He plays guitar-style riffs, predominantly using signal splitting, pitch transposition and distortion to create the sound of a guitar playing root/fifth/octave power chords, along with a unison bass part an octave underneath. You can be as pedantic as you want about the name of his role based on the specific instrument he's playing - but that won't make him a bass player. Like I said, I have nothing against this band & their style of music - in fact I'm glad to see a new rock band coming through & getting attention. I just think the attention's based on their gimmick, not the somewhat dated & unremarkable music they play. J.
i play guitar style riffs in my band? does that make me not a bassist? i wouldnt say there stuff is dated? its heavy rock. but everyone has there opinion i also think thats something thats made ppl take alot of love and hate, gets a band noticed andy
Nothing wrong with them, but apart from having a guitarist playing a bass through a pitch transposer, they sound pretty much like any/every other basic garage rock band from the last 40+ years. But I'm old, jaded & a bit gimmick-averse. To my ears, they'd be better if the guitarist played a guitar, and they got a proper bassist. But then they'd still be playing the student uni & not getting Brit Awards, wouldn't they? Jon.
hes not a guitarist, i do get that they arent for everyone. andy
I've borrowed a Line6 Spider combo off my guitarist but fancy an Orange Tiny Terror stack to much my AD200b and OBC115
I've been looking at fender twins and vibrolux combos
-
Very impressed with the switchblade + Quality pedal for the price point
yeh i cant wait to try it out, if it goes well im gonna looking at getting a permanent guitar amp andy
If going for the traditional Fender sound - albeit with the QPs - 250s are what they have. But I`d recommend getting a wiring look from our very own Ki0gon - quality parts, very well put together, all you have to do is turn a couple of screws, no soldering required. And he`ll also advise on what values to get, for example if you want a much toppier or warmer sound.
this a million times! andy

Ever turned a band down cos of tunings?
0175westwood29 replied to spectoremg's topic in General Discussion
Cameronj279' I've left a band because of guitarists not owning a tuner/refusing to use one because "my ears are better". MB1. ...This! At a audition I'd used a Boss Tuner and offered it to the guitarist And due to his guitars volume he responded (after waving said tuner at him.) "No your alright mate,I tune by ear, you must be out!" ...and with that I picked up my gear and was!
i just make them not having a tuner a joke until they went and got one. andy -
Bought a wiring kit for my vm squier, after buying a pbass with one of johns kits in it. went for the dual stacked volume/tone, awesome product and an awesome dude! Andy

use the green tortex picks, they are the perfect size and for what i do, ive used the triangle versions and they are really good as they have 3 playing edges. but i did learn something from watching nolly getgood, if you have a slightly thinner pick then it can kind of act as a comp and flex a bit if you hit the string to hard, i actually think there is some truth to this my sound is more even with the .88 rather than a 2mm. andy

sounds very nice, i just got a bass whammy and a ehx switchblade plus to experiment with doing something like this! andy
Seriously considering a CTM-100. How do you guys that play them think they hold up on stage volume wise? How far do they go into distortion if we were talking about the sort of volume typically put out when using FOH? I like some break up and always play with full PA support, usually with an Ashdown 610
from playing thru my 810 with gain and master at about 12 id say it was a nice warm light overdrive, but i have hot guitars and use the low input, they get nice and dirty tho at not crazy volume, unless you max both gain and volume, then its a bit much. i think ive posted this but this is were i show how dirty it gets thru my 810 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUMx-foXvLI
Glad you're getting on well! I'd love to have an 810 but just don't have the room (or the means to move it)! I think even a 4x10 would be a struggle for me. Maybe new car should be top of my new gear list...
the sound of the 810 for me is worth the hassle of moving it, but with the rear handles and big chucky good quality castors its not to bad. andy
How're you getting on with the CTM? I really love mine. Merton is a traitor and has bought a BTA 200 but I bet it's amazing
Love it beasty amp! not as crazy heavy as other valve heads being only 100w, if i needed clean id want to grab a 300 but as i dnt need clean then this is perfect! especially as i play thru an 810. andy
Ahh got my rig, on to Ampeg now from Orange. just a few more peggles to purchase. I'm after tone I got in the studio, plus some pitch trickery. No stereo things goin on, just a mint blend of direct clean, maybe chuck a sansamp in there, and my filthy pedals as a second chain. Maybe a third chain for more control over pitch. If it'll sound like arse through 1 amp though I'm not gonna bother. Don't trust most sound engineers to mix my sound haha.
i have thought about a two amp rig but same as you i worry that a sound guy really wouldnt get it, im going to do it on recording my bands next ep. but live it might be a pain! andy

indeed i think exeter seems like a good place to put something on anyone got a venue?
the chorus into the fuzz is awesome! cant get enough of it Tom also increased the gain available on the fuzz, so the normal max gain is around 3 o'clock and then i can push it a bit further for some super swelled out phat phuzz
its awesome innit! its always on and gets put with different fuzz and dirt pedals to suit. only one that its off for is the heliotropic.
Just took delivery of this monster!! ""Midoctachoruzz" Custom Bass Multi-Effects This pedal is totally stupid... and that's why I love it. With a T-65 Octave, analogue chorus and Grand Tarkin Bass Fuzz together in a series loop, all in parallel with a mid-humped clean blend you are not going to get a nice subtle "I just want a little bit of amp-like breakup when I dig in" kind of sound. You've got a pedal for that already, it's cool. This pedal has a knob labelled "Honk" and totally gets away with it. Built specially for Ant Wright of Brawlers in a joint bid to make some nasty sounds on Radio 1 and festival stages this summer. Winner."
i approve of this greatly! beast of a pedal. i have the chorus on all the time on my "Red 5" andy

Dependant on time and how far away it is I'm south brent count me in can bring my pedal board and a few basses, also probs my ctm 100, but defy ctm 15
Anyone else had much of a play with these yet? Sibob, any updates on how yours is treating you, or have I missed a seperate thread? One of these is really starting to work its way onto my want list, as I want as close to an OC2 but with more options if possible, and love Toms work.
My red 5 pedal has the t65 in it, apart from the effects loop, I use it sparingly in our set but it's an awesome octave very thick and full and the filter is really cool can be synth filth if you need it.

been married since may and havent noticed my ring getting in the way at all! and mine is quite a large ring about 6mm wide andy

So finally got to use this in a band practice! an amazing amp, such a fat sound, it cuts really well! i dnt mind that the eq isnt going to give me massive changes as i dnt need it to! it sits in the mix and takes pedals really well, throw some thick fuzz at it and it just becomes a beast!
