Alright folks You know that I like gadgets, and some of you know that I bought a mini bass a few years ago and filled it with bells and whistles. For playing synths or noodling away with caked in reverb and delay this little thing absolutely rocks. Kick in an octave pedal and some distortion and it's the heaviest fattest sounding piece of wood on the planet. Mine is made by Wingbass (made by Stanbaugh). I know there are other owners here too. I'm tempted to get a fretless version and I've been looking around at other manufacturers who make basses like this, and was wondering if I had missed anyone. A few years ago I don't think they exited at all, but it seems like lots of companies are doing them now, at least to use up offcuts of wood!! So far I have found: Mayones https://mayones.com/basses/cali4/ I quite like the look of these but Mayones never answer emails so that's put me off a bit. Also not sure if they do fretless and don't REALLY want to go custom, I'd rather buy one already made! Stradi http://stradi.pl/ Came to my attention after one sold on here. Very ornate, some look amazingly well crafted but I rather like the simpler designs. Trouble is unless you go half scale you need custom strings - half scale you just chop your usual ones in half! BTW if you think these basses are JUST for TRAVEL and PLAYING THROUGH AN OCTAVE PEDAL then they are not at all - they are inspiring, fun and like playing a proper bass. they are NOT GUITARS! It’s a chicken and egg situation. People are unlikely to put their hand in with no idea about the spec, and if you decide on a spec first then people will say ‘yes but what if’ The only way forward would be for you to put together some mock-up designs, vote for the fave and see if enough will back it.

Cheers it’s great fun. I’ve looked at the SY1000 and I’m not clear on what it offers that the VB99 doesn’t - I prefer the form factor of the VB99 though. Mainly I use it as a lovely clean preamp, audio interface and bass management centre (tm)

Can I be a party pooper and say that every bass is a sum of it's parts and although I have some that had elements that I wouldn't normally choose, together as an instrument they sounded amazing and vice versa - I'm sure if I took everything I like about basses I have had so far and put them into one bass it wouldn't be any good! I think about this sometimes, to a degree. What I have found is my definite ‘one’ bass which I won’t ever sell but I often amass several other instruments and suddenly have the urge to sell them all. Done it several times now and just kept the one. It’s quite liberating and fun at the same time to experiment with stuff and not have to worry that you’re chasing your tail. Ive also found that it pays to keep a P bass in stock because it’s a great leveller and a useful benchmark. Sometimes quite refreshing to go back to my battered P with flats. I’ve never been ‘attached’ to amps in the same way and could happily sell or use a house rig if it means I don’t need to bring one.

It’s terrible. Distorts even with a passive bass on clean mode with gain in zero. Feels nicely made and so on but although there’s very little noise, as soon as you play a note it farts slightly and gets worse down the neck. I never send anything back but I think I might this time!

Pinned posts get ignored and aren't maintained so I don't think so - probably best to keep your own channel thread or signature updated and get people to follow it in YT.

OK folks we have 107 confirmed buyers with at least one set each. I have placed the order with the supplier who will put them into production very soon and let me know an approx timescale. Once they land I'll email everyone on the pre-sale list with payment instructions. When those orders are shipped the locks will go on general sale (price tbc) and I will update that here. Fretless too.. hmm. Wonder what it would sound like into my Roland Venus Bass

No difference apparently - this one is designed for anything with a 1/4" plug, and I'mm mostly use it with my WIngbass anyway. I just want to try it as it would be ideal to have something so small, and I really like having reverb on tap too. Hopefully the signal to noise ratio is better... and I guess the more people that try it the more likely it'll be that the product gets better and better. I'd love a really well made super hifi version by someone like PJB or Roland!

I just found it hugely noisy. I ripped the guts out of it on purpose.
