1. I had one for a year or so. There's very little in the way of containment for anything other than the bass. There's a large flat zip pocket on the front, but you won't get anything in there except for a cable or a book of charts. There's nowhere to carry tuners, or a strap etc. Also the piping or whatever you call the stuff that runs around the seems split all the way around.
2. They're brilliant pickups. Used by pretty much all of the top boutique bass builders.
3. Unused stainless steel set. Gauges 130, 105, 085, 065, 045. £16.50 posted.
4. I once told someone that I had a police record. The look on his face was comical. I then said Synchronicity. He hadn't heard of it. Cue rather embossing explanation that it was the name of an album by a band called the police.
5. I know a bass playing fireman.
6.
Quite tempted to give these a try. I occasionally use drop D - anyone use them with this? Do they hold tension/tone well detuned?
They're quite low tension.
7. ERBs always get the same reaction. I think your bass looked amazing. I'd love to try something with more than 6 strings.
8.
I think he has extremely effective PR working for him
Hope they get paid up front !
9. Maybe he's Ill ? At the same time even if he is ill, he surely has advisors. Also like someone pointed out on Facebook, it's pretty unusual to just wake up one morning owing $53 million. There was a point where it was 'only' $5 million etc, etc.
10.
By "floppy" I mean low tension. Thanks for tip on the deal.
Yeah, I've read before that they're low tension. I've never had a chance to compare them with others though. I've also only ever used them on 35" scale basses, so that may make a difference.
11. I've never seen a black one, and they usually have matching headstocks.
12.
.... nice! string spacing 18 / 19mm ?
I think it's something like 21mm.
13. He's always come across as a bit of an idiot. This just proves it. I've never knowingly heard his music, but doubt I'm really missing anything.
14.
You could start right here on "Bass Chat". http://basschat.co.uk/cp/2-shop/
He said cool 😊.
15. Korg Micro Keys are pretty good, if you want something with lots of keys, but at the same time is compact.
16. I'm intrigued by these. I've heard of them, then I saw a photo by Dave Swift on Facebook, now Steve Lawson has one. I've been looking at them on youtube, and they sound amazing. They're way out of my price range though. Is there anything much cheaper that comes close to the sound of these ? Here's Steve's pic from Facebook, it looks lovely doesn't it ? 17.
Boiling strings, IMO, is a myth that just keeps propagating. I tried it in my younger days and it didn't work very well. Folks more experienced than I suggest that if anything it shortens the life of your strings.
That's what I think too. Boiling the strings may clean them, It won't fix the strings where they've got hammered and ground against the frets.
18.
Having been diagnosed with Aspergers last November it finally made sense why I always hated gigging so much.
I wouldn't say that I hated it. I'm fine with the actual playing bit. It's the beforehand, interval and afterwards that I don't like. The bits where you have to socialise I guess 😊. This is when it gets awkward if I've not met the guys before. I'm happy to just wonder off and grab a coffee, sit somewhere and drink it. I find idle chit chat extremely difficult. I only play jazz gigs now though. There's no pressure to be a performer.
19. Again I've never heard of them. But it's terribly sad news. I honestly couldn't count the amount of times that I've driven home from a gig at 2,3 or 4 o'clock in the morning. I guess it's a hazard of the occupation ? Wasn't Marcus Miller's coach involved in an accident ?
20. I always found that they sounded great on their own, but rubbish in a band. I figured that was why Mark King did all that slap stuff so's he could be heard.
21.
I have some on my Buzz and they are so unique in feel and sound. Had them for years and I find the tension has increased slightly, less of that floppy feel. Was wondering about putting them on a 6 string 34.5 scale fretted which has magnetic and piezo pickups. Any thoughts?
I've never really found them to be floppy, but I've never tried any others. I use them on my 6 string, get them from DV247 or thomann, they're about £30 less than anywhere else.
22. I had two 5 string Fenders 3 or 4 years ago. One was a Marcus Miller the other an American standard. Both had neck pockets that weren't cup properly. They were too wide and cut funny. Both had string through body option, and had little cup things in the body holes that fell out when you took the strings out. The US standard just felt cheap. The Marcus Miller was nicer but not worth the money that it originally cost.
23.
I can see why some of you chose this stay home option. It's less work. I say if you don't like gigging your really not in this. Blue
Not in what ? There's more to making music than playing gigs. Kate Bush for instance hated gigging. It's quite possible to enjoy making music in a band without doing gigs.
24. I know a guy who uses a Sei headless, he uses guitar gig bags.
