  2. I've just been through this process with an old case that smelt mouldy/ musty. Febreeze was a misstep in my case (excuse the pun), although anecdotally others have had success. I felt it made it worse (like spraying deodoriser to disguise bad toilet smells), but it's quite likely I executed it poorly. The only thing that worked was a combination of judicious vacuuming of the insides and exposure to direct sunlight/ airing in my garage. I realise this doesn't help you much, but I didn't think the smell would ever go and it's completely tolerable now after a concerted effort.
  3. Good luck with the surgery. I broke my collarbone some years back after face-planting off my mountain bike! I am also the veteran of many broken bones. I was lucky that the collarbone displacement didn't require surgery, but if they pin yours, then theoretically you might be able to do some lighter activity a little sooner. The critical thing as, everyone else is saying, is speak to your consultant and follow their advice. Don't jeopardise your recovery by pushing it too soon. In the grand scheme of things the weeks you may be out of action are just the blink of an eye, and you'll return to the bass even more motivated to get playing!
  4. Re. the 21/22 fret thing for slap preference, I feel the same way. It's too do with where your hand ends up relative to the end of the fingerboard. Feels more comfy and easier to stay loose than on a 24, in general. To me at least. It does depend on the bass
  5. Yep, same here. Another legend gone, RIP and thanks for the music.
  6. Unless I've missed something, this was a custom order; perhaps the OP wanted it there?
  7. Looks very respectable, and I still find it remarkable that you can even get a functioning instrument at that price, yet here we are! Enjoy it, and my advice re the extra string: stick with it and say some point it will just click!
  8. My experience similar to yours. I loved both of the Wals I had, but I'm not sure now if it was just because I'd wanted one for so long. The MK1 was the better playing and sounding, but ergonomics really didn't suit me. The MK2 5 was a bit better ergonomics-wise for me, but things like the strings being so far from the body (and I run v low action) never felt right to me, but I realise that's a personal preference. I miss the recorded/direct sound, they certainly have a unique thing going on.
  9. ASAT bass already does that! I loved mine, apart from the dreadful neck dive which I ultimately couldn't live with. Amazing sounding bass that was. These days I'd keep it for recording/home use but didn't have the luxury back then
  10. But I quite like the headstock 😂
  11. I actually quite like the headstock. Not played the Tributes but have had 3 US over the years, ASAT and SB1 basses and a Legacy 6 string. I regret parting with them all, although I wouldn't go back to the ASAT bass because of the body shape discomfort/neck dive on a strap. The build quality was very good on all, would be sad to see them go, but as others have suggested, in the crowded marketplace of today, it's easy to understand how they might be struggling.
  12. I got mine from Strings Direct. Exactly the same (as far as I could see) as the original in my late 80s Stingray.
  13. Thank you, sounds like it's me being daft! Will revisit.
  14. Thanks Jimbo, appreciated! I've played around with the high and low gain/mix settings, which obviously helps somewhat even out the volume drop. It's just the jump is so stark! I almost certainly do need to play about with a bit more.
  15. I’ve had one of these for what seems like forever but removed it from my pedalboard years ago (can’t remember why), and had forgotten about it completely. For some reason I remembered its existence the other day and set out to find it, not thinking it would likely work any longer. Anyway, I plugged it in, and it works fine. It actually sounds stunningly great and I plan to get it back onto my pedalboard. Really evens out the B string response on my 5 string. Is anybody else still using one of these, and if so, do you find the output level drops dramatically when you bypass it? Mine does this, even if switching between active and passive input levels. As I type this I wonder if that’s why I eventually removed it actually. The thing is, I like how it sounds, but it does seem to scoop the tone a bit, so not sure I’d have it on all the time. Not sure the build quality was the best on these, so perhaps mine has a defect. It has got to be getting on for 20 years old.
  16. It is weird! I was going to say that with round core especially, make sure you've got a nice strong bend in the string before cutting so the core can't 'slip', but it's odd that the others were ok, suggesting you'd likely done that. Don't want to teach you to suck eggs etc
  17. Does boutique just mean expensive, or does it just mean doesn't look like a Fender etc? Or maybe if it could look like a Fender, but it has a figured top. But what if it has a fancy top but wasn't expensive (relatively) and is a Fender? What if I can get someone to make me a bass that costs less or the same as an Indonesian import. Is the handmade one still boutique in that case, or does it depend on whether it looks like a Fender? I think I need a shower
  18. One thing I've learned through depping is a greater appreciation of some bass players and lines I'd never have given a second thought otherwise. Being forced to learn material and being exposed to genres out of the usual familiarity zone is also a great way to freshen up the playing, I've found.
