4.
Cheers Dave! Do you know the impedance of the Burmans, by any chance? Ta for the PM too... I'll have a chat to Tim, but I'm about to be away for a few days.
No hurry mate, let me know as and when, I will ask Phil monday but at a guess 8 ohms at 50 watts
 5.
Yeah, I think that might be the next course of action. It only started playing up towards the end of the session, so we didn't have much time for muckin' aboot.
Hi Owain Sounds like they are gonners. They voice coils start to drag when they get over hot, they may stop when they have cooled but it is unlikely, It usually sounds as you have described barky, scratchy etc, which is the expanded coil catching the sides of the magnet on its travel. If you want to test the damage, place the cab on its back and push the coils gently by hand and if you can feel it catching then its buggered. If you cant move it at all then it has welded itself to the magnet, This has happened to me before when i lent my monitors to an ex student for PA hire, how he manged to blow 2, 15 inch monitors capable of handling 500 watts each and not realise at the Head of Steam is beyond me Tell Tim, Phil Poolan at work has an old pair of Burman 12s which he has no use for. Cheers Dave

 10.
Think you might have to steal some more mate, took me ages to sell mine on here. It eventually went. Another BC'er recommended that I put it on the bay, as these are quite sort after in some parts of Europe and you may well be able to get a better price.
Yeah ebay it, I got 60 for my S1000HD
 11. My power amp has a low level buzz/noise (on both channels) that is inaudible when playing through it but is irritatingly obvious when not. I have had a trusted engineer friend look at it, he cleaned the board and pots but there is no obvious component failure. Any idea? Cheers Dave

Good hunting on your neck quest.
I put the quality of the finish purely down to Dave Wilson (75Jazz) and Im thinking of a WD neck which are only £99 new.
Absolute stormer of a bass!
Cheers mate.
 15.
Thanks Nick. Yes it did turn out well, I want to do another now, probably a 70's jobbie.
Turned out well is a bit of an understatement mate its gorgeous And a 70s "jobbie", is that one of those very dry white ones found in the parks of your youth?

 19.
The amount of arts funding for jazz is derisory, despite it having the same size audience as Opera, which gets millions in funding.
I agree Opera gets a disproportionate amount of funding, but it still doesn't make the funding of Jazz over rock and pop acceptable. Music is made for audience appreciation and as the public ultimately pay the funding through taxes then should the most popular not get the biggest share of the pot, ie rock and pop? I cant tell you the amount of gigs Ive played where we have re arranged a cover, extended solos sections or played something obscure by an artist only to be treated to silence at the end followed by "Play one we know." You have to play what the audience or bar manager wants otherwise you dont work.
 20.
I struggle to get past the idea that playing other people's stuff the way they played it is just pretending - one step up from a tennis racquet in front of the mirror. Tribute bands are just like taking the tennis racquet out in public -
Surely its all about what the audience are expecting/wanting/willing to pay for? after all I play bass in a band to entertain an audience if i wanted to self pleasure i would lock the bathroom door But as you mentioned earlier its all about entertainment. If the audiences for Jazz and classical gigs were not so heavily subsidised by arts funding in general (in comparison to rock and pop) then Im sure the "more entertaining" music would be self sustaining? I would also love the MU to fund my annual salary (as per local sinphonias) so I could play a handful of gigs a year and rehearse but unfortunately they dont so as a working musician I have to make the choice of playing music to earn a living or not.
 21. Just incase you have an old bike chain lying around the roller element of a segment makes the prefect washer, they fit over truss rods and are nice and wide.
 22. Are you using the internal switching function to use a a 2 channel pre or are you running them in series? I have the RBI and have always thought about getting the RPM to do this.
 23.
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=123684
That's a shame, its was a great bass but seems like a really good seller.
