1. There is some discussion of bypassing it at the switch here, although the instructions are not idiot-proof-looking enough for me to have tried it myself yet. I'd rather do this than bypass it with a looper pedal (which is what I'm doing now) because of the reasons you mentioned - I have giant EHX pedal footprints eating all of my board, and babysitting them with loopers just makes things worse. As for the low output level - are you sure you've got the preamp trimpot tweaked correctly? It's a pain to adjust it but if you get it just-so I find the levels are alright if you have at least one slider maxed.
2.
I contacted them a couple of times to see if they would sell me just a neck, which if they were a custom manufacturer they ought to have no problem with. No response. Read into that what you will.
I've emailed them numerous times asking where the **** my bass is - no response. I think the employee who knew how to use a computer must've gone back to college. FTR I ordered a fretless 6 for £79, purely because a friend of mine found a fretless 5 for £89 and I wanted to get 1 more string for less money than he paid. It wasn't about quality at all, it was purely a willy-waving exercise. Every time he calls me now the first thing he says is "Have you got your bass yet?". I hung up on him yesterday when he did it.
3. Try dropping out for a few bars, then coming back in. That's the easiest way to help people appreciate what the bass does. Plus you get time for a suck on your lemonade.
4. Ah yeah. No worries. I've got to visit someone who knows what he's doing to get some work done on another bass anyway so I'll bring this one along with me. Thanks again.
5.
Go on mate, treat ya self! BTW will look at sensible cash offers.
Just wanted to say thanks, this thing's really nice, and amazing condition for its age. Sorry I couldn't stay for tea & biscuits. Sounds like something's not earthed BTW - bit of a buzz going on - I don't suppose you know what/where? I don't mind sorting it out, just wondered if you were aware of it and could point me in the right direction.
6.
It must be one of the most portable full length scale bass ever!
If you can't find a case for it: Shorten the strap as far as it'll go, put it on one shoulder with the bass neck pointing down, then put on your overcoat. You're ready to go to the show. Maybe not so clever these days, especially if you look a bit Brazilian, but it worked for me when I had one.
7. The best cheap bass I ever bought was a Hohner B2A - the cheesy Steinberger clone thing. Attracted smug smirks and chuckles from onlookers until it was plugged in, and then they found out it are serious bass.
8. Is this the same one that's on eBay? I think £400 is a good price but I personally don't like the ash bodies. Shame because I like Warwicks, I'm looking for an unlined fretless and I'm just down the road from you in York. Hope you find a buyer soon.
9. Not often thought of as a bassist, but: Mark Brydon (Moloko) is a really tasteful player.
10. My current main bass - a '91 Warwick Thumb. I did have a US Fender Jazz fretless that I was very fond of in the '90s but it got gigged to death. I'm jealous of the Wal owners in here. I've always wanted one but I don't think I could spend that much money on a bass without feeling hugely guilty about it.
11. Maybe we should organise a coach trip to Hannover. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to find 40-ish people they've ripped off, turn up at their workshop and see if they still don't want to talk.
12. I won one of their auctions for a fretless 6 back on the 1st of December last year. Paid immediately, still no sign of the bass and they stopped responding to my emails on February 25th. I'm considering getting the police involved - it wasn't a lot of money but it's the principle. If it's been less than 45 days since you paid, I would dispute the payment at PayPal. BTW: They're currently trading as hsguitars-spain. I'm guessing their hsguitars-eng account was suspended by eBay so I reported their -spain account this morning.
13. I just don't like listening to songs about dragons and pixies. Call me old-fashioned but I like witty, observant songwriters like Ray Davies, John Lennon, Ian Dury, Elvis Costello, Morrissey, even Alex Turner. Quality pop music. When someone starts banging on about trench warfare or mystical monsters in the underworld they lose me.
14. Very wise. Give me a poke if you do decide to sell it.
15. Ah, fair enough. Can't say I ever liked Helloween. I love the old racing-stripe '80s streamers, but I prefer the two-piece bridge rather than the older style ones. Yours is the only one I've seen that has both those features. Also, all the basses I've owned over the last 10 years have been either Warwicks or had an orange paintjob, but I never found an orange Warwick. I supposed to be buying a fretless though, and I'm not how the idea of two incoming basses would sit with the missus... Anyway good luck with the blue one. I really don't understand why it hasn't gone yet.
16. Wow. Does this blue one bring you bad luck or something? This is a steal. Incidentally; are you still planning to sell the orange one? And -if so - what sort of a price would you want for that?
17.
An immaculate example (case etc.) went on ebay a few weeks ago for 900 euro - OP will be lucky to see £800 on ebay.
Shame. I'd give him 800 squids for it if I didn't already have a '91 Thumb.
18. Is this pedal still for sale? I'm currently using a US reissue Muff + a Boss LS-2 to blend it, which sounds great but takes up a lot of pedalboard. If I like this one I can make room for even more pedals!
19.
You sure that's a Proline ? I thought they had flamed maple tops. That looks like ash to me making it a standard ash model.
I had a Proline 6 in the mid '90s that had a plain white maple body.
20. Thanks! I had checked Maplin but couldn't find them.
21. Those ones from effectpowersupplies.com definitely reverse the polarity - I'm using them on a bunch of EHX reissues. I haven't had one fail on me yet so I'm happy to buy the cheap ones.
22. One of these? Make sure the polarity is correct for your pedal first though - that adapter is positive tip when plugged into a standard negative-tip 9V barrel plug.
23. Hi, I've got some rehousings and other bits and pieces I'd like to do, but I can't find anywhere in the UK that sells a decent range of diecast aluminium enclosures. Does anybody know of anywhere that does? I'd rather not have to buy them in from overseas if I don't have to.
24. I'm looking at fretless 4s at the moment, but it'll be a week or so before the cash trickles in. One question: Is the alignment of the pole pieces a bit off on the neck pup? It looks weird - like both pups are bridge pups?
