So last Thursday was new fretless 6 string Roscoe day. It was also new (old) piano day. I've wanted an upright piano for as long as I can remember. I found a guy selling one on eBay just 5 miles away from where I live, and he was offering delivery. So I bid, and won it for £2 . It's rather old, and has character . But I love it. I was unfortunately unable to get it upstairs to where I have my studio set up, so it's downstairs, meaning I can only record late at night after everyone else has gone to bed. However, I'm very pleased with the results [url="https://soundcloud.com/an-ending-ascend/19a/comment-280188406"]https://soundcloud.com/an-ending-ascend/19a/comment-280188406[/url] I'm recording it using the built in mic in my Apogee, then adding reverb and delay in Logic Pro. I think sometimes, there's the temptation to play too many notes in stuff, I guess also, you can play too few ? Here I think I've got it about right, especially given some of the comments that have been left.

While I agree that an employer, in this case the Royal Opera company, has a duty of care to it's employees, you do also have to look out for yourself. I've never played in or with an orchestra, but I've heard more than my fair share, and played in ensembles with brass, and they can be extremely loud.

I'd like to try a set of the new Dunlop flats, nowhere seems to have a C string though.

I would advise to just go to as many shops as possible, and try as many as you can. With regard to the string spacing, it's essentially down to technique. I know guys who play 7 and 9 string basses, they don't have 8 inch long fingers.

I think you can say the same about a lot of demo videos. Why the need to slap ?

Sometimes it's eq more than volume. Trace Elliot gear with than horrible, inherent smily face eq may sound nice on its own, but soon gets lost in a band situation. I did 30 or so jazz gigs with a tiny Phil Jones 75 watt combo. Admittedly not huge venues, but still typical of most gigs that guys on here do, art galleries, marquees and pubs. I never had a problem with being heard, possibly because of its ultra clean sound ?

I had a Mayonnes 6 string a few years ago. Amazing basses.

The TC Hall of fame is about the best that I've tried. You can download various tone prints too, such as the Steve Lawson one.

Personally I've only heard of 2 of them. Namely Tina Weymouth and Carol Kaye. That's probably more to do with my musical tastes, than their lack of talent or lack of influence. I just saw it on Facebook and thought it may be of interest to others.

I use my right hand thumb, and fingers 1, 2 and sometimes 3 depending on the voicing. Stanley Clarke uses a flamenco style strum. It all really depends on what you want to achieve by it I guess.

I think I was meant to own this bass. I originally tried it back in December last year. I really liked it, loved the sound and feel of it, but couldn't decide whether to make a fretless my only bass. So I ended up buying a different bass. Fast forward 3 months, the other bass has gone, and this is now with me 😊. It's now string with a set of TI flats, and if anything it's actually better than I remember it being. Probably my favourite bassist is Steve Lawson, this gets me his trademark fretless sound that I love.

If you were a guitarist then I guess I can see the logic. As a bassist then it's not something I'd do, the rest of the strings would be tuned in 4ths, then you'd have this odd major 3rd. I play guitar too, but just mentally adjust when it comes to playing notes on the B string.
