This is getting to be a habit! I just sold Keith my '71 P/J fretless and as before he was a total gent to deal with

The Shuker JJ Burnel is a cracking P bass, better made and sounding than an American Std Fender IMHO

Very cool job you have done there. I love Mani's playing too - very underrated (some really good lines on the Second Coming which was woefully under-appreciated, as well as the more obvious lines like Adored and Resurrection). I once owned a Rick 3000, inspired by Mani, but just couldn't get on with the short scale so ended up selling it.
I just bought an old Wal of mine back, it's a november 87 Shedua fretless.. To be honest though it's not really intended to be a keeper.. I have "problems" with fretless basses which have the dots on the lines along the side, I want to have the dots in the "regular" position like on a fretted bass. It confuses me when I'm playing an I'm a bit lost on the neck.. So actually the plan is to trade this in if possible for a Wal fretless with the dots between the lines.. There's no hurry since I have other fretless basses but if the "right" fretless comes along I wouldn't hesitate. I took some pictures and recorded a short YT-clip (only the back pick-up (position 4, my favourite))
If you like the bass except for the side dots, why not get a good luthier to change the dots? They could add dark wood (ebony?) where the current dots are and add new white dots 'between the frets'. Would be the simplest solution, rather than trust to another bass that may not play as well for you

I have owned a couple of Ricks and the necks were completely different shaped - I had an early '80s 4001 with a clubby Precision-type neck which I really liked, then a '90s 4003 with a really skinny Jazz-type neck which i didn't get on with. I had no problem with the build quality of either and the simple addition of a Pickguardian pickup surround removed the issues over losing your thumb in the hole around the bridge pickup. If I wasn't all spent out (and with arguably too many basses already!) I would love squire's 4001V63 in the FS forum

Third deal with John (I think, when you've done as many as me it all blurs!) - a malfunctioning Mesa combo going one way and a lovely sounding EA Wizzy cab coming my way. John was very patient and understanding about the Mesa and packed the Wizzy to withstand a nuclear holocaust! All good, as before

Very retro cool - I'll bet tons of modern bands would kill for that rig!

I bought this so I could convert my fretless '71 P/J into a fretted bass if needed. Having sold the fretless this is surplus to requirements. The neck cost around £100-110 (can't remember exactly) and the Gotoh GB-4N tuners £46 (also includes a Fender-alike string tree which cost about a fiver). The Gotoh's didn't slot exactly into the (slightly larger) holes in the headstock so I put a small piece of paper around each tuner to hold them in tightly. It works fine but if you are being picky you would probably want to remove them and put them in slightly more neatly! How about [s]£110[/s] £100 plus post, about a third less than what it cost me? All in perfect nick as never left house (edit: a couple of the tiny screws on the rear of the tuners are a bit stripped as I hadn't made the holes counter-sunk quite enough but could easily be removed if needs be)

Although I didn't buy it through BassChat, I recently bought a lovely Wal Mk 2 from Paul. As he is a new member of BassChat I thought it would be helpful to all if I posted here to let the good people of BassChat know that he was very straightforward, honorable and friendly in his dealings and that his bass was exactly as described. So have no fears buying/selling from Paul!

Played Meadowlands festival today. The bad: it was far from great weather - grey, threatening to rain and with huge gusty-y winds - and that, coupled with our early time slot (1.30pm) meant we only played to about 100 people, which was a bit disappointing. The good: we played well, my new DB rig worked fabulously (Acoustic Image Clarus+ through an EA Wizzy 12"), and the audience enjoyed our set. The BBC Radio 'Introducing ...' DJ that played us on her show a few weeks back came along and was really complimentary about the set, so hopefully word spreads Next up is a slimmed down version of the band (probably 8/9 of us, instead of 14) at the 12 Bar on Friday 10th June
When I play the C♯ on the E string (ie 9th fret) the string rattles and buzzes on the frets behind that note. If I fret C and C♯ it disappears, hence the string must be buzzing on the lower frets. I don't know whether I need to tweak the truss rod to straighten or put more relief in it. What I have noticed is that on other occasions when I've put more relief in the neck is that notes above the 12th fret start to choke a lot, so that option could be some what limited. Cheers
I have had something similar. Sounds like one fret wire is standing too far proud and the neck needs a fret stoning. Any luthier or guitar shop should be able do this quite cheaply

I wasn't wild about this bass, although I so wanted to love it (as it looks so incredibly cool). I found it wasn't as playable as a fretless electric bass (due to the heavily-radius'd finger board and unadjustable bridge, hence quite high action) or as an upright bass (due to 34" scale). Like I say, I was all set to bash the credit card but it wasn't for me.
