You wouldn't go around a guitar shop, spot a really ugly bass and think "wow that's ugly, i might try it". If you want a bass to be THE bass, it has to look nice too, after all, image is everything in a lot of bands. You'd never see a guy in a punk band playing an 8 string conklin would you? Though it is all about getting out and trying stuff.

My old band had it's own PA system... it was a behringer... and it consequently broke (the desk that is), most decent venues have their own, but the places we played didn't, doesn't say a lot for our band i suppose

I've never played a bass that was quieter when you slapped on it... Though to even out your signal in any case you should probably get a compressor just to boost the signal when you start slapping.

I play 2 and 3 and i'm a bit of a 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9 all mixed into one EDIT: i totally got the wrong end of the stick on this one, but there's my contribution, take it or leave it

alright then... And the staff at the bass cellar are w***ers. I don't know if you've seen the numerous threads around here, but if your experience is anything like 99% of ours you won't be going back there. You can go if you want, I suppose if they're nice to you it might be worth the rest of us going in, but personally i wouldn't piss on any of them if they were on fire, and i certainly wouldn't give them any of my custom.

The headstock shape just doesn't look right to me...

I'm not sure if it would do that, it would depend what preamp you put in there, but i think the main idea is to let shape your tone a bit more than to actually colour it. If you wanted a marcus miller sound, get whatever pickups marcus miller uses

Who on earth suggested the bass cellar? Don't go there! Also, go on your own, that way you can take as long as you like trying stuff out without your mate pratting around because he's bored or something.

I usually wait until i find a total feckin bargain and then buy it, they usually come in the form of BINs on ebay that have literally just been listed and nobody else has spotted it yet or friends of mine happen to be selling them... Plus i just tend to be lucky and find the ones i've been looking for. Also basschat is an ace place for getting awesome gear at awesome prices, i wouldn't have two of my basses or my stack if it wasn't for BC As for figuring out what i want, i dunno i go through phases of wanting different stuff, i've now got four basses, and out of them there's pretty much anything i'll ever need. I tend to take risks to be honest though, i bought my musicman sight unseen and having only ever played one SUB bass before unplugged and one other stingray, both a good year + before i bought that one, i got lucky. Same with my jazz, i never really tried one properly, got this one in a trade, sight unseen again, and lucked out again!

Yeah last time we had name tags, seemed a good idea, something we'll be doing again

Not as of yet, just thinking feb time, what day would suit people best? a saturday or a sunday?
