1. I can't see the problem with it, I can't see a 74 Precision having any great future value unless it is in exceptional condition, I am currently trying to shift a 79 Precision on Evilbay, it is not an exceptional bass just another old Precision, despite it being offered way cheaper than anything else of that vintage I have had absolutely no sensible interest in it....I doubt it would decrease the value if I had it refinished in some modernist colour scheme. I think there are the golden years of the Precision which will always go up in value and then there are just Precisions, yes a mint 70's example may have some value but a run of the mill 70's Precision seems to be worth less than a current new example...which to be fair is probably the better instrument
2. I have read a lot on bumph recently about strobe tuners and how the Peterson tuners are 30 times more accurate than other tuners and are even better as they have "sweetened" tuning settings for different instruments. I came upon a Peterson Stomp tuner for a good price recently so brought it, I thought I would see how much better the Peterson actually was so I tuned my bass with the Boss TU2 then swapped the tuners over set the Peterson to the sweetened bass setting and checked the tuning....guess what......the Boss was 100% bang on in tune. So a couple of questions: 1 Peterson, where do you get the claim your strobe tuners at 30 times more accurate than normal tuners? 2 What is this sweetening thing? Big praise to Boss, the TU tuners are hugely popular for a very good reason......anyone want to buy a little used Peterson tuner they are 30 times more accurate than other tuners, so I have heard
3. I will not permit our band to use deps anymore, they tried it once before, against my wishes and it was a disaster, we have all worked really hard to become the unit we are, if you start chopping and changing musicians every other gig, then to me, you are not a band just a bunch of journey men musicians. I am proud of our band and our reputation and will do anything to protect it
4. MDF could be seen as preferably to the work of MDP
5. Nice, I have the matching guitar
6. If you happen to be lucky enough to own an early Fender Precision Lyte you will need to replace the battery every other month without fail, mine is fantastic is gives you precisely no warning what so ever that the battery is dying, literally plugged it in for the sound check it worked perfectly, unplugged it again, went onstage twenty minutes later played the first note and it died! (apparently it is a known fault on these basses and again apparently there is a fix for it but the guy who mentioned it couldn't remember what the fix was!) Still one of my favourite basses but I always have a spare bass close to hand if I am gigging it
7. A fine Stanley Unwin esq description exercising the verbalisms to the highest qualitree
8. I had the strangest gear failure last night, part way through the second set I noticed the E string getting louder and eventually buzzier, I had to tune it back up a couple of times...anyway on closer inspection at the end of the night the E string saddle was flat on the bass plate as both saddle screws had completely unwound....I could understand it if this were a new bass but it is a 10 year old Precision with 100's of gigs behind it and has never had this problem before.... I wonder what would suddenly cause something like that to happen? New bridge on order today
9. Ebay are pretty good at pulling them, they are dead easy to spot.....ultra high end gear at a low starting price and strangely usually with a £24.00 postage charge for some reason. When you report them, it is listing practices, you suspect a listing is fraudulent, you didn't bid on the item...or something like that Ebay will do the rest
10. Very much as above, I am a P bass man but I like to "road test" some different basses, next on my list is a Yamaha BB 1024 or 2024, my only worry is that I might like it too much which would then bring into question whether I keep all of the P basses. I have no kids and a very small mortgage so I am lucky I can afford to rent a few basses that I fancy
11. Providing you have the standard precision pick up shape, the SD will fit but you may end up having to enlarge the scratch plate cut out a little as, from experience, no replacement pickup will be a guarenteed fit
12. I can't remember neck dive being a huge problem with mine, I will have to check the brochure to see if it was available in Sunburst, I have a feeling they were Graphite, Red or Black but I stand corrected
13. I assume the chap knows nothing about guitar colours! I used to own one of these, it was a surprisingly good bass especially for the money they were new, mine was in exactly the same "sunburst" or Graphite finish! 14.
As far as songs go I leave it up to the guitarist and singer. Too many bands where the setlist has caused enough problems to spend anymore time discussing what to play. Tell me what to play. I'll learn it and play it. Job done.
Surely you must draw the line somewhere? We are a punky / indie covers band, when the vocalist started pushing to do "Moves Like Jagger" I threatened to walk....safe to say Moves Like Jagger is not going to be in the set anytime soon
15. Welcome to the human race? It's Elo and Mr Blue Sky. Ok my go "And I'm sitting in the kitchen sink" next line, artist and title too please
16. I doubt he will get into any heaven if he is going to continue "playing" and "singing" I am sure even God would have to draw the line somewhere
17.
Of course you are right. In my youth, venues handled their own ticket sales, or (somewhat straining my memory here) you could get them from some of the independent record shops. I'm not certain whether these shops charged a fee on top of the face value, I think they took their commission out of the face value, or else acted as agents in return for the increased footfall. Ticket-selling then was mainly a local activity, whereas now the Internet has made it global. To me, the worst of it is the lack of any serious attempt to enforce anti-touting measures. A venue is not going to implement any system that slows down punters coming through the door and flocking to the bar to buy overpriced beer in flimsy plastic glasses. I believe Glastonbury has an effective system, although I've never been. I wouldn't mind so much failing to get a ticket if I were 'competing' against other genuine potential gig-goers; in fact the competition is with loads of people buying simply to make an instant mark-up. A while back I tried to buy tickets for a one-off small gig by Robert Plant. I knew my chances were slim so I wasn't too surprised when I didn't get any. I went on eBay straight away, and sure enough immediately found a listing for a pair of tickets at twice the face value. The listing was quite lengthy and detailed, so the seller had obviously prepared it beforehand, then started it running once they'd obtained tickets. People can now become touts in the comfort of their own home! I didn't buy the tickets btw, but they went pretty quickly. Unfortunately, the chances are slim for any legislation (or even a worthwhile industry code) to address online touting. The present government will not do anything to restrict the 'free market' (never mind that it is in fact being distorted) and the industry players are doing quite nicely thank you very much.
I fully agree I see the "Rumours" line up of Fleetwood Mac are touring North America this year......They are the one band Mrs2611 would love to see, I know full well if they do come over here the greedy scumbag touts will see to it that it will be unaffordable to go.......I will start my guess at £140.00 each for tickets and once the oinking touts get in there I can see them being upwards of £500.00 a pop.......even at the start price I very much doubt we would be going
18. I assume it is aimed at those who haven't figured whether they play left or right handed yet......I am sure it won't have a rather limited market then!
19. Google sponsored GAS
20. So If I brought the best amplifier in the world would Kylie actually appear in my living room or would my ears see her only....now I am really confused
21. I don't know if it is just me but, i read the description, then had to go and flush my head down the toilet! 22. I think I will give it a wide berth!
23. I have a feeling it is a 301, I am not sure that colour was available on the 310's but I could be wrong
24. Tanglewood's are OK, I had a Precision copy some years back.....not very exciting but did the job
25. Definitely active, exactly the same knobs and switches as my Thunder III
