1.
Allways wanted one but never in the right place at the right time. I read somewhere Mark King Bought his first JD because a wal was out of his price range at the time BTW. he has one now. lovely Bit of kit....anyone who wants to trade a wal for a 2003 stingray?
Actually it's because an Alembic was out of his price range. I believe he tried a Wal and wasn't keen.
 2. That would have been soooo awesome in my old cosmic funk band! In fact if I'd had the money I'd have resurrected the band just to buy the bass.....best of luck with the sale. Wish I was getting it! Oh, and that case is just mega! Mmmm, purple.....
 3. Ziggy, it looks cool. Stag, that makes two of us! Hopefully some more news today or tomorrow.
 4.
Thanks! I would be interested in playing a full scale Alembic as I do find it a bit strange moving from one of my Fenders to the Spoiler's 32" scale. If I play it on its own its fine, mind. Out of interest, which long-sclae Alembics have similarly simple tone arrangements to a Spoiler ?I ask as CrazyKiwi and others have mentioned that the really 'high end' Alembics have some kind of isolating block under the bridge and hi-fi electronics which mean the bass can sound - for want of a better word - a bit clinical (I want a straight ahead rock sound!)
Entwistle didn't sound at all clinical using his Series basses, and I can't say my Triple O (which had signature electronics) sounded clinical either. They incredibly versatile. Pete Agnew of Nazareth swears by them too.
 5. I haven't got it yet, so I'm being cagey. Let's just say it's a pretty rare Rick 4001. And it's very early 70s. And it's not a Blackstar or Tuxedo or Redneck or anything like that. I just hope that now the Azure is going it doesn't fall through! Of course if it does I guess I'll have enough for another custom build so it won't be all bad...
 6.
My ld one is at the Gallery right now - it's a beauty: http://www.thebassgallery.com/product_deta...e=Bass%20Guitar Very early build and hsa a few features not found in the newer ones - not least the lovely purfling around the finger board (hard to see in these pics).
Played that the other day; sounds awesome. BTW, that buckeye Sei a page or 2 back is unreal!
 7. Ziggy, you're not wrong. Nice bass BTW, what is it? To all interested parties, my Azure Rick is sold pending receipt of funds and will pay for my (hopefully) new acquisition outright. In view of this the Sei is now withdrawn from sale. Many thanks for the interest to all concerned and apologies for any disappointment; this wasn't quite how I planned it originally but will actually make more sense in the long run. If anything changes (now unlikely) I'll let you know.
 8. Ziggy, I wish I loved the suspense. It's killing me!
 9. Things may have taken an unexpected turn so don't anybody do anything rash yet. Looks like I may have sold my Azure '73 Rick in which case I'll be hanging onto the Sei (which would be lucky as I've just found out I have 2 upcoming projects for which I need a 5). I'll keep you posted.
 10. Update: Looks like things may be all go with my bass of interest. Just a couple of things still to confirm; the good news for all concerned is I may have been given another week at least due to the seller's work commitments. As soon as things are definite either way I'll let all interested parties know. This could however still go pear-shaped so I don't want to get people's hopes up too soon.
 11.
Good luck with the sale shaun,i am still loving the sei 4.......all the best John
Cheers John, and glad to hear it. To all those who've shown interest, thanks and apologies for the delay (all have been PMd), but (1) I've been away in London (the RATM gig was mental!) and (2) everything has gone quiet with regards to the bass I'm interested in. I sent a few messages to the seller before I went to London on Saturday, but as yet have had no response. Until I'm sure that it's still available the Sei is going on hold; I'll keep you all posted. BTW MoonBassAlpha - good call.
 12.
Has to be Alembic
Nope. Thanks for the comment though!
 13.
PLEASE don't say you're selling that bass to buy a bloody vintage Fender........
I'll have less of the F word round here thanks. Nah.....it is vintage though.
 14.
Its a Gibson EB-1....
"Oh no it isn't..." Lozbass, it's actually my favourite of the 4 Seis I've owned (which is saying something) and yep, it's rather nice! Ziggy, I'm near Blackpool.
 15. No, but it may as well be so far as I'm concerned!
 16.
Blimey Shaun this other bass must be magnificent if you're thinking of selling your Sei. I'm curious to what it might be.
Rich, have a guess....and then make it a really, really rare one.
 17. Basically I've been offered a once in a lifetime buy, and I need some extra cash to make it happen. However my window of opportunity is tiny (next few days) and when that goes this will probably be withdrawn if it hasn't already gone; I've no real desire to sell it otherwise as it's a blinding bass in every respect. So; for sale, Sei Flamboyant headed 5 with flamed ash body, highly figured maple facings front and back (quilt with burl), birdseye maple board with purfling, flamed maple and mahogany neck, red side LEDs, twin Barts, Schack 18V circuit, piezo bridge, gold hardware all round. In excellent condition; the only flaw is a slight discoloration around one edge of the battery compartment where an old battery leaked at Moffat 2009; this really is something and nothing. No problems since and everything works great. Action is incredible and it's without doubt the nicest 5 string neck I've ever played, lovely and shallow. Spacing is around 17mm I think (can't find my ruler!) but is adjustable. Comes with gig bag. £1500 firm, sorry no trades or offers; this is a £3k bass new with a wait time of over 12 months. It sounds stunning and is extremely versatile. The B is as good as I've heard. Two things; if my window of opportunity closes (likely) and the bass I'm looking at goes, then this will be withdrawn. Also, I'm off to see RATM on Sunday so may, repeat may decide to take it to the Gallery for a commission sale, depending on the situation. This also means if someone wanted a quick buy I could maybe meet them in central London somewhere Saturday. Any questions please ask. Pics attached, and can send more if required. And no, the singlecut doesn't come with it (that's already gone)!
 18.
I mean true love, not lust or infatuation - love in the spiritual sense, where it feels like God is playing through you and you never want to be apart. Just wondered.
Yep. My '72 4001. It's actually known to all as The Voice of God. First time I picked it up I knew it was the one. First time I rehearsed/gigged with it, ditto. Since I've had the back pickup fixed (it died a few years back and I had been using a custom built replacement) the love affair has begun again. If I could never play another bass again I wouldn't care a jot.
 19.
Pointless worrying about it... Tone is completely subjective and dependant upon the other instruments in the group and genre of music. Also just because one bass player can make a certain combination of instrument and amp sound good doesn't mean anyone else can.
The biggest + I've ever added to anything!
 20.
I think the term 'genius' is used to frequently as a substitute for 'good'. I know guys who can sit and transcribe big band charts for every instrument from memory alone. To me that is more of a genius than someone who writes songs-the musical knowledge and understanding to be able to do that is far greater than what is needed to write a song. In my opinion of course.
I actually feel the opposite. Whilst the skill you describe is impressive, a memory skill doesn't make someone a genius in my book because it doesn't require either reasoning ability or creativity. My computer appears to be able to remember things very well but it's still just a computer. In this context, someone with true creativity is someone who I would be most likely to refer to as a genius.
 21.
I liked both forms of music,
Strange how people don't consider this. Whilst undoubtedely a well paying gig, maybe they actually still enjoy doing the non-jazz gigs. It's all music. Plenty of musicians (and very good ones) simply enjoy playing music, fullstop. I never think it's weird a musician from one genre playing in another.
 22.
start you own band.
Big +1.
 23.
Never had a Ric, what is the nut width and is the neck deep or sort of Jazz profile?
They vary massively from pencil thin to pretty chunky depending on year. The nut width is always wider than a Jazz though, although they're much slimmer up the dusty end. The neck is essentially pretty much the same width all the way up.
