive. The pedal has to be first in the chain for the impedance switch to make any difference, I think - and it will affect pedals after it (you can use full clean blend). They also do a loop pedal with the switch for the same purpose. The phase switch is my fave part, it really helps thicken some of the sounds

Really enjoying it. It covers lots of sounds. I’ve A/B tested with other drives I really like and it gets really close to them all, and where it’s a bit different I prefer the Valco. It responds better to a passive bass I think, and the blend control has most of the action in a small portion of the travel (or sounds like that to me) but like you say the impedance switch makes everything else change, so it adjusts where and how the clipping happens. I suppose the only issue is that there are too many options so if I didnt have my ‘reference’ pedals to compare to I’d probably feel a bit lost!!!

Yeah I recognise the wear pattern above the scratchplate I think (how sad is that). No reason to think it’s dodgy though, it looks great!
