1. This chap - the founder of flamenco bass playing for those unfamilar (and despised by some flamenco aficionados as a result) - can swing with a pick and has amazing chordal abilities. Its a bit different so you may like or love it! In case interested he is playing his signature bass from Barcelona-based luthier Jerzy Drozd http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ZEEm2Ao6vt0
2. Thanks Ad - BTW, the album is now on Spotify too
3. I've only used it on one gig so far and the CMD121P combo was plenty loud. I know BCer PTB uses this combo for his Chicago blues and swing gigs as does PaulKing who is an ace slapper. Probably best to drop them a PM Laurence
4. I find Acoustic Image's amps are better than their cabs, not that the latter are bad, just not outstanding. The BigE is a lot better cab than anything AI offer, in my opinion. But as a combo, the Ten2 is a nifty thing for all but the loud gigs
5. Bump for a nice bass that was previously owned by me and before that by Gareth. Superb value at under 700 notes for an augmented US 62 RI
6.
what's the Big E 4X5 like?
TheRev (aka Dave) has a BigE 4x5 and described it, IIRC, as "all-conquering". I'll leave Roger to answer (as he owns my old BigE) as he has gigged it a fair bit now, I believe. My impression was that it is very "true" and creates a wide "sound field" with the vortex placement of the speakers (so the bass can be heard all over the stage as well as by the audience). I only sold as I think the benefits tend to get lost with very loud gigs, which are essentially what I play, so I've gone to a simple combo solution (Ten2 for small/mid sized gigs and Markbass CMD112P for loud ones). For a band with space for the DB to be heard (eg, a jazz trio, say) they are amazing cabs
7. 7. Clarky - probably something double bass-shaped as there will be plenty of fenders on display!
8.
I like the opener Clarky. Very nice
Thanks Nick
9. Hi all, in case interested our album is now downloadable from itunes and from Amazon (£7.49). Here's a link to the latter http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hearts-for-Judas/dp/B00DH5QP9A/ref=sr_shvl_album_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373528532&sr=301-1
10. The alternative feedback free solution is to order a mag pickup from Kent Armstrong or import one from Krivo in US. Obviously only if you have steel strings! Then you get the DB look, as much volume as you will ever need and a sound which bears a decent approximation to a DB (at the volumes you are talking I doubt the audience would ever know it wasn't a piezo)
11. Thanks Roberto! To be honest, there's minimal difference in tone and playability between Danny Thompson strings and Mittels bar the latter having a bit more growl. However I need to settle on one set for my flatback (my smaller bodied Kolstein has Spiro Weichs on), hence my vgc Mittels are FS
12. There's quite a few positive reviews on TalkBass from US players who have imported them from the UK to the US, all very positive about the quality and the customer service
13.
Are these the same tracks as the ones on Spotify? I played them yesterday, loved them and will be getting the album.
Hi Sam, thats our old six-track EP on Spotify. 5 of those tracks are on the album (albeit remastered) plus 7 brand new ones, including the two I have posted up on BC (both are on Soundcloud), Las Vegas Parano and New York Red. Cheers!
14. Nice one Jack. Kris seems very helpful. I am getting him to make me a custom gigbag for the Ampeg BB (which won't smell of children's vomit and old parmesan, like the 1960s original does!!!) and he is going to fix the bridge on mine (actually replace the metal bridge with a maple one so that I can safely slot a piezo pickup into the bridge wing without fear of it popping out). Incidentally, the BB sounded awesome at the launch gig last night (I listened outfront as I let teh support act borrow it and the soundguy, who works a lot with acoustic instruments like DBs, also complimented it)
15. Thanks again Nige! Am still buzzing PS, our album is now available on itunes https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/hearts-for-judas/id662981798
16. Thanks Keith, the Ampeg Baby Bass worked superbly. The soundguy praised its sound ("very punchy") and it was so nice not to have to worry about feedback for a change Still buzzing from the gig (me, not the bass)!
17. Nige and Lozz, I really appreciated you coming along and really you are too kind. But yeah, I think I got very lucky joining this band! Absolutely loved the gig tonight, met all of my hopes Cheers again, chaps!
18.
Yeehaw! Cool track man, band's got a good sound there. Congrats.
Why, thank you! This is generally the track we open our live set with as its nice and upbeat
19. As not everyone subscribes to the Recording forum, I thought I'd be cheeky and post this here. This ('New York Red') is one of the new songs from our debut album, released today. Hope you like it https://soundcloud.com/all-the-queens-ravens/new-york-red Here's the blurb re album etc http://basschat.co.uk/topic/211878-all-the-queens-ravens-album-released-link-plus-new-song-for-ya/page__pid__2135523#entry2135523

21. Last call. Free entry! Support acts at about 7.45 and 8.30, we are onstage about 9.30
22. I'm in All The Queens Ravens .... a mix of folk/pop/blues/country/flamenco, described by one punter as "Fleetwood Mac goes to Spain" and another as "gypsy pop"
23. These are £115 plus post at Thomann http://www.thomann.d...pirocore_02.htm Mine are almost new, just a bit of fuzzing on the red silks (no exposed metal at the peg end). Reflecting their excellent condition, I will sell at £80 including post within UK. Only selling as I am sticking with Danny Thompson signature strings on my 1880s flatback (a bit of hero worship!)
24. Fancied some RAWK in the sun today, so it was Metallica ('Unforgiven') and Sabbath ('Heaven and Hell' - just love the part where the guitar leads in to the fast second part) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fb-UxzgkTds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EL67mjv1nM
25.
Really? I'll ask him about that. ...any dirt on Frank?
I didn't ask Anyway folks, tomorrow night! Free entry too
