1. Many thanks Keith. I didn't really know what to expect and haven't been to anything like this before. With a young family, I don't have much money for new kit and, as a rule, I would rather play music than talk about it. However, I had a great time, met great people, played basses that opened my mind about what a bass could be like. I am sure Scott Devine has a 2nd career as a motivational speaker around the corner. Talk about about somebody seizing their opportunities!?! What a great seminar that was. I started the day with a deep suspicion of Mark Bass but finished the day being blown away by the fabulous sound of Scott playing 5-string Zon (model?) through the Mark Bass 12" combo (121P?). I love that VLE control. Scott was a bit upset because the Markbass combo was threatening to outshine his own kit Bass of the day for me: Keith's Ampeg baby bass. Thank you everybody, in fact, for letting play with your basses and amps and for making it such a great event.
2.
Don't be fooled. Its crap. Captain Smith and Pochahontas? What the hell is THAT all about
Thanks for saving me wasted time. Now I can get back to Moondance
3. Get some gigs and use that money to pay for more lessons?
4.
You can see the look on his face as his goes 'oh sh*t' haha. That's not a big mistake though, at least they didn't just.. stop.
Absolutely. I would say this is a lesson from a master on how to get away with a bum note.
5. Telemann Sonata in F maj (no II). Sight reading from Note Reading Studies for Bass.
6. I got one of the 15" combos. Mmmm... No more needing to borrow an amp ... but I might be asked to lend it.
7. I had some interest but it didn't seem to go anywhere. I am willing to be pretty flexible about the price
8. I am interested in one of the 15" combos. I can lay my hands on about £300 now and could scrape together more given time. I had better come clean and admit I don't really know what they are worth - this will be my first proper amp and I am going on recommendations rather than personal experience. Can we work something out?
9. I have a Peavey Max126, including manual. It has had light use for the last 4 years but it doesn't work. I think it just needs a new valve since it makes some feeble, horribly distorted noises. If left to me, it will take me for ever to get around to fixing it because I have a Line6 Studio110. So it needs to go off to a better place with somebody who will love it.
10. Slim neck is very stable with two truss rods.
11. Dear all, It's time to move on my Adam Black B-10 Acoustic Bass. I won it here on basschat after Machines reviewed it: http://basschat.co.u...showtopic=14339 There's another review here: http://www.performing-musician.com/pm/apr0...amblackbass.htm I have been keeping it with a Hayseed Dixie kind of project in mind but it's not happened so far and I would probably end up on mandolin in that project anyway... It's still as shown in the pictures in the review thread, apart from the strings, which are a bit tired and will need replacing (no they are not the originals!). I have added a budget gig bag and I am looking for £200.
12. By the way, the five knobs are overall volume, bass, mid (stacked with mid sweep), high and pick-up balance
13.
Bump for a nice bass and a smashing fella. Good luck with the sale mate
Thanks for the endorsement. I didn't mention the Neutrik locking jack socket, which is a nice touch and very practical (if confusing to the uninitiated )
14. It's time for me to move on my Ibanez BTB555. I am not playing it any more because I bought Neil's fabulous Stingray. It's a great bass but I prefer the old school Stingray sound to the modern Ibanez. It's a lot of bass for the money and I think it would really suit somebody who is teaching but doesn't want to have a really valuable bass in the back of their car all the time. Or it could be an introduction to 5-string. The B string is very good, which is not typical for Far East basses. It comes with a good hardcase and the current set of Ernie Ball slinky strings. Any questions, go ahead and post them or PM me. And you can find the specifications and reviews on the internet for an independent view I bought it from Tinman via basschat's predecessor. I honestly can't remember how much I paid but it was in the region of £300 and I am looking to get the same. Here are the pictures:
15. I agree completely with what the others wrote. I just want to emphasis what an inspirational teacher Geoff is. He will get the most out of you and then a bit more than you expected
16.
just sold my Stingray to Nick, great guy to deal with & he didn't try to beat down the agreed price either---top bloke.
Thanks for the feedback Neil. I have updated the busier looking of your feedback threads
17. I just bought the Stingray the above pickup came out from (when it was upgraded to a Nordstrand). It's a fabulous bass and Neil is a true gent. If anybody else ends up looking at one of Neil's basses, you can buy with confidence
18. Have the bailiffs been in and cleaned you out yet or is this still available?
i need this to go asap folk 175? x
19. Thanks for that suggestion but I didn't get anywhere with it.
20. Can anybody remind me where that Anthony Jackson impersonation video is? Is it on youtube? I feel sure somebody here pointed me at it. Some player, himself very capable, claims to be Anthony Jackson while spewing forth a flurry of notes from his single cut bass. Ring any bells?
21. 'Nowhere to run' from the transcription in Standing in the Shadows of Motown
22. People spend £5000 on a car to get to and from gigs and that car will be worth nothing in 10 years time, possibly 5. After 30 years, this bass could be worth more in real terms and certainly won't have lost that much value. If you're a professional and it helps you do your job, there is nothing wrong with the price. Personally I hate the thing but I have nothing against hand crafted high end basses.
23.
Looked Fender to me but that could be any number of basses. N yeah the Who really weren't that great. I'm starting to think they should quit now, Townshend reminded me of Van Morrison...(which i dont think is the look he wants)
They weren't that great but they had fun and they played their part in the main event. It's a bit of an odd gig, playing the Super Bowl half time.
