1. Has anybody got any good tips/exercises on how to improve my finger dexterity and speed. I've only been learning for 8 months or so but I still find my dexterity lacking some what. Also any tips on how to improve my ear when it comes to try and pick out notes, basslines etc. Any help gratefully received!!
 2.
i'm going down on the saturday - definitely going to be checking out billy and i think paul gilberts on too though i'm guessing not at the same time...! peace c
Billy is on satge just before Paul Gilbert, makes you wonder if they will get together to do a bit of Mr Big together?? I'm going on the Sat, noot sure if it's going to be with my mate and his son or with my wifey or maybe all of them
 3.
Yeah, I could record some noodling for you so you can hear how it sounds.
That would be cool!! Hope to hear some sounds next week then!!
 4.
I'll be going - I just got an email that I have won a pair of tickets from the Arts Council
Well done, that's saved you a few quid, more money to spend on gear whilst you're there
 5. Can't wait for that, any chance you might be able to do a recording of how she sounds too??
 6. Oooooooh that's pretty and I think you've grabbed a bit of a bargain there..congrats!! I'm dead jealous
 7. I think Stu will be there as he's been on tour with Satch recently. I suppose it depends if it's a "concert" or a clinic session?
 8. Are there any other fellow BC's out there that are thinking of going to this next weekend?? It would be good if we could maybe get together. I'm looking forward to seeing Billy Sheehan and even some of the drummers too.
 9. Well done on your new gig!! Sausages and beer you can't beat that..yummmmy!! We've got a pub near to where I live that does excellent in house home made sausages. In fact that's where I was last night!! Well done once again and good luck for the future
 10. Having measured it again I'm a bit confused!! If you measure from the nut to the 12 fret it meaures 17" so doubled should 34" scale, right? But if you measure from the nut to where the strings go through the body it's 35". So make of that what you will! I would say 34" like I said it's the same length as my ESP. Hope this helps?? Anybody interested? Is the price a fair one or is it a bit high??
 11. Yeah the "official" spec is 35 inch scale but when I've put alongside my ESP which is 34 inch scale it's the same. When I've measured it from the nut to the 12th fret it actually measures 17inches so making it 34".....strange I know. But I'll measure it again to make doubly sure I got it right Thanks the bumpage!!
 12. Due to the arrival of my new baby in the form of the RKS ABass, sadly this is for Sale and looking for a good home..... my Peavey Cirrus BXP 4 string Bubinga finish. Here are a few specs: 34inch scale with 24 frets Neck-through-body construction. Two Peavey VFL active pickups. Active three-band EQ with +/- 10 dB boost/cut. Black hardware. String-through, finger-style bridge. Pau ferro fretboard. Hand-rubbed oil finish neck/ Gloss Lacquer on Bubinger Model. Dual, expanding truss rod. It's got flatwounds on it at the moment but I'm throwing into the package a brand new set of Rotosound's and it comes with a Rockbag by Warwick gig bag. It's a really good condition apart from 2 hairline cracks in the laquer on the top horn which I've tried to capture and show here for you. These are subsurface cracks, the laquer is in tact and not flaking in any way and these don't affect it's playing ability in any way. It's a great thru neck bass and plays really well and is loud as death too!!! It's never been gigged, hardly likely cos I've only been learning for 8 months or so Only been used in my spare bedroom!! Would be great backup or suit a beginner like myself. All yours for £165 ono plus any postage costs but would prefer pickup from my place in Hampshire. Here are a few pics of her but if you would like to see more then let me know and I'll get some more up. If you have any questions then please PM me. Thanks for looking!!
 13.
Well by now you will have done your peformance, so how did it go? I posted a very similar thread about a year ago so I sort of know how you feel. That was a band situation though, your solo performance seems much more daunting. In fact even though I've probably notched up 40 or so gigs since that post I'd still think twice about going up there on my own! However it went, full respect to you for doing it.
Thanks mate I appreciate your kind words!! Well the moment came and went in a flash. I don't know whether it was nerves or just not having the time to set things properly which was out of my hands I couldn't hear my backing track very well so I slightly missed the start which kinda through me, but I got back into the groove and it went fairly well. Until the end which I normally stuff up anyway so over all it went as well as can be expected for my level of expertise or should that be lack of.... My wife said she thought that it was one of middling performances from all of the ones she has heard me do....and she's heard a fair few I can tell you!! She gave me a 7.5 out of ten which was kind of her I thought it was more like a 4.5 but maybe I was being too critical. But to say I've only been learning for around 8 months I think I did OK!! But I did enjoy the experience, butI think I'm a long way off playing Wembley Stadium but I've got the music school's Christmas concert to look forward to and prepare for!! Any ideas of good Chrimbo tracks to do?? I was thinking something corny like Slade or Wizzard......any other suggestions? Thanks to everybody that posted their thoughts and support I really appreciated you all taking the time to offer your advice. So a huge THANKS!!!! Sy
 14.
Good luck with your wonderful new bass. (If you ever in a moment of madness decide to sell drop me a PM)
Thanks Red I will do, she is getting her first outing at the music school I go to for lessons. They have summer concert and it's my first public performance!! I'll keep you in mind but I wouldn't hold your breathe about me contacting you in the near future Cos I fallen for her big style  Like I said Rich's pics really don't do her any justice she is totally gorge, even my wife said she was pretty!
 15.
I slightly disagree with some of the stuff here, I would personally say the more you think about it, and prepare, and run it round in your head, the more your nerves can get the better of you and you'll suddenly be thinking "what if that's not the right note there?" or "do I look stupid" or whatever. I find that if I just smile, keep an occasional eye on the other guys on stage and above all look like i'm enjoying myself, then there's nothing to be worried about, the only people that will really notice any mistake you make will be the guys in the band, and yourself, just pretend like they didn't happen.
Ain't no band mates to back me up I'm afraid...got to go solo for this gig. Just me, my new baby, (RKS ABass), and a backing track and the glare of the spotlight...eeekss!!
 16.
I'm so glad someone has taken a punt on this as I was trying to talk myself up to going for it myself! Just realised mine was a Symbass and this is an Abass and has the slightly longer top horn: I bet you are chuffed as they are so nice to play!
Oh boy you betcha!!! I'm well chuffed, Even though I'm learning to play bass she has come to a good home and will be looked after. I couldn't have wished for a better bass to learn on. Even though she is passive she has got the same punch and clout as my ESP 4 string which is active!!
 17.
I'll be the heretic then, I say get pi55ed and go mental. Make them force you off stage after 45 minutes of ham-fisted bass soloing and dodgy dancing. If you feel like you're losing them at any point, just get your willy out.
I'll use this as a last resort if the nerves get the better of me!! Thanks for all the pearls of wisdom I've been getting I really appreciate it, it's nice to know that I'll have the support of my fellow Basschatters. Cheers Guys Sy
 18. Tis mine...all mine I tell yah........I'm the very proud new owner of this absolutley stunning bass  My thanks to Rich, who is an aboslutlely top bloke to deal with!! He kept me informed of what was going at his end throughout the whole process, he packaged my new baby up really well, even ParcelFARCE didn't manage to do any damage neither!! :brow: To be honest I think I've just landed the bargain of the century for sure! One thing I would say Rich your pics don't do her any justice, she is much better looking in the flesh or should that be wood!! lol She is totally gorge  She is going to get her first outing on what will also be my first live public performance at my music school's summer concert. Thanks Rich it's been a pleasure dealing with you mate!!
 19. Thanks for all the advice I appreciate it!! There's a lot of good advice and to be hoonest I'm now looking forward to my little slot. I'll report back with how it went. Thanks guys
 20. Hail oh wise and wonderous basschatterrs......I've got my first public performance on Sunday,(at the tender age of 41 ), through the music school that I go to. It's their annual summer concert for all of the students that attend and like I said it's my first one, because I've only been learning for about 8 months now. I'm doing the classic 70's/ 80's rock track Doctor, Doctor by UFO as my piece. I was wondering if anybody has got any good tips for me for my first public outing please??? Not that I'm scared but I'm sh***ing a brick I've been practicing the track in the confinds of my bedroon and I've been kinda nailing it most times, how can I replicate my bedroom performance on stage so that I don't make a complete muppet of myself Thanks for any advice!!

You can use 7Zip as shown here or Winzip if you have it. Let me know of you have any problems - if in doubt just keep unzipping!!! Cheers ped
Thanks Ped with your help I've got it working...thanks mate!! Sy
 22. That's a luverly looking bass and at that I price I would definitely say it's a no brainer, I'd snap this up at this price without hesitation!!
Another alternative is the very good 'Hydrogen' programme - designed for Linux but now on Windows XP too. I really like it - easy to use and free: http://www.hydrogen-music.org/?p=main
I've downloaded this and it's a nice piece of software, but I'm having a problem with importing of drumkits, anybody else got this problem and do you know of any work around to the problem?
