The thing is I have yet to rehearse with this band, first time I met them was at the venue for the first gig! There are no sheets/charts, so was a character building experience! Seems like they're likely to offer me more gigs (already got a couple booked), in which case a rehearsal so I can try the backing vocals in a less pressured environment doesn't feel too unreasonable!

Based on the trailer, I'm not holding out much hope. The celeb cameos feel like a portent of doom to me. I'm not sure that ever works, does it? I really do hope it turns out to be decent.

Thanks all, I guess like any new skill you just have to apply yourself consistently and accept you'll be crap to start with. It's not so much the technicalities of singing (although I'm no singer, sadly) it's the working out how my brain can learn to unlink the singing from the playing bit.

I'm reaching out to the BC community in the hope that some amongst you will have been the process and can offer some advice. For years I've managed to avoid singing backing vocals, but I've begun depping for a band and it's clear it would be beneficial if I could add a bit of vocals on choruses etc. Problem is I've never been able to sing and play at the same time! When I play I feel so mentally 'locked in' that I struggle to even speak or respond off someone talks to me, let alone sing 😂 Strumming an acoustic I can sort of do it, but bass feels like a wholly different challenge. I've been playing for years, so it's quite a way into my playing career to learn, but for those of you that have been through similar, how did you crack it?! How ever McCartney, Lee etc do it is beyond me?!!

That is a large increase! Did they explain why (sorry if you've explained elsewhere, sneaky work-based forum browsing!)?

Would be interested to hear what you've been quoted! In my view a lot of instrument setup work has been undervalued over the years, and these days a guitar setup is one thing that you can't really buy off the internet. I always think about how much time a job is likely to take, how much do I think it's reasonable for a skilled person (who's also taking liability for my instrument whilst on their care) to charge for that time?

Thanks for posting this. Long time fan of Living Colour and Doug Wimbish. I know Vernon Reid's playing style divide opinions in guitar circles, but I have long admired his very dark sound and unique approach. Love Muzz Skillings' playing on the first couple albums too. Very peased but not surprised that they still sound so good. Unique band in the rock space.

So long as it intonates correctly at the 12th fret, it personally wouldn't concern me in the slightest if intonation at the 24th was marginally out when measured with a tuner. In fact, given all the potential variables, I'd be surprised indeed if it happened to me perfect, but maybe that's just me?!! None of that helps you at all, but what I'm saying is, I suppose, is that do you think the buyer's expectation is reasonable? It's good of you to be concerned, but you've no idea about their level of competence. Definitely check the string though!!

To sort of expound on this, I do personally think "PAT" testing does have some value, but as preforming musicians, I think that by and large, we look after our gear. Now, an amp in a rehearsal room I would always treat with healthy caution As others have alluded to, my biggest concern would always be the state of the venue's electrical installation!

Before it came into use as a ' substitute' for rosewood, I'd always assumed pau ferro was a premium option, seeing it on Sadowskys and higher spec Fenders (such as SRV strat) etc. I've never owned a bass with a pf board, but I from what I've heard suspect I would like it!

Truly first class work. The bass looks beautiful.

Either what Lozz said, or try some cheaper pickups and see what you think? I put a Tonerider in the neck position of my 70s Jazz as getting a bit broke but wanted to replace the ole DiMarzio bridge pup someone had shoehorned in there. I should qualify this by saying that I've never been shy of spending on gear. I want expecting much, but it honestly sounds excellent.
