1.
Lost tax revenue was how I understood it
Still a drop in the ocean when compared to what G4S, Amazon and google etc don't pay.
2.
I didn't think you could get a tax rebate if it was your hobby. If you can then I'm going to claim a tax rebate for all the things I buy to enable me to race. All that's required is a diary showing gigs and payments and recipts of all your outgoings. I think you can even claim for mileage to and from rehearsals, MP3 downloads, and any other 'equipment', but only against offsetting payments for gigging to demonstrate that it's a hobby. You can't offset the loss you make against your day job taxes unless you're a self employed full time musician of course and then you're actively trying to make a profit.
I'd be surprised if you couldn't, I'm not an expert, but I don't think it makes a difference if it's your hobby, you're still getting an income from it. It's surprising what you can claim each year, stage clothes, suits, black trousers etc, strings and other equipment, software, I can even deduct my Mmus fees, which are classed as personal development.
3. It doesn't really bother me tbh. I get cash for gigs, and for teaching, it's all paid into my bank. I make a trip down a couple of times a week. I don't use cash for anything, personally I dislike carrying money, I love contactless . I'm of the opinion that the government should first of all look at the dodgy dealings of Google, Starbucks's, Amazon, G4S and the myriad other tax dodging corporations, before picking on people out earning what are in actual fact very little amounts, and when transport costs, and equipment purchases are taken into account, they probably run into a loss anyway.
4. I don't think it's unreasonable to be asked to pay something. They are providing a service after all, a service where they have spent time marketing your instrument, and have probably answered enquiries about it.
5. His live shows are apparently pretty spectacular.
6. In excellent condition. Four of them, all 6 inches long. These: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Jim-Dunlop-Angled-Instrument-Guitar/dp/B01FHW5N7U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499530189&sr=8-1&keywords=mxr+patch+cable £15 including postage.
7. Richard Barbieri this evening in Birmingham .
8.
D'addario's cable systems are very good. I'd recommend those!
Thanks, I like their stuff a lot, I'll check them out 😊
9. What's a good one? Must be solder less, I can't solder. My board looks a complete mess at the moment. I've seen this one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rayzm-Solderless-Pedalboard-Noiseless-Instrument-x/dp/B01M1KPJFS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499522328&sr=8-1&keywords=pedalboard+cable+kit Thanks .
10.
So why not get them to pay using this? Doesn't cost them any more - why would they decline? Scared of being scammed?
It'll be a hacked account, or a stolen or cloned credit card that they're using. My mom had her card cloned at a petrol station a few years ago. When she got her statement through, there were lots of £1 transactions to iTunes taken from it, this is done to check the card is still valid.
11. I always state cash on collection only, no other arrangement will be entertained, in capitals on the advert. I've actually met some very nice people who've bought stuff from me through Gumtree, you just need to be sensible.
12. If someone pays via Paypal, then the item has to be sent to the address held by Paypal, using a tracked and signed for service, which is why you can enter a tracking number on Paypal when you despatch it. If someone collects, then there's no proof of delivery. They turn around and say it wasn't received, Paypal gives them their money back. I've had it where they say they can't collect because they're ill, they usually say they've got cancer or something horrible like that. Don't play around with them, just delete their texts and ignore them. These are criminals, not people to be messing with.
13. I think he just uses a reverb pedal and a radial tone bone. He's an Aguilar endorsee, so maybe look on their website.
14. S T I L L A V A I L A B L E 😊
15. There was a lady who came to audition for a jazz collective that I play for. Lovely lady, very friendly etc, but a hopeless singer. Songs in one key were too high, down a semi-tone too low.
16.
There are probably fewer singers than even bass players who have had any formal training in their chosen discipline, and thus do not have the technical know-how as to how to use their instrument (the voice...). Good singers can, indeed, choose the range in which to perform, and match their voice to the song (within limits, naturally...). Lessons would solve most, if not all, the issues one has with many singers, I reckon, but try convincing some of 'em of that..!
You're absolutely right. At uni the vocalists used to spend ages going through warm up exercises before singing. They would never just get up and grab a mic.
17. Depends how good they are at singing. There are singers, and there are people who sing, the two aren't necessarily the same.
18. The most you can draw will be whatever fuse you've got in the plug, maybe 13a?
19. I played on one a few years ago. They don't mind you drinking, you actually got a discount for drinks. I don't drink anyway.
20. First time I've seen an ugly Wal.
21. Life is a journey.
