bongos are a very odd shape - but i've noticed that in pictures where people are actually wearing/playing them they look much better than they do just by themselves..... perhaps these designers DO know what they're doing after all! peace c

very good... i like his bass alot too..nice finish to it, very unusual! peace c -
ooooh...... now i really like the blue!! that is indeed a beaut. the price of Wals seems to be getting a bit ridiculous lately though, I know they're fantastic instruments and are worth paying for but they never used to go for silly money like they seem to nowadays. peace c

+1 for Muzz Skillings as a great bassist. He used to rule - (he probably still does somewhere!) erm.... The Stranglers - 'walk on by' has JJ giving it some on his bass at the end as i recall. peace c
To be fair, Randy Jackson got his America Idol judge gig off the back of his bass playing resumé, didn't he?
more than likely he did yes, but I would guess he's more widely recognised for his American Idol work these days - at least by the average man in the street if not us fellow low enders.
I thought Martin Kemp was the guitarist?
Martin Kemp was the bassist - it was his bro Gary on guitar.... 99% sure anyway.. peace c
The bassist from fightstar (Charlie from busted's new band) Designed the quake games as far as i know.
hmmmm....seems unlikely to say the least when you consider how long ago the original quake came out and how old the members of fightstar are! .....he may have worked as a designer on one of the later quake games maybe peace c

Randy Jackson - the American Idol judge Martin Kemp - that bloke off Eastenders (and now sofa advertisement fame!) who used to be in Spandau Ballet Sarah-Jayne from young kids TV show Tikkabilla! she had it on there once...a Yamaha RBX or something similar! and don't forget the mighty Alan Partridge can slap a mean 'air bass' when listening to Gary Numan in the static home! peace c

oooooh....me likee the hair metal flavour of that Hamer!!!! nice one peace c -
i used to have the G+L L2000 4 string. It was a lovely bass and the sound of it was incredible but it was a seriously heavy bass and the neck was one of the fattest I've encountered. I think they do ones with differing neck profiles though? so perhaps mine was just a chunky one! a very nice bass all in all, but not right for me personally. peace c

so for a while now i've been semi-GASsing for a Stingray, but now I've kinda got my eye on a Sterling instead (mainly because you see fewer of them around and I don't like the metal control plate on a Stingray). I was just wondering what the actual differences between them were and peoples thoughts on the subject..... also I was wondering what the deal was with picking a colour etc.... looking on the ernie ball website i see you can pretty much mix and match finishes, pickguards etc but obviously a shop probably wouldn't stock the exact one I would want fire away.... c

isn't it about time the bass merchant got their website sorted?!?!! peace c

just saw some unsigned (i guess) punky band on one of the 'open access' digital channels wearing one! c

Jaydee Supernatural G&L L2000 Natural Fender Jazz (Still got) Tanglewood 6 String Bass Goodfellow Spitfire Prototype Fender Precision Special Deluxe (Still got) Rickenbacker/Stingray/Jazz hybrid (Ric bodyshape, MM pickup/pickguard, Jazz neck!) haha...awesome! c

yeah i've bought a bass from gak before. absolutely no problem at all, delivered quickly, had a tracking number and everything so could follow the order, would definitely use them again peace c

yay! Les be da man without a doubt. You should also check out some of his other projects outside of Primus - (Oysterhead with Stewart Copeland on drums being particularly good) I believe he's just written a novel too?...and directed a film/documentary on the jam band scene Les for President! peace c

I really like the idea of blind reviews. Even any subconscious favouritism towards a brand would go out of the window in this scenario and it would be a true test of the playabiliy/sound/feel of the instrument minus any kind of opinion based on look/logo etc. I reckon it would throw up some interesting results too. You know it makes sense. peace c

Red Yamaha Attitude Ltd 1 70's Precision - Beaten Up, Sunburst, Ideally additional J pup, Maple Fingerboard, Ric Sandberg California P Some kind of 'boutique' bass, maybe singlecut some peace and quiet. c

yeah perhaps not walnut....matey here at work whose more of a guitar geek than me reckons it was probably stripped and had just become quite dark and grubby over the years....like i say...mojo! that was the only bass in the shop, he had some nice old hofner jazz guitars and a very nice 'fake' gibson les paul plus various epiphone semis and the like peace c

found a strange little shop in Beccles of all places today - arts, crafts & guitars! sells homemade jewellry, pots etc but also has some 'vintage' guitars out the back...very strange. anyway.... there was a nice Musicmaster in there, looked to have a fair bit of mojo, nicely aged, was a dark wood natural body (walnut?). no price on it but the rest of the stuff he had was reasonably priced. maybe worth a look as its reasonably local to Naaarwich peace c

Promoters/Bookers/Venues - Reviews and Opinions
3V17C replied to The Funk's topic in General Discussion
quite a good idea for maybe a sticky topic -perhaps split into regional areas. good venues bad venues ones to avoid contact numbers etc with explanations of experiences. whys and wherefores : don't pay up, tiny stage space, 10 flights of stairs all those kind of things peace c -
a good wireless too the AKG
One thing I can add is that the Pad button feeds straight into the valve. The gain control is actually situated after that valve. therefore, you can actually overdrive it with a hot bass with the gain control on zero! .
ah that explains alot about it peaking out so damn much then! hmmm.... i'll have another play with it at next rehearsal - meantime looks like I'll stick to the trusty Trace although it doesn't sound quite as nice :-( also... any recommendations for a line driver type thing? - ideally rackable... did a quick google but without much luck c
