1. What should you use to clean a walnut body, (indeed any type of natural unfinished wood like mahogany, rosewood, spalt maple, ebony etc) whether it be the body, the neck, or fretboard. What are the best things to use? I've been told conflicting things to use with walnut. Somebody said it should be lightly rubbed with beeswax and somebody else said to use lemon oil, what about a combination of both!!?? So what should I be using?? Anybody got any good tips on how to keep different woods looking good and tip top shape??
2. I think all of the above is good advice, it's me being lazy But you know what it's like when you get into the flow you don't want any to stop you. But there again my tutor is always telling me to slow down :brow: So maybe I should stick to just playing scales to my metronome, and when I need to change tempo just stop change it and then go on and stop being lazy Like I said I want to improve my dexterity issues, anybody any tips or patterns they use for this one?
3.
A little off topic, but I don;t think it's a good idea to increase the tempo as you are playing, else it might sneak in as a regular habit.
That's a good point about the increase of tempo whilst playing. I wasn't very clear. My instructor has told me to practice my scales using a metronome, (which I do!), and to slowly increase the tempo so that my dexterity get's better. I.E. say a Gmaj.scale starting at 70bpm a few runs throughs at this tempo then increase to 80 bpm a few run throughs, etc, etc. So I was looking for software which would enable me to do this
4.
Guitar pro is a fantastic programme which does this and a whole lot more! Of course, if you have no use for anything except an accelerating metronome, you might feel that you're paying a bit too much (€59), so here's a free version of something which does pretty much the same but is nothing like as good (I'm pretty certain it'll do your metronome thing though)
Thanks for that I'll give them a go!! If you know where to look most things nowadays are "free" Anybody have any other suggestions on any progs that they use too?
5. I've got the standard metronome software which I practice along too, that ticks along at whatever BPM that you care to dial into it to practice along to until you either get bored or tired out with that particular tempo and then have to stop change the tempo manually and loose the flow of your practice. I was wondering does anybody know of a metronome or some kind of metronome / music software that you dial in a setting that will gradually increase in tempo without having to stop playing. I.E. you say can start off at say 60 bpm and the tempo of the click gradually increase to say 140bpm or whatever tempo over a given period. Anybody know of anything out there that is capable of doing this at all??
6.
That's a good idea, I may have to try this one out if I'm unlucky enough to have any gear go wrong on me. Wooks - sounds like you've got a result if they're replacing it with freebies, still a pain in the arse though. Hope it works out mate.
Thanks mate I'll keep you posted when the newbie arrives with what sweeteners they throw in, which hopefully will be early next week :brow:
7. I'm not sure if you can say "copies" From what I am lead to believe they, (Tanglewoods, Carvin's and Hudson's and I think one other make) are all made at the same factory. So to an extent they are all copuies of one another. But looking at the TW and the Hudsons they are almost indentical. Carvin's do have different look to them.
8. A friend of mine has got a 6 string Hudson PBS, which is a Cranes Music Store copy of the Tanglewood. To be honest it looks exactly like the Tanglewood in every sense apart from the markings. Apparently it's a guy who works at Cranes who has a contact a the factory where the Tanglewood's and Carvin's are made and it looks like they are just rebadged with the Hudson name and markings. It might be they are kind of slight TW 2nd's that haven't made the TW grade and they have been sold to Cranes and rebadged?? Check out the Hudson here Hudson PBS Bass For the money on either the TW or Hudson you can't go wrong really, it sounds nice, lots of bottom end and it can pack a punch. The neck is nice to play. The only thing that he has said about it and I would imagine the TW will be the same, is when you are playing sitting down you need to wear a strap with it because it is unbalanced and is very neck heavy, well his 6er is maybe the 4 might not be so!??! This is because the body around the lower horn curve hasn't got much in terms of dimensions and is quite squat. Other than that it's beautiful piece of wood. The Hudosn is a real looker, and if you're lucky you might be able to pick one up from the link above and save yourself 60 squids! There is also a 6er on Fleabay check it out here Hudson 6er I suppose it all depends on whether you want to have a punt on the Hudson and go for the un-named TW that is a bit more subtle in colour, or go for the brightly coloured named bass?
9. Following this thread with interest! Here is a link for the safe case that Urb was on about Bass Safe Case Not a bad price for the possible peace of mind of knowing your baby will turn up in one piece! I know this with my Cirrus coming back with a dent in her and she only travelled from Northampton to Hants in the back of courier's van!!
10. JUst been on the phone to Peavey and it looks like I'm getting a Cirrus 5 string as a replacement for my damaged one. They are going to make sure it hasn't got he preamp prob, and make sure it is setup nicely. Plus a few bits thrown in as a form of compensation for the way they have messed this up. Not sure what I'm going to get but I'll be back with news once I get my baby back, which will hopefully be early next week...fingers crossed
11. A small update, just spoken to somebody at Peavey who are looking into what's happened and is going to get back to me with the possibility of giving me a new bass to replace my damaged one! Will let you know what the next step is laters.
12. I found out about the preamp problem by finding out that Peavey were selling gear on their fleabay site, and subsequently my cirrus developed the problem! I spoke to Peavey and they said it would cost £105 to have them do the repair or I think £60 if they sent you the bits and you do it for yourself. Might be worth giving them a call.
13.
If they made a 6 in these, i would def consider one. The only thing against it imo is that the ibanez sr500 is in the same price range, and i have a penchant for wenge necks! I would def try both those before buying. Good luck, Pete.
Pete they DO make them in a sixer check this Cirrus 6'r I'm sure they do a european model too
14.
I've had worse service, although I'm not gonna mention any names. I sent a faulty cab back 5 times before they finally fixed it . When I complained directly to the manufacturer they sorted out the problem faster then the speed of light. I would write a letter of complaint to Peavey. Try and find out the name of someone high up at Peavey UK and write direct to him (or her). You've suffered an unreasonable amount of aggro and also you shouldn't settle for a few token freebies.
Thanks for the reply. I think I'll contact Peavey UK tomorrow and find out who I can either speak to or like you said somebody high up who I can write to, to try and sort this out!
15. I've got a Cirrus 5 string in the Tiger Eye finish, so I guess you can call it dark wood It's a really cool bass, well it is when it works! See my post here about a problem with Cirrus basses Cirrus Problem. Other than that I would recommend the bass, they are great nice to play, the preamp has got some clout to it. But if you do decide to buy one I would make sure that you can find out if it's got the preamp problem or at least register it just in case!!
16. I've bought a Peavey Cirrus 5 string bass just after Christams. It developed what it turns out is a known problem by Peavey, in that the 18v preamp circuitry drains the batteries in 20 hours or less usage So I sent it via my dealer back to Peavey for them to replace the lectrics under warranty. So it went away and I was without her for a couple of weeks. Then 5 weeks ago she developed a problem with the treble pot in that when you turned it it made a good damn awful crackling sound which turned into a what sounded like a hip hop dj had crawled inside and was scratching his vinyl big style!!! So my dealer "sent" her back for another repair only Peavey or they say the courier "forgot" to pick her up so she was languishing at the dealers for 2 weeks before she finally went back. I spoke to my dealer and they said that last week she was being worked on. Then this morning the phone call came she was back...yippeeee! Ahh not so, she has been damaged in transit from Peavey to my dealer and has a nice dent in her bottom on the edge. The reason being Peavey hadn't packaged her up safe and snuggly, she inside her box that hadn't been properly packed or taped up!! This box inside another box with very little packaging or support to the guitar box What looks like has happend is during the journey she has slipped out of her box and has been "bouncing" around in the other box So now she's got to go back to Peavey yet again for assessment to see what they are going to do next. Now I'm not singling out Peavey, but have I been unlucky with their level of customer service or is this the norm with Peavey and guitar companies in general?? I am interested to hear of other problems you guys have had. I'll keep you up to date with things has they unfold, it'll be interesting to see if you cough up some freebies at least!!???
17. I got the best of both world's I suppose!??! I've got the Ashdown 300 Mag head paired with a Hartke 4x10 TA. I picked up both for £250 for the pair. And I love my Ashdown it's superb, and like Jono said you can get some great sounds out of it using the EQ. Plus the additon to the deep, bright and sub-harmonic button just give you a bit more if you want it. I wanted to get a Trace but I am more than happy with the Ashdown I would suggest going to a local store and trying one out for size.

Digitech BNX3

Anybody out there got a Digitech BNX3? If so any thoughts on it?

Rotosound

That's the one's I just like the look of them as I am thinking of getting a fretless, (see my other post on this), and look kind of cool. But obviously looking cool isn't always good especially if you got to part with 30 or 40 squid, hence why I asked the question as to how they performed. Will have a look at those. Thanks for the reply!!

Rotosound

Yeah I know this should be on another part of the forum but thought I would put it on here cos most of the traffic comes through this part of the site and I want to know if has anybody tried these at all Rotosound Black Nylon Strings If so are they any good, how do they play and sound do they last well? Or are there any other strings for a fretless bass that anybody can suggest??? Cheers
21. Has anybody tried these at all "Rotosound Black nylon strings" If so are they any good, how do they play and sound? Or are there any other strings for a fretless bass that anybody can suggest??? Cheers
22. I've just found this quirky looking thing on EBay and was wondering if anybody has ever seen one and if so what are they like? Weird Bass!!
23. Out of the ones I've found which would you go for?
24. It was a coincidence, I never noticed it really!! I would prefer it to be unlined. To be honest it doesn't look like a fretless if it's lined, call me a traditionalist??? I know it's going to make it harder learning how to play it, but I like a challenge!! So which one?????
25. Any suggestions on a 5 string fretless make and model? I haven't got a huge budget around £250 for my birthday at the end of the month. Had a look on Fleebay and I found these 2 EBay 5 string Fretless 1 EBay 5 string fretless 2 Or importing one from Germany like: 5 string fretless 1 5 string fretless 2 Other than these I can't seem to find many others that are in my price range So I was hoping that some kind person in bass chat land had any other ideas??
