1. Here is a screwjack 4 string bass bridge, which i think was made by wilkinson, I know this was a prototype which was a prototype bought from Overwater in 1994. They had received it as a sample. The bridge is very heavy and very solid offering action and intonation adjustment for each string. It has 5 screw attachment and is a direct replacment for a fender 5 screw bridge as per badass bridges.
 2. Here are mine. A stingray was the first dream bass i wanted when i first started playing, inspired by Steve Garvey from the Buzzcocks. Eventually got one and didnt stop! Left to right Piezo Ltd natural 3 Band , Honey Burst 3 Band, Ash body with Cairns neck and Musicman 2 Band in vintage white, 78 see through brown. Recently had the necks of the two 3 bands lacquered and they play much better, never really been a fan of waxed necks, they get very sticky when im playing, its just my preference i knwo some bass players who say the opposite.

 5.
No probs! She (Mrs Wilkes!) is still in the family so to speak - can you believe its over 10 years that the old Yahoo clubs were first set up! My collection is now reaching critical mass - I've got 57 basses and at least 13 lesser instruments (geetars!) so I'm either going to open a bass shop, buy a bigger house or sell them all and buy a Lamborghini (think thats how to spell it)! I recently picked up a JayDee Calibas 6 string bass - monstrous. Just need to learn how to play it. Nick
10 years? Its terrifying how quickly time has passed, Im 40 in September!!!! 57 Basses, thats crazy talk you lucky bugger. Not sure what to do with my lot, not sure wether to go for any more, i sold about 10-12 over the last couple of years to buy some more fenders and slightly older basses and a few guitars to increase the value of the collection. I might go alembic, not sure at the moment nothing really taken my fancy lately. Re Mrs Wilkes, if you ever fancy a swap type deal let me know mate. ATB Dave

 18. Couple of reviews of the pickup off harmony central, there are a few that slate it as well, but these do describe the sound accurately Overall Rating : 9 Comments: This pickup is very smooth and warm. I assume every will run it through a preamp because most musicmans are active. in that case this pickup is perfect. it can be fat dull and bassy. super midsy with insane bell like harmonics and bright ass trebly with lots of snap. I prefer just a little bass and mids with the treble set flat. if playing through a cab with a horn I might even turn the treble down for slapping. very clean sounding pickup. I'm sure if you know what MM's sound like you'll be very happy with this pickup. By the way it insanly quiet. Overall Rating : 10 Comments: I would buy this pickup again. I satisfies the classic Sting Ray sound that I was not getting from the stock pickup. I've seen playing the bass for 22 years. I own a '69 Fender Precision and an '80 G&L L1000. I'm satisfied with the sound of these other basses, but the Sting Ray is my main bass. I love the feel and playability of the Sting Ray and now I love the sound. I never experienced the tonal varieties of the preamp with the stock pickup. I believe I had a bad stock pickup because I've heard great tones from stock Sting Rays. Everytime I would play on the G string with the stock pickup, it sounded like someone turned my amp down 2-3 notches and set the compressor on full. I found myself playing higher up the neck to avoid that string. Now I don't have to play harder on the G string or try to avoid it. I definitely gives me that Sting Ray sound that I was not gettin with the stock pickup. There is also a cool factor involved. My bass is black with a black pickguard and pickguard screws. With the all black Bartolini pickup, it looks really clean; kind of like a newer model Cadillac STS with a minimum of chrome!
 19.
Hi Dave - what's it sound like?
Very similar to stingray but with a smoother less aggressive top end. I love the sound of it but i want the exposed pole pieces. Thanks Dave
 20. Never used this for ages, sounds fantastic though. Shame to have it sit at home doing nothing, full working order, couple of paint chips but nothing major, the one below just sold for 26+8 p+p on ebay so £25 posted? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=014 Thanks Dave Blurb from Boss; BF-2B Bass Flanger By optimizing the BF-2 circuit for a lower frequency band, the BF-2B Bass Flanger was born 1987. The Bass Flanger was not replaced by another model when the production of the brown series of bass pedals was stopped. It is however now replaced by the BF-3 that have both a guitar and bass input. Boss Pocket Dictionary Vol. 6 (1989): The BF-2B Bass Flanger adds swirling and dynamic effects to your sound, opening up a world of intense tonal color variations. But as in the CE-2B, the bass fundamentals remain untouched with flanging added just to the harmonics. The original bass sound's punch and clarity is not diminished, and distinctive flanging is added to your bass sound for greater musical expression. Featuring a wide 100ms to 16 second variable LFO rate range, the BF-2B's four controls offer a wide array of flanging effects, ranging from swooshing jet sounds through chorus-like effects and vibrato effects. A Manual control adjusts the delay time, while Depth determines the sweep range. Then use Rate to set the sweep speed and the Resonance control for adjusting the amount of feedback desired. And as with the BF-2, low-noise performance has been engineered into the BF-2B wherever possible. Using the BF-2B Bass fundamentals stay unaffected so the bass' original power and clarity are fully present, even if heavy flanging is used. The BF-2B offers the challenge of creating your own distinctive bass techniques. Different combinations of the BF-2B's four controls deliver numerous flanging effect variations. The setting illustrated in Fig. 1 (Manual 8, Depth 6, Rate 3, Res 8) produces a powerful jet flanging effect, ideal for heavy metal. The fundamental sound stays unflanged, so a powerful sound composed of flanging plus the original punch and tonal characteristics of bass sound may be enjoyed. If the Manual setting is lowered and the Resonance control set to zero, a soft chorus-like effect will result. Fig. 2 (Manual 3, Depth 5, Rate 5, Res 0) Boss Guitar Effects Guide Book vol.9 (1993): When a flanger effect unit for guitar is used with bass, the resulting sound will often be muddy and hard to distinguish from other instrument sounds. The BF-2B is engineered especially for the bass guitar, so it produces an outstandingly clear and distinctive flanging effect while retaining the character of the original sound. Four controls are furnished, allowing you to create a variety of effects. Using the BF-2B For a vibrato effect: Turn MANUAL to minimum and RATE to maximum. (Fig. 1: Manual 0, Depth 5, Rate 10, Res 3) To produce a hard flanging sound: Raise the RES level for a powerful flange effect suitable for metal. (Fig. 2: Manual 8, Depth 5, Rate 3, Res 8) For a chorus effect: Keep the RES level at minimum for a chorus effect. Reduce the DEPTH level to get a short delay. (Fig. 3: Manual 4, Depth 10, Rate 5, Res 1) Specifications Controls: Manual, Depth, Rate, Res Connectors: Input, Output, AC Adaptor Current Draw: 14 mA (DC 9V) Weight: 400 g (15 oz.) Input Impedance: 470 kOhm Residual Noise Level: -95 dBu (IHF-A, Typ.) Recommended Load Impedance: 10kOhm or greater Delay Time: 0.5 ms ~ 6.5 ms LFO Speed: 100 ms ~ 16 s Recommended AC Adaptor: ACA Series Labels Green - Made In Japan Green - Made In Taiwan The BF-2B was sold from February 1987 to November 1994.
