being a fan of Bootsy, I have to say this is not him at his best.....and why would anyone want to replicate that sound.

Is anyone bringing a Modern Player Tele bass to the bash? Basically that Matt (Neepheid) has been telling lies about them and I want to play one for myself (please note friendly banter). So if anyone has one and wasnt sure of bringing it then please do

More new Fender models - The 'Modern Player' Series
What a shame, I tried the Tele bass in a shop a couple of weeks back. Now I like an old school sound but it sounded like I had stuffed a bunch of cotton wool in my ears, regardless of pickup selection and tone control wide open. Admittedly I wasn't playing through the greatest of amps, but even artificially cranking up the treble on the amp couldn't lift any high overtones out of the mud, even on the bridge pickup. That's too old school for me!
thats a real shame to hear that Matt. I have been looking at one of these and was hoping to hear some good news. I will keep an eye out to have a shot though as the body and lovely big humbuckers just look amazing. -
god bless the Jag. I have been praising them for years. Sing it loud and proud brothers
Yeah and look at the state of it Id rather have an immaculate 400 quid copy and have bit of fun upgrading it. Also, I quite like the idea of 22 frets. I can see the argument, if a roadworn Rick floats your boat, but Id rather not spend anymore than 400 at this stage
fair point buddy.
Not convinced, I'm afraid. This Career sells for roughly £400, so another £400 would take you up to £800. See how far you get on the second-hand Rik market if you're only waving £800 about. As I write this, the cheapest second-hand Rik on eBay UK is £1200.
and there we go Jack, a quick search on thisforum gets you a Ric 2nd hand for a grand. I was a bit out on the 800quid granted as I got my figures mixed up but still cheaper than 1200 as quoted. sorry folks I dont know where I got that initital figure from.....a grand WILL get you a 2nd hand ric. I know its more than double this knockoffs value, but you will have a real ric at the end of the venture.

MarloweDK to get his own signature model.
munkonthehill replied to Highfox's topic in General Discussion
I always thought the sig models were meant to be a reproduction of the persons main bass!!! However I guess as he uses lots of bass (non relic as far as I remember) he can do whatever he wants. -
for another 400quid you could get an amazing 2nd hand real Ric, why not just save up and wait like I did. These discussions remind me of the VW golf adverts,,,,,,,,,,,,sounds like a golf, but its not a golf......looks like a golf, but its not a golf...........feels like a golf, but its not a golf.

Squier Jaguar Moding/Upgrading advice sought
munkonthehill replied to indiegrungesound's topic in Bass Guitars
I have tried both the squier and modern Jags and no way are the necks thinner than the fender jags! infact if the fender Jag neck was any thinner it wouldnt be able to support the tension of the strings!!!! -

best overdrive/distortion pedal for a Orange Bass Terror 500w?
munkonthehill replied to barricades's topic in Effects
Hey buddy, I run the OBT head through the SP212 cab so know what kinda sound you have. I bought this pedal from here a while back when I had a Markbass combo as I wanted to dirty up the sound. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/119897-dha-vt1-di-drive/ The pedal is a OD, distortion, DI, bass boost pedal with a lovely tube to warm up the sound with a few diode selections to vary what you want from the unit. AMAZING bang for your buck and a great bit of luck buying this on a whim. Now I have the OBT this pedal really sings. It nails the dirty sound of rock/blues genre I play, however fire up the gain and a wee bit of selection on the colouring and it nails the distortion/OD of the llikes of Ace of Spades and Clubfoot. Dave Hall has some great pedals and hes a top bloke too so may be worth checking the for sale section or dropping him a line to see what he has. (and no, mine is not for sale hahaha). -
Agree with all the above really, but... Ampeg? Ashdown? Eh? ...Eh? Try the Ampeg without the SansAmp.
Fair doos,,,I dont really care enough to get pernickety. Just saying what I think. But to the OP,,,,you will chase a 'sound' that you will never quite get,,,then once you think you have it, you will jump on the next sound...If what you have is working for you, then KEEP IT.
-
seems a tad pointless, I have heard the sansamp gives a great tube sound. Plus you have matching head and cab which looks cool too. Your just going to be paying a few hundred quid for a sound you would probably get from your current setup mate.
my B2.1u is an integral part of my board and this is intriguing me a lot.
Whit,,,,,you were trying to offload that piece of gear for ages!!!! I know this for fact as I was nearly in contact with you
I love the single pup P tone. It's very recognisable as a P tone but it is more "woody" and old school sounding than the split P... and somewhat counterintuitively you can get some nice top as well as bottom out of that lonesome pup depending on the strings you have on (I like Status Hotwires). I wouldn't play one in the type of bands I play in but I do appreciate greatly what they do... I've had an RI, I built one for myself and I also have the first one Jon Shuker built. The neck on my RI was like a tree trunk so I think the leap from Jag to one of them would be quite a transition for some... I don't know if the Sting is the same (somehow I doubt it)... also the RI had reverse tuners - which was a bloody pain.
ah betty,,,,,,,from beast to beauty in the hands of Osprey guitars........surely an advert right there

want a gritty new head and dump my eden stuff
munkonthehill replied to grimbeaver's topic in Amps and Cabs
I got the orange terror and matching sp212 cab about 6months ago. I have used it at practice in a 5 piece rock/blues band and have plenty of headroom. I had it out gigging for the first time last week with a jam band which ranges from 3-5 folk at any time and I think I had the volume at 12oclock and the gain at 9oclock and it was plenty loud and just enough 'grit' for what I needed for the job, however if I dialed in more gain and turned the volume down it would have been even more awesome....I was a wee bit disappointed I couldnt use it in anger hahaha. I swapped the valves as recommended and I have to say the sound is warm and lovely. I was using someones terrible squier jazz but thankfully the rig sorted out a lovely sound regardless. I am one of these tools who swaps his gear every time it gets a spec of dust on it. Thankfully 6months on I still love this sound and of course the portability and weight
