1. I think a Precision would sound good with most types/gauges of strings. Different in each case, but still good! Try a few out, see what suits you best.
2. I bought a bass with a Badass ready fitted. Wouldn't say it was the best, but a good study bridge nonetheless. Looks good, sounds good, easy to set up. Would put it down because its a 'standard'.
3.
God bless 'em. Mine had me flicking through the ads here yesterday looking for Stingrays with "nice coloured bodies". This is a positive sign, as I am hankering for a Stingray with a nice coloured body
Good, good. The colour of my Stingray informed the colour scheme of our wedding... :-)
4. I play in two very different circumstances: 1: gigging rock band - I use a small but powerful amp to give on-stage monitoring. I EQ with a good low-mid thump as I have a bright enough tone to cut through anyway, and a bit of a thump on the back of the legs always feels good at a gig! 2: Sunday morning church - DI straight into the system, in-ear monitoring. Going for stage silence at this one as volumes are much lower and gives the PA guys a lot more control. Since going to this set-up I've been able to hear myself so much better!
5.
Even my wife has cottoned on to this...(as Jamerson thuds away in the background)..."Precision today then is it, love?"
Yeah... not sure I've fully convinced mrstheelvy that I need all mine, but I think I'm getting there. She can at least hear the difference between a P-bass strung with flats and a Ricky strung with steel rounds...
6.
Is it me or every bass in my hand sounds the same? I'm kinda up to the point that I don't bother buying new basses because they all sound the same in my hand ......
I do find that, but don't see that as a bad thing... I just sound like me... :-)
7. I enjoy having a number of different styles of bass to hand - gives options when playing with different bands. Yes, there's a little bit of readjustment for each one, but I don't play anything that's uncomfortable!
8. This is a simple MIDI control for the Digitech Whammy IV from Molten Voltage (http://www.pedalsync.com/). The installed chip steps through the settings of the Whammy with the effect off, but a chip is also included that steps through with the effect on. This particular model is now discontinued, but Molten Voltage will still provide chips for different functions if you wanted them. £20 posted. 9. I would say it's good to do both. Yes, practice without to really nail your playing and get that down, but practice with effects too to get to know how to use them well and get used to switching them in/out during songs. It's all very well knowing a song inside out, but if you then throw a pedal into the equation, it can trip you up at the last minute (figuratively or literally...).
10. Hmm, tempted, but I don't really need one... unfortunately have other things to spend my money on! Nice pedal though, and not seen often!
11. PM'd re OC-2.
12. I bought the Whammy 4 just before the V came out. Replaced that with the V just before this came out. If they come out with another even better model soon after this I might have to give up. Or just buy another one...
13. To find more results, search for 'next generation bass whammy' rather than 'new' or 'reissue'. Just Digitech's wording, but brings up a few more search results, and presumably more in months to come...
14. Sale is currently pending...
15. All sounding pretty good here: http://www.digitech.com/en-US/videos/play/xdYLTUyvJn4 Looking forward to this! You think they'll get it out in time for the LBGS?
16. Shortest video ever, but it's coming! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdYLTUyvJn4
17. Bump up
18. Hmmm, synths are better than the distortions in my opinion. Lots of synthy scope, especially if you attach a expression pedal. Distortions are good sounding but can lack bottom end in a mix. The modulations and delays are where it really shines though.
19.
I would have to disagree with this. I want my bollocks to be easily accessible to the general public when I am playing.
I refer to my previous post.
20.
Something that hasn't been mentioned : Arm length. Compared to my limb length, I have a short torso. Which means I have long arms.Compared to Ian Savage's picture, for example, my hands are a good 6 " closer to my knees, which means it's far more comfortable for me to have a low slung bass than it is for me to have it higher up.Just a thought.
This thread puts wierd pictures in my head...
21.
oh, and a picture of the polo shirt, as it currently stands:
Woo, still going well and not yet on it's first anniversary!
22. Mine's been slippling lower recently... Last gig I played I had it pretty high, but found it uncomfortable to sing with it like that and cumbersome to make any sort of performance. I don't think it'll be banging against my knees any time soon though...
