When I was at uni I did a teaching module as part of my final year. Part of that was visiting schools to observe classes, we had to get a DBS check then through an umbrella organisation, which the university arranged.

Welsh NHS aren't, they were unaffected. It's down to lack of finding with the NHS. The government were warned about it, but chose to ignore the warning. I don't understand why windows doesn't work the same as my MacBook. If I download an app that's not from the App Store, then it won't automatically open and run it. Why can't Microsoft do the same?

It's absolutely nothing to do with being professional or otherwise. It's all to do with practicability and money. If I'm catching the train to Bristol for a solo gig, like I am in a few weeks, I'm not going to be able to take 2 of everything with me, and yes I said a solo gig, so even more important that everything works. I recently played 2 gigs in a Paris, it's just not practical or cost effective to have 2 of everything. I own one bass, one of each pedal, one amp, one MacBook. Imagine the expense of duplicating that? But, I lpoj after everything that I use, I do carry spare leads and batteries. I've never ever broken a string and can't ever see it happening. One thing I am going to start carrying a spare of is my Ebow, I dropped it after my last set in Paris. I managed to fix it and glue back together, but I do need a spare. What size venues are you guys playing? To be able to store all this spare gear, amps and basses in cases. With my jazz gigs there's often just about enough room for the band. I certainly wouldn't be leaving spare stuff in a car in the car park.

Fur me st least membership is extremely useful. I wanted a dbs check for my teaching. You can't do this as an individual, but the MU will do it for you. There's also the free insurance which is good. They did help me a few years ago with a contact too. They also do regular seminars and workshops that you can attend.

This is why I won't have anything bigger than a pedal shipped to me. Even if it requires a day out somewhere, I'd rather that than risk all of this. I recently went from Birmingham to Carlisle to collect my Overwater. I had a nice day out with my mom and dad, and the train fare was only £35.

D'Addario maybe? I use their strings, and have done for ages, both on 6 string bass with a high C, and a 7 string. They have quite a selection of gauges to choose from including both wound and plain C strings.

They do sell flat wound banjo strings, a loop end would be fine.

A slightly bizarre request . I'm still searching for a flat wound high F string. I was just reading a thread on a site, someone wondering why string manufacturers make mandolin and banjo strings almost twice as long as they need to be. So I'm wondering just how long are they? If anyone plays banjo or mandolin, and they happen to have a set of flat wound strings lying around, could they measure them please? The string gauge needs to be something like a .025, or thereabouts.
