1.
I might pop down if I can - I didn't know you had a new band. Are you playing DB at all? Not much room for one on that stage! Bit of a funny setup that venue, stand downstairs and I get a good view of your shins, or go upstairs and I can just see your heads! Played my first ever gig there.
I've played there 5 or 6 times with my punk band and it was a squeeze for us as a trio! As there will be around 10 of us, we will have to have some of the band ( horn section) off stage I guess. I will probably use my Eminence electric upright bass for space reasons, it's first live airing
2. Thanks Big Red X, the album is in the last mix stage but we have five downloadable tracks on ITunes, the 3-track Speaking of Happiness EP, and two singles (rain on my footsteps and Shoot me Down)
3. Cheers Chris and thanks for the compliments Roland. I will post an update when I know our onstage time as I suspect it might preclude most out-of-Londoners for travel reasons
4. And I never knew Kelly Osbourne was a bass player. You learn something new every day. Bet she plays one of those pink Daisy Rock basses
5. Hey all, next up for Rattlin Bone is the small but friendly 12 Bar Club in Tin Pan Alley. Friday 11th March. Not sure what time we are on (will not be early, I am guessing around 11pm) but here's the flyer. What could be better than a Friday night meal in Covent Garden (or thereabouts) followed by some voodoo swamp blues? Not just any voodoo swamp blues but the No. 1 artist on UK Myspace too! Click below for photos and some of our music http://www.myspace.com/rattlinbone If you can't make this we are playing the Hootenanny in Brixton on 9th April, a much bigger venue (with about 700 in the audience) Hope to see some of you at one of these gigs, Cheers Clarky
6. At the risk of turning this into some pseud-y argument over what is art, surely a good musician is someone who creates music that has the power to move you or stir some form of emotion. Joy Division did that (and still do) and Hooky was instrumental in that sound and the emotions they conveyed. Even the naysayers would (in many cases at least) have to agree that Hooky created some memorable bass lines - just listen to the clip of 24 hours I posted and tell me that is not a wonderful and original bass line that is central to a deeply moving song.
7. Ceremony: 24 hours:
8. That clip might be rubbish but Hooky did some brilliant bass (yes, bass not guitar or anything else) lines. What is more they help make (and in some cases define) the song, despite his lack of technical brilliance. Take a listen to 24 hours, Ceremony, Transmission, or several others (LWTUA already mentioned, She's lost control, Disorder). No other bass player (at least at that time) sounded anything like him. How many bass players today can make that claim?
9. Look cheap to me. BassDirect sells them at £80 a time:
10. IME, D'Addario Chrome flats are bright and can be slapped (not that I slap) for a fair while before they dull down - much more so that TIs or the very thuddy Pyramids. They still have the nice slipperiness of flats though
11. Just did umpteenth deal together with Chris. This involved swapping rigs and a bass with two necks, so slightly more complex than our usual! The constant of course was meeting in a hotel car park off the M25 and doubtless appearing to other bemused hotel guests as some sort of weird music instrument traffickers. As ever Chris was a joy to deal with and a lovely bloke to boot.
12. I just sold Nick a Fender 62 RI P bass. Nick was very straight, quick to make up his mind and even quicker to pay. An altogether excellent selling experience. Highly recommended BC'er to do biz with
13.
I would take this 63
Me too! My yerar of birth - always wanted an oly white 63P
14.
Wow. Seriously nice. First Dingwall that has my attention. 16. So is this still for sale?
17.
And you don't even know about the Veillette discussions.
I might do
18.
Hmmmm .... so many decisions.
After your Shuker/Rob Allen thread, I can predict the future (I think)
19.
I'd just go and try out a bunch and get the one you like. So what if there is a small gap in the neck pocket or whatever,it's no big deal. Get one and work with it. For me,Fenders feel nicer as they get played in,and that won't happen in 20 minutes. Get a decent feeling one and work with it for a while.
Agreed, neck pocket gaps are over-rated as an issue IMHO. Most of my Fenders (young and old) have had a small gap and I very much doubt it had any affect on the bass' sound or playability (although I cannot of course prove that). Big gaps are different (I sent back a 2009 MIA Jazz with a whopping gap you could squeeze a coin into) but small gaps no biggie
20.
That Green is a lovely colour but Id like one thats a little younger!
ageist! (said the 47 year old who feels about 100)
21. Check out 4 Candles's seafoam green MIJ Jazz that he has up for sale on BC. Phwoar!
22. First one, prearloid too Las Vegas, C&W for me. But before that you need to straighten out the bridge and pickups which have gone a bit skewiff
23. Reckon this must be the one. Bl**dy gorgeous too, but I already have my Bacchus Jazz in seafoam green so won't be biting here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=surf+green
