1.
so a standard uk boss wallwart or poedal power supply should work ok, thats what i figured, cheers
Assuming the pedal requires a 9v supply, sure. You might want to find out what voltage the pedal wants first though, to make sure you can get a power supply to match it.
You shouldn't get charged duty if you're buying from inside the EU though, IIRC.
You do still have to pay import duty within the EU, but usually not VAT. I'm buying from the USA so I'm paying both. Just wondered if anyone knew what the import duty rate was. I think I can call them and find out if I remember to call when their helpline office thing is open, which I won't, because I'm rubbish at remembering to do things.
2. Hi, Can any of you boutique pedal fans tell me what the rate of import duty is on effects? I'm looking at the customs website at "common internet goods" and it states 3.7% for guitars, but nothing for amps or effects. Anybody know?
3. Joined: Today Posts: 1 But nobody picks him up on it because he's selling a Wal.
4. FTR I have the same issue with my Stingray and the dimmers in my house. I'm pretty sure there's no earthing issue on the bass because it doesn't buzz anywhere but at home. It's annoying though, because I can't record with the thing at home.
5.
... but Andrew levy (brand new heavies) used them, also he had streamer 5 strings ...
Really? I never saw him playing anything but P basses. Stefan Lessard from Dave Matthews Band also used to swing a Dolphin - it's all over their debut album.
6. There aren't any "traditional"-style basses that look sensible as a five string IMHO - they either look naff and weird or they look modern as a consequence of the fatter neck. I would go with the suggestion above of the L2500, just because it's the most versatile bass you can buy. They're very dull-looking though.
7. When I was growing up there were two guys in my town who owned Wal basses, and they were both fretless. I think - as a result - for the last 15 years I've always assumed that "Wal" means "fretless". I've wanted one for about that long, too, but I can't bring myself to spend so much money on a bass. It would be a walnut-faced Mach I, though, if I ever did buy one.
8.
im only 15 and play in a church band.....lol
Maybe look at an octave pedal, or a chorus, something that adds a bit of body to the bass rather than transforms it. Stamping on a Big Muff and drowning everybody else out with lush fuzzy harmonics probably wouldn't go down too well in the middle of worship.
9.
Don't get hammered before the gig!
+1,000,000 Normal mistake: Playing a bum note. Drunk mistake: Playing the wrong song all the way to the chorus.
10. I would stay away from any bass with a twisted neck, unless you're planning to replace it. AFAIK Ernie Ball will sell you a replacement neck if you send them the knackered one, not sure if you can get any third-party necks for a Sterling but if a Stingray neck will fit it you could get a graphite replacement from Status for £300.
11.
Why you in here then??? you shure you dont have a secret metal desire ?
You asked how many of us play metal. I didn't want you to get the impression that we all do (or even would ).
12. Metal's about the only thing I would refuse to play. Well, that and country. If I had a choice of playing metal, playing country, or shagging Beth Ditto I'd pick country.
13. I don't buy Fenders any more because the two that I did buy both fell to pieces after 6 months of gigging. I would buy an older Fender if I found one I liked, but I would never buy another new one.
14. I used to have one of those Hohners - it was great! I'd turn up to gigs with it, have all the other bands laughing at me while I set up, and watched their jaws drop as soon as they heard it.
15. Hi. Is this for sale to people who don't own a black finger? If so: What sort of price were you thinking of?
16.
The pedals I have are : ... how would users link these in the chain ?
Personally: EHX octave multiplexer EHX bass micro synth qtron EHX black finger compressor Pickle Pie fuzz Wah Boss Bass EQ EHX stereo electric mistress Boss Bass chorus Line6 DL4 delay modeller Again, not sure what I'd do with the EQ. Compressor before fuzz to avoid compressing fuzz, fuzz before wah but after q-tron so you've got envelope options both before and after the fuzz, octave-tracking devices at the start. And I'd stick that BMS (at least) in a true-bypass loop if I were you.
17. Is this the same BassIQ that's been selling to all sorts of people on here for £85 for the last couple of months? Someone keep it for more than five minutes and give the poor thing a chance.

Octaver
It's a great octave, isn't it? especially with two octaves down! I bought an original one in the eighties, brand new as my first ever effects pedal and sold it a couple of years ago for well over £100. I'm glad to hear MI Audio are doing a clone, I might look at it (though I guess it's not cheap in itself)
One went on eBay yesterday for £50-ish. Was considering having it myself but fell asleep...
19.
Amongst the "famous users" cited as having one of these is Hui-Chieh Chien ... wonderfully described as an Over Top Musican. That's what I want to be when I grow up.
Fantastic! Who wouldn't want that next to their name on the album credits.
20. Shame about the "relic"-ness. It's still almost irresistable despite that, though.
21. I was moderately interested until the seller turned out to be in Australia. Put that at the top of the list of things you need to declare when advertising in a forum based on the opposite side of the world.
22. Looks like a fun gig. Love that Streamer - wouldn't dare play it myself.
23. My main bass is a Thumb 4. It's a nice old one (91), I don't know if the newer ones are any different. The neck profile is a bit... unconventional, I agree. But not in a bad way IMO. It has more depth to it, somewhere to put your thumb. Maybe they're better suited to players with longer fingers. I had a Corvette Proline 6 a few years back, that was a bolt-on made in whatever year they started making them (guessing by the two-digit serial number), and I really liked the neck on that, too. It's still the only 6 I've played that felt immediately natural when I first picked it up, but to be fair I don't make a habit of picking up 6-string basses. Horses for courses and all that, but I really like them. I was thinking about buying another one about an hour ago.
24. Current girlfriend's not so keen. She's either silent or patronising. She actually left the house the other day when a friend was over helping me make hilarious laser noises.
