I think it was indeed when I tried some higher tension flats (I have tended to use Chromes historically) that I noticed this problem, Jas. I have a Planet Wing piezo on my Kolstein and all the comments made in the OP about the BassMax could be applied to this. It sounds frankly rubbish in the home, amplified, on what is an extraordinarily beautiful sounding bass acoustically. I have just bought a BassMax to see if this improves things

Replicating the Off Topic thread, I decided to change strings on my old German flatback yesterday. The E, A and G were all nicely sited and as I tightened the D there was an almight bang as my adjustable bridge flew into pieces and the soundpost dropped on to the inner floor of the bass. Now I have to drive to Malcolm Healey's in SW London to get it fixed and the only days I can do that are Olympic traffic-warning days in SW London. So either I sit in an almighty traffic jam or wait a month or so until I am back from hols and the Olympics hassle is over. Grrrrr

Going to be a hellish day traffic-wise in London but for those able to make it, it would make a refuge from Olympic fever!
