1. Hopefully I'll be going to the Guitar show in London on Sat. If anybody is interested then please contact me and I can easily bring her along with me for you to have a look at. A let me know bump!!
 2. I'm just a beginner so this could be a good exercise for me, I could even ask my tutor for help with it as well as trying to work it out for myself. I'll probably fall well short of anything resembling the efforts of some you old "pro's" out there. But I think it'll be a challenge for me and a bit of a giggle so count me in too!! :brow:
 3. I can't believe that this is still for sale, with the amount of activity on the Stagg forum within BC. It must be the state of things out there cos I still can't shift my Cirrus 4 string. If I could I would be contemplating making you an offer. I'm just learning to play bass but my tutor also teaches Double bass too and I had a DB lesson which was so much fun. So I would love to get a Stagg to learn DB too, but i can't afford it at the mo. So have a bump on me!!
 4.
The guy who played for the last 2 years as part of the their comeback is a left hander (Lee Pomeroy). Being a fellow left hander, I was speaking to him a few weeks back and the impression I got was that he enjoyed the Take That gigs. Why shouldn't he.
He has also been out with Rick Wakeman and also supported Ozzy Osbourne at Wembley with his band Headpsace with vocalist Damian Wilson,(who is also with the brilliant prog rockers, Threshold), last year. So I think it's all a question time management, and making sure that you are free to do what comes along at the time. Why not do the function band just to get some GAS money, but also do your own material too. But I suppose that throws up what if your own project and the function band have a gig on the same evening...now that throws up another storm, doesn't it???
 5.
wish i had the money mate, i would buy this straight away tried one in noise works in coventry what a great bass bUMP...
Thanks for the bump and the kind words, you're right it is a great bass and she needs a good home.
 6.
It does indeed - you can have tabs, notation or both at once!
plus the option of the fretboard view too so you see it on the neck too! Quite good fun to watch some of the guitar solo's like Dragonforce for example. Now I know why I started to learn bass in old age. I can't move my fingers that quick
 7.
That's no excuse at all!!! so get composing, pronto!
Yes sir, I'll stay behind after school for extra tuition
 8.
Apart from it being illegal, a great reason to pay for it is that the more money they make, the sooner they'll bring out version 6! I paid for mine Better than Ultimate Guitar is 911tabs - it has everything on Ultimate Guitar as well as pretty much every other website and the search facility is better Anyway, Guitar Pro is brilliant not just for downloading other people's tabs and learning them, but also transcribing stuff yourself and composing your own tunes (if you're in an originals band or any sort of collaboration or even just writing stuff on your own, Guitar Pro is invaluable, I think, especially if everyone else has it coz then you can show them what you've written)
Totally agree with everything you say here but it's a bit of expense that not everybody can afford especially if you're not going use it regularly. 911 tabs is another great site. I totally forgot about the writing your own stuff, but I'm not up to that standard I'm still getting my head around scales and the like
 9.
I downloaded Guitar Pro ( free trial version ) the other day and so far been quite impressed with what I have found and how easier it is to learn from by soloing the bass line ( like a fellow basschatter I needed to learn Fool For Your Loving and it is hard to hear on the cd all the notes ) Just before I purchase what are your thoughts on it as a tool to learn bass lines from ?? What are the best sites etc ?? If I purchase do I get access to some form of official database etc ?? Anyone got a good library of songs etc ?? Thank you Tony
I've only been learning to play bass for around 8 months and I found Guitar pro an invaluable tool to use. To be honest I know I shouldn't say this but you can download it for free on any of the torrent websites but of course it's illegal and I don't condone doing it. You obviously missed my reply to fretmeister when he was aking for powertab tabs but there is a great website called Ultimate Guitar that is a great site for not only for guitar pro tabs but tab in general and well worth visiting. It may not have some obscure tracks that you might be after, but the track you mentioned is definitely available. As for a library of tracks yet again look on the torrent sites but just having a quick look you can download zip files with over 50,000 tabs in one hit. A lot are probably not what you are looking for but there will be some gems in there for you. I hope this is of some help to you mate?
 10. Whilst living in Germany I had the honour to run a Rock music webzine and part of that was to go to gigs and do interviews with bands etc. And from my experience I met a lot of talented musicians who are playing their own original material and they weren't making any money from doing so, in fact a lot of them ran at a loss all for the sake of playing their own material, and in some cases hating doing so!!! Having spoken to various band members over the years they all say the same, there are songs on the setlist which they love and can't wait to play and others that they look down at the setlist and think a f**k not that song for 25th time this tour, I wish we dropped it. But because "the fans love that track" it stays in the list. So it's case of swings and roundabouts. On the other hand too I've spoken to bands and they absolutley love the chance to play "covers" during their set just add a different element to their show, and in some cases they have actually done a better job than the original!! A prime example of integrity is in this months Bass Guitar mag, there's an interview with a ladieee bass player Grog, from Die So Fluid, (I've never heard of them myself), but she had the opportunity to play for Kylie, she was invited twice by Kylie's musical director to play and blew him out both times because she wanted to devote her time to her band this year. Which shows a lot of guts, but some may say that she is stupid because she probably threw away a sh*t load of cash in the process which she admits to have done. The way I look and think is that you have to way up the fact that yeah integrity maybe good for the soul and give you a warm fuzzy feeling but it doesn't keep a roof over your head and pay the bills. I've seen too many good musicians hit the wall and have to call it a day professionally and are only able to play their music as a hobby like a lot of us out here are doing.
 11. A nobody likes me everybody hates me bump
 12. I think playing in a function band could only be a good thing, cos you never know who might be in the audience! You could be playing a gig and there might be someone of note who is looking for a good bass player to fill a void left behind, and then your world could become your lobster as they say
 13.
Hey guys - I'll be playing at the LIMS - I'm in the house band for the Ernie Ball Guitar Idol competition, so if you'd like to see me getting roasted, come on over. 6 days to go, 12 mad instrumental tracks to learn in my spare time (of which I have about 20 mins... fun.) Dave
Hey cool any ideas about what time you're likely to be on at all? Maybe a good meeting point for all BC's??
 14. a cheeky Monday morning bump for straight cash sale or trade equal valued 5 string.....anybody??? Loads of window shoppers, a few tentative enquiries from guys, but no firm offers. Anybody out there want to make my day and make a firm offer???
 15. Bumpity bump for a trade on an equivalent 5 string to around the same value if nobody is interested in buying this baby
 16. Glad to help, Ultimate Guitar is a great place for tabs of all kinds whether it be powertab, guitar pro which I've just started to use plus bass tab. So it's worth bookmarking it!
 17.
As the powertab archive ahs closed - has anyone got the bass part for HYSTERIA on powertab they could email me? ta muchly Paul
Hi Paul Try this link Tab I hope this helps? Sy
 18. I would email back and say that you value his input to your lazy right technique but the reason for this is because you don't have the same strength in your wrist as he does, this is probably down to the fact that you obviously don't exercise our right hand as often as he does from choking his chicken on a daily basis!! This guy sounds like and is behaving like a total prat!!!
 19. I'd be really interested if I can sell my Peavey Cirrus 4 string which is for sale on here....unashamed plug Unless you are interested in a trade plus a few sheckles in your pocket?? Probably not...hehehehehe. I don't think you'll have any trouble getting rid of it though...so good luck
 20.
I really wanted to go to that, then i realised it was the same weekend as download, AND the ernie ball musicman bass bash! dammit!!! Why couldn't they have been 3 consecutive weekends? or the bass bash and the guitar show have been the same weekend but a different one to download? bah
Yeah it's annoying when that happens I had this whilst living in Germany over the past couple of years. I would miss either the Bang Your Head festival or Graspop fest. depending on which one I went to, because they were/are on the same weekend which the end of this month I'm missing both this year cos I'm going on holiday to Egypt.
 21. I'd be up for that I'll bring my limited knowledge of bass along with me
 22. Thanks for the bump Warwick, you're right there have been some on EvilBay a lot being sold by Peavey themselves and all going for around what I'm asking. But the ones on EBay have all had the preamp fault that I had problems with me 5er My 4 doesn't have that problem. So grab yourself a bargain and a great bass to boot!! Anybody interested? I'm probably going to the London guitar show next weekend so I could bring it there if you going. Let me know.
 23.
I'm putting my guitar on ebay!!!
+1 to putting my bass on EBay!! That's a classic and to be honest not to far from the truth!! A mate of mine is good friends with the guy that designed Jordan's keyboard stand. The scaffold swivelly looking thing that he's been using for the past few years. They delivered it just before a show in Rotterdam. When the arrived at the venue they took it to the stage and JP's tech was out on stage setting up his gear. He was going around with a spirit level out making sure that all of his backline and monitors were precisely level!!! apparently he get's quite pissy about it!! How anal is that??? Any thoughts about ear training too??
 24.
Yes, good advice. I would also add that studying music and just 'playing it' is probably doing more for your mind than your dexterity. Though I would place more importance on knowing where to put your fingers! There are specific exercises for improving muscle memory, dexterity and finger strength. I tend to shy away from machines or gadgets, but did find exercises that i could translate onto my hands in the gym did actually help!!!! (I must stress this was with the help of someone who knew what they were talking about, who helped patients rebuild hand strength after accidents etc) Anyway, I digress. There are 2 video / DVDs that gave me some great ideas about exercises to improve stamina to a metronome. One was a John Patitucci video, that unfortunately I can't remember the name of. Also Billy Sheehan, 'Bass Secrets' and 'On Bass' both have some good exercises in them. I love trying to work out guitarist 'warm ups' on bass too... as they can obviously play really quickly with those skinny-winny strings! Check out two of my favourites, John Petrucci and Paul Gilbert!
Thanks Dood, ahh the master that is Petrucci one of my fav guitarists too, just love Dream Theater!!
 25.
Scales: Major Minor Melodic Minor Diminished Augmented Chromatic in all 12 keys for two octaves. Then in thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths and sevenths Chordal arpeggios Major, major sevenths, major 9th, major 11th and major 13ths Minor " " " " " " " Dominant sevenths " " " " " dlloyd has a thread with all of this in somewhere. Work with the notes and a lot of your technique will develop simultaneously. Study music not technique. And buy 'The Jazz Theory Book' by Mark Levine - its ALL in there.
Thanks mate I'll give it a go.
