I remember helping a friend of my dad's move house. One of the other helpers was a professional removal man and he used a loop strap around his shoulders and heavy stuff to move it. He seemed to be able to shift really big stuff quickly and very carefully. Is this a standard removals trick? Is there any reason why nobody seems to do this with heavy cabs and combos? I currently just have a small, portable practice amp and want to get a feel for what I should be able to shift without breaking my ever less limber body. I have had a look in the wiki but there doens' t seem to be anything about safe lifting - tips and tricks... Thanks in advance.

Nasty one. I think I would go for the superglue but I would try to check it out with a doctor (one of those that I know as a friend rather than my GP). There are dedicated products that might be a bit safer, like New Skin. You have to do something, even if it's just a waterproof plaster, or you'll be a bleeding mess on the night.

Blues is ruined by people who think simple = easy. There are thousands, possibly millions of players who can pour out torrents of notes but very few who can really hold your attention with just a few well chosen and beautifully played ones.

Is it sacrilege to suggest you fill out the set with standards and work up the originals when you really do have the time?

On a bit of a different tack from the responses above... With regard to the speed, there is only one bullet-proof approach that works for increasing speed, in just about any musical context: 1. Slow it down to get the accuracy/creativity. 2. Overspeed it to really stress test your lines. 3. Wind down to the true speed. If that didn't work, repeat.

That's exactly what I thought when I read the BGM article. Simple, striking to look at, something that does the job well. Or it's the bass your teacher might suggest you buy when you show that you have some commitment to playing bass but your bass is a bit cheap and nasty.

I went to see the James Taylor Quartet in York on Friday and it was absolutely fantastic. I could waffle on about virtuoso talent but that wasn't the point - the point was brilliant entertainment from start to finish. And [url="http://www.myspace.com/mckinneyandrew"]Andrew McKinney[/url] is a monster on bass. I shall be paying more attention to his Bass Guitar Magazine column from now on. Go and see them if you get the chance.
