Just played first gig with my new band 'All The Queens Ravens' at the Hootananny in Brixton, a fantastic, lively multi-cultural venue. We did a 40 minute set and I played all but one song. We got a great reception from the typically-big big crowd at the Hootananny and the rest of the band were really chuffed. Still buzzing! Good thing the adrenaline kicked in as I flew in to UK this morning from Brazil and am very jet-lagged
Thanks gents, it was fantastic. Played really well in a 40 minute set. Great reception from a big crowd at the Hootananny and the rest of the band were really chuffed. Still buzzing! Good thing the adrenaline kicked in as I flew in to UK this morning from Brazil and am very jet-lagged

23 mins has passed by and no one has dibbed it!

At that price, it won't be long!
If you google (eg, on TalkBass), these come very highly recommended for double bass but electric bassists like them too. At about half UK retail price looks good value but I can't help thinking photos would help your sale
Mark at BassDirect is straight talking and will give you a good answer - he stocks the NS range http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/NS_Design_WAV.html
If you buy an amp from say Thomann in Germany or a continental BC'er, I presume the amp comes with a kettle lead with a continental plug on the end. Can you simply replace this with a UK kettle lead to use it safely in the UK? Or are there different voltages/whatever applying that means this cannot be done and that some sort of electronic conversion is required.
Sorry its such a dumbass question but occasionally there appear to be bargains from our European friends and I've never considered buying from outside the UK on the grounds of the foregoing.
I think one of the reasons I got the gig was preparation and my OCD'ness - I went to see them live and then learned seven songs (they only play originals) for the audition. So I'm already most of the way to learning a 30-45 minute set

Strange, because I seem to be able to make all basses sound like me.

I have an uncanny ability to sound like Les Dawson's piano playing, what ever bass I have in my hands
I'm getting a clear picture here, Marvin S and Keith! Maybe I was barking up the wrong tree with the Ten2. Bear in mind that I would be carrying the Takamine acoustic bass (B10) not the DB on the train so it probably is do-able. But nevertheless if its heavy-ish and awkward shaped, its probably not what I am after. Thanks for your comments gents.

Alembic Spoiler, bought off Clarky but in the end I had to sell. Many thanks to George Osborne for that one, never mind I suppose my gold-plated pension will let me buy a new one.

That was a wonderful bass which I sold because it didn't fit the vibe of my then-punk band. I'd have it back in a heartbeat too, now
The spec sheet says it's 32 pounds which sounds OK, but then I guess a lot depends on how it is carried (where handles are etc). Most of the time it wouldn't be public transport ... but the rehearsal venue for my new band is out of the way in SE London and I won't always have the car available to me on those days. So it would be very occasionally that I would be on trains etc
A selection of Clash, Ramones, Pistols, Stranglers and some more left-field ones (eg, some Buzzcocks and Magazine) and you are sorted. Too many songs to mention but I'd defo have London Calling as the opener

Hey Clarky
Why.not get yourself a Ten ex and keep your amp. It amounts to pretty much the same thing.

hi there, it's something I had thought about but the advantages of the combo are easier portability (important if I have to use London transport) plus the head pops out if you need to use a different cab. When I last contacted AI Europe they had no combo conversion kits (which was the first option I investigated) as they are introducing a new series (IV I think)
Just a quick thank you to everyone for your kind words
Now I'd better not f*ck up the gig next Friday at the Hootananny... so some serious learning to be done!
