1.
Go to an actual music shop and try an actual amp?
No shop anywhere near me stocks Markacoustic or Phil Jones amps. I went ahead and ordered on the basis of lots of web research and the (mistaken) assumption that the QC departments of these companies do their jobs properly
2. Hi BRX, I can't make that day unfortunately but will be interested in your feedback on the venue as we are playing there 5 days later
3. In the search for the perfect DB combo I recently bought a MarkBass Markacoustic combo from Thomann. It arrived swiftly but had some sort of electrical fault as it made a horrible rumbling distorted sound whenever I played a note on my DB. That went back. Disgruntled, I decided to try the much lauded Phil Jones next and ordered a Super Flightcase from Guitar Guitar. That arrived yesterday and today I find the limiter does not work (light doesn't come on and turning the dial makes no difference to sound). Gah! Now that will have to go back. Returns policies are all well and good but its a pain to have to re-pack, to be in all day to wait for pickup and then to have to wait for refund (still waiting on Thomann 2 weeks later). I wish QC would spot these issues before they are shipped out to unsuspecting customers. Rant over
4. Storming last set chaps. The old P bass sounded fab, especially on the more 'trad' songs (Folsom Prison etc) and MacDaddy is the new Carlos Santana
5. Urgh, don't you just hate bulging 'outy' belly buttons? Or am I just a prejudiced bellybuttonist bigot?
6. I should be there for the last (11pm) set so save the best ones til the end!
7. These are excellent - Minotaur from Greece - about £30-40 and arrived within a few days. Top quality and able to deal with heavy basses (I have a dodgy shoulder and back) http://minotaur.gr/catalog/index.php?cPath=28&osCsid=kea90j8ah0o229867kdh25ar02
8. Love the orange, Wayne. Gets my vote
9. This might actually be a gig I can make, Nige (assuming no band practice or gig of my own, of course)
10. Having once been a member of the Ric forum, many of whose hugely partisan members positively revel in ratting out Rickenfaker sales, I can only imagine they are planning an invasion of our small island waving their (dual) truss rods in righteous indignation
11. Did you mean to type ass, ped
12. There's now about 7 or 8 ex Pino basses listed on the Gallery's new arrivals page. He's obv having a bit of a clear out
13. How sadly predictable
14. If you check the items wanted forum, there's a BCer ( username Old Horse Murphy) who may be after this. I would drop him a PM
15. Bump!
16. In answer to OP question ... ... Because there's a lot of w@nkers out there Sad but true. Sorry Barrie but something way better will turn up. Forget them as they will probably treat the new bass guy just as disdainfully and you will probably be best out of it
17. Re- think of price. Was £380 posted but have cut to £340 posted which is a truly hefty saving from new, especially given custom gig bag. Collected is £15 less, ie, £325
18. Fabulous strings - I think of them as the TI flats of DB, as in low tension, easy to play and sound great. Have a bump on me!
19. I have used this as my travel bass for a few years but, as I am always practising for bands with 4 string bass lines, the 5th string just annoys me! It's in vgc (just one corner very minorly dented) and comes with a very hard to find fitted Ritter gig bag. Cheapest I can find online is £500 http://www.incredibid.co.uk/acatalog/Hohner_B2A_Headless_Bass_Walnut.html and that's without the gig bag. I will sell for £340 including post in UK. No pics as I am out of UK now but it's the walnut stain finish and looks identical to the one in the link.
20. I have a Rev Solo 2 that I recently bought from PaulKing but which, TBH, doesn't sound any better on my Kolstein than the Planet Wing which was already installed. You are welcome to borrow that if interested, Laurence? Would be end of next week as I'm typing this out of the country and not back in blighty until Tuesday.
21.
Dude, buy Emlyn's bass, however you do this it's going to be a leap of faith to an extent. You're welcome to come down here and play my GF (that's German Flatback not Girl Friend) any time. OK, it won't be the same for sure, but it might provide a comparison? C
Cheers Chris, I have been in contact with Emlyn and we'll see what happens
22. Bump. £100 discount to any BCer that I have done previous business with as I have found the DB I am after and need to replenish the coffers
23. I am hugely tempted by Emlyn's c1880 German bass but just wanted to check if there's anything else out there that fits my criteria ... And budget of no more than £3k!!!
