  1. As far as I'm aware, the Sonic Blue + white scratchplate version of the Classic Vibe 60s Precision appeared first, and had the bridge cover fitted as standard. This was followed by the Fiesta Red + tort version, which didn't come with a bridge cover. I really fancied a Sonic Blue one, but by the time I'd decided to get one, none were available new, and everybody who had one wasn't selling them - I eventually picked up a 2010 Fiesta Red one on here, not my first choice of colour admittedly but with the added bonus of a Wizard Thumper pickup, which had been completely unmentioned in the ad! 😁 The original Sonic Blue and Fiesta Red models were both made in China - I believe the later Oly White and 3TS versions were made in Indonesia rather than China, no idea how they match up against the "originals".
  2. All locked-up on the Skegness Riviera... 😎
  3. May be of interest to any Spacemen3 / Spiritualized / Spectrum / Brian Jonestown Massacre / Dead Skeletons (and many more) fans, or people who like Gibson Thunderbirds. Will Carruthers has (finally) decided to sell the 1976 Thunderbird he used recording and touring with the above. Further details here... http://willcarruthers.squarespace.com/blog/2020/11/7/storied-gibson-thunderbird-bass-for-sale-one-careless-owner
  4. Ah, thanks for the explanation - the only time I saw Hawkwind live was sometime in the early 80s (Preston Guildhall), and to be honest the only things I can remember are the lights and the labcoats, but never understood the latter!!! Just for the record, I'd probably have fit more in the leather (and denim) camp... 😎
  5. The decal looked odd to me too, but the other examples I've found (both in Australia) appear to have the same style decal / finish on the headstock... 🤔
  6. And another example here... https://stringswitchnoise.com.au/fender-jazz-bass-special-p-j-vintage-white-1984-vintage/
  7. I'm no expert (I'm sure one will be along shortly!), but FWIW there's a similar instrument for sale in Australia on Reverb, and that has the same style tuners. https://reverb.com/item/7741620-1987-fender-japan-pj-455-precision-jazz-bass-special-mij-black-w-gigbag
  8. Shortly after I joined Basschat in 2008, somebody was offering a white 65RI like that for sale. To this day, I'm still kicking myself for not buying it... 😢
  9. Bit late to the party as usual, but I'm in! 👍
  10. Should be just the thing for that first gig back at the Dog & Duck... http://www.guitarworld.com/amp/news/rolling-stones-bassist-bill-wymans-colossal-steel-wheels-bass-amp-rig-goes-up-for-auction More Wyman stuff up for auction here too... https://www.juliensauctions.com/about-auction?id=322
  11. Sounds like we were at all the same gigs!!! And even after seeing Motorhead umpteen times (at least once on every tour from 1979 to 1984, plus odd gigs since), I still reckon Magnum at the Norbreck was the loudest gig I've ever attended... 🤯
  12. Hah, I was just going to post about the Blizzard of Ozz warm-up at the Norbreck, but then saw you'd beaten me to it! Ditto the NWoBHM bands we saw there who then went on to bigger things (Iron Maiden with Di'Anno, Def Leppard, Saxon), and the ones who didn't quite make it but are still going, or have been and gone and come back again (eg Angel Witch, Vardis and Witchfynde). Oh, and Hanoi Rocks at the Bierkeller on the Prom. Happy, heady days... 😎
  13. From the Lull FB page... https://www.facebook.com/mikelullcustomguitars/photos/a.194917233922362/2784997114914348/?type=3&theater
  14. Yeah, my feelings exactly, on both counts! 😁
  15. For thems as like this kind of thing (you know who you are 😉)... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184159246167?ul_noapp=true
  16. If size doesn't matter (the dimensions of Ashdown pedals do seem to bother a few folks!), how about the Ashdown LoMenzo Hyperdrive? Set the frequency band to be subjected to the drive / distortion effect using the FREQ control, set the amount of drive using the DRIVE control, then blend the dry signal back in with the MIX control, and Bob's yer auntie's live-in lover.
  17. Beige, maaaaan... 😎 "Beige's guitar, lute and harpoon player, Geoff Djeff: "I'd been struggling for hours to come up with a fresh concept. In a flash of inspiration I got the idea of combining a cosmic apocalypse with my favourite TV programme, 'The Black & White Minstrel Show.' I knew right away I'd got something really classy..." 18. Hmm, looks like the bass has now completely disappeared off Andy Baxter's site... 🤔
  19. Just resurrecting this thread again rather than start another. It would appear that Barry Matthews is no longer with us, his '66 Slab is up for sale via Andy Baxter. My dream bass, but as I don't have £11, 995.00 going spare, it'll just have to remain a dream... https://www.andybaxterbass.com/collections/fender-precision-bass/products/1966-fender-precision-bass-slab-body-blon
  20. My Other Half's quite "crafty" (in the nicest possible sense), I'll see if she can knock up a few of these! Ker-ching... 🤑
  21. And literally a "John Paul Jones Signature" bass if my eyes don't deceive me! 😎
  22. Glenn Hughes, particularly on "Made In Europe". That said, it was about 20 years after that LP came out that I actually got my first bass and started playing, and I've never learnt how to play with a pick so can hardly call him a direct influence on my particular playing style.
  23. It's how I started. Everybody else attending the NWOBHM gigs at Blackpool Norbreck Castle was playing air guitar, so I chose bass instead. Seemed like a good career move...
  24. Oops, I knew there was another Trace fan I forgot to tag - sorry @Deedee! Yeah, they're odd wee beasties. All I can really say is they're 8ohm, rated at 150W, and some have a horn while others don't. From the pictures I've seen, the speaker can either be located centrally (like the two currently on eBay), or offset to the side like the two in these links... https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/trace-elliot-blx-110-speaker-745211227 https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/trace-elliot-blx-110-bass-cab-473138345 Mine's one of the hornless / offset speaker variety, and for some reason the TE badge is in the diagonally opposite corner to all the others! And yes, the head may be familiar to you... 😉
