I agree to an extent - it certainly doesn’t do a super modern zingy slap sound, but that’s not to say it isn’t massively versatile.

IMO it’s rare to find a bass that’s perfect for recording AND live use. I’d nothing else it’s a good excuse to have two ‘number one’ basses in your stable.

Never tried an L2000 or any of the similar humbucker type models (I’m a bit unsure about the model numbers and types) but all I know is that after trying and having different P basses, nothing can touch this early SB1 - I don’t know how much they were new but like said above it’s fantastic build quality, the three bolt neck is great and the electronics and hardware really make it a sensible upgrade over the Fender Precision which is what I suppose it was intended to be. It’s basically the same but just a little more refined and it feels lovely. I do agree that the new headstock shame is a little jarring and I think it’s right that they are quite rare basses considering - even in the US they aren’t that common but sought out by those ‘in the know’, so there are some bargains for sure. The best type of bargain - because you’re not paying for hype!

Good ramble, well said and I agree with everything you put.

Freudian slip!! I never feel like selling up. Certainly not because of lack of gigs or band. I haven’t played in a gigging band for years but don’t miss that. I don’t often do studio playing but still do sometimes. In between my basses give me immense pleasure for playing along with music at home, looking after, setting up and generally fiddling with.

Probably best to ask them directly

I’ve never kept a bass which relied on the pre for its sound so if a batt dies I’m more than happy to switch to passive - in fact all my current actives sound the same in passive (with everything centred) so I’d only use the active EQ to adjust on-the-fly but could easily do without.

Quite - I'll push for more detail.

@PJ-Bassist here's the reply from Eurosender - it looks like a hard case is not required (but advised):

Here you go. The forum isn’t visible until you make at least one post; we did that to stop this one idiot from spamming people all the time (it worked!) Cheers

Quite possibly, but unfortunately I am, by definition, a bit crap at them

Awesome bass. If I ever have a J style bass again I think it’ll be a GB Spitfire. I’ve come so close to owning one several times but haven’t quite found one yet - most seem to be five string. Enjoy it!!

Yeah I’ll get to writing my memoirs soon. The film rights are available if anyone wants to bid. I’ll be played by Adrian Brody (similar sized nose)
-
Yes I remember you telling me, and others have had similar experiences. You don’t happen to know the owners contact details?
-
I started the site in about 2002 as Bassworld and since then it’s evolved and changed lots of times and had different names along the way! I’ll write a full history of the site at some point for the history books! It’s quite a story actually for a few reasons, up to and including an FBI takedown!
-
I’ve asked my contact there to double check. If so they might need to change their T&Cs so I assume it’s ok without a case if you’re willing to risk it. I’ll let you know what he says 👍🏼

Eurosender!!

You’d be awesome on a winch though

Yeah maybe. I’m looking forward to a reply to my email, assuming their ‘recruitment’ people are able to use non-template emails!
-
At least then you’d get a letter of rejection rather then them saying they didn’t even look!! Blows my mind, that does!!

Reminds me of that weird guy who was playing a four necked bass at the LBGS last year. He was going round every booth and playing it at max volume, not sure what he was trying to achieve. He nearly scalped me when I said I thought it was a Warwick, I told him to calm down. Odd.

It's crazy - the policy should be that they don't waste people's time. FWIW the jobs I applied for can't possibly have been internal candidates as they were entry level, but maybe they wanted to pay a sixth former sod all instead as the salary isn't disclosed.

Hi guys Twice now I’ve applied for a job at Gear4music despite being told by others that they’re awful to work for. Each time I’ve taken a long time to prepare a really good cover letter and thought carefully about what I could bring to the roles which I know I’m well qualified for in experience. Both times now I’ve had the exact same email: Dear Chris, Thank you for applying for our (insert job here) vacancy. We have recently filled this position and unfortunately did not get a chance to fully consider your application. We would however like to thank you for your interest in this role and wish you the best of luck with your job search. (my emphasis) ...ok, so what does that mean? You didn’t read my application? The job was filled before you received it? The job was left as vacant even though it was filled? You gave it to the first person that applied? You looked at my application at 4:50 but wanted to get home for the end of The Chase? You think I sound useless? (Just say so!) The email is clearly copied and pasted to everyone because as I say I’ve had the same email twice for two separate jobs which were about six months apart. Just venting I suppose. It’s given me a glimpse into working for them and already I can tell that they’d be a pain in the arse. I’ve probably dodged a bullet and should be thanking them, but I couldn’t resist emailing them back this time to ask exactly WTF their email actually means.
