Some observations, just because I can't help taking a fun topic seriously: All these comparisons are done with people's ears, which are easily fooled, and take little or no account of the frequency response of the amp and/or speaker, or how loud an amp could go before distortion reaches a certain level. We also 'measure' these things with our eyes, and with out prejudices and preconceptions fully engaged. There is a tendency to equate the weight of an object with quality. Ex.1 - the spec of my Hyundai is very close to that of the Mercedes I had before it, but the Merc 'felt' more like a luxury car but it was so weighty. Ex.2 - dialog from Jurassic park when boy picks up night vision goggles - 'Are they heavy?' 'Yes.' 'Then they're expensive.' Ex.3 - for a given power rating, a valve head will weigh more than a Class AB, which will weigh more than a class D. The closest thing we've had to a scientific experiment was the amp shootout at one of the Bass Bashes a couple of years ago - no-one could distinguish between valve watts, conventional (Class AB) transistor watts, and Class D watts. Despite this, people still make these same assertions. Of course Trace Elliot is the exception, for the reasons given in their educational video...

I play both guitar and bass, and can read on both, but to drastically different levels! On bass - a decent reader, and if in doubt I can still play something in keeping with the idiom and get away with it. On guitar - dots are more of a study aid, I struggle to read vertical groups in real time, and I feel a lot more exposed making mistakes. Nevertheless, when working out songs and writing them down for future reference, I always use standard notation, never tab (cue perennial debate...)

I often gig the 50W version - most satisfying! Makes a great recording pre-amp too, with the built-in 8-ohm dummy load.

Bought a pedal from Pete, always nice to meet a fellow BC-er, shame I didn't have time to stay for the refreshing beverage proffered!

Nice! Did you singist show up in good time?

I'm not so sure that's true. Any circuit, whether valve or solid state, is capable of imparting some coloration to the audio signal passing through it.

Flats on a Precision through a clean amp? Perfect for most of the music I play. If I need a bit more top, my flats of choice (D'Addario Chromes, Ernie Ball Cobalts) will respond to plectrums and popping. And they feel so smoooooth...

Hi you can try my Nano 300 if you like. PM me if interested. -
This treatment isn't reserved for bass players. I play guitar too, and I did a couple of gigs with an oldies band in which the singer / rhythm guitarist left no room for my amp and had his pedalboard behind him and in the middle of the space left for me to occupy - partly due to him having insufficiently long leads. I just moved bits over when he wasn't looking. This was the same fella that heaped loads of reverb on his vocal using a floor effect box, then wondered why he couldn't be heard clearly in the FOH PA and was suffering loads of feedback.

Ooh. Aah. Cantona. etc

Boss pedals are switched with JFETs, so my guess is that either one of them has died, or it or an ancillary component has drifted so that the JFET is no longer biased correctly.

Just taken delivery of the 6i6 2nd Gen, installed the software, plugged it in, and - cowabunga! This is one of those go-up-a-level pieces of kit No USB buzz Loads of headroom Easy-to-use software with lots of routing options Also I've got my request block size in Reaper down to 16 samples (3.6ms/2.4ms) - previously it didn't play nicely at anything less than 512 samples, despite setting the Roland Quad Capture to match. I call that a win on multiple fronts. Congrats @Sibob, your company makes great products!

Hey Blue, you could have smiled for the camera! Have a great gig

Can I suggest you get off the fence and say what you really think?

Yesterday afternoon actually. A superbly organised village fête with a western theme, hence they booked us - a country band. The promised 1k PA turned out to have speakers rated at 100W RMS, so we used it to augment our little 150W-per-side (mainly) vocal PA. This turned out to be surprisingly adequate to make us heard across a sports field. My Demeter/BF rig sounded huge and lovely without PA support. However, no electricity was engaged until it was made safe. I always carry a ring-main tester, and it showed no earth. The organisers traced this back to the industrial-style outlets on the club-house exterior wall, but couldn't access the box to fix it. I suggested setting up a local earth - drive a metal rod into the ground next to the stage, connected by a length of sturdy wire to an earth pin plugged into the distribution board. They also watered the metal rod, and by golly it worked! We kept the tester plugged in so that I could confirm we still had a good earth connection. I joined a band 4 years ago via a JoinMyBand advert, still going strong. I also use it to advertise my services as a dep, and we successfully recruited our current drummer using the site. So yes it can work, but as has been observed in many a thread, the site is not short of delusional megalomaniacs, time-wasters, and what I can only describe as feckin' eejits. The trick is to filter these out as early as possible...

Just snagged a refurbished 2nd Gen 6i6 from Focusrite's own website. Also noticed that their prices for pristine stock match the cheapest available elsewhere on line. Coolio.

Dodgy deal via Gumtree? PayPal protection??

Scam. That is all. -
And now they've brought out Gen 3. No direct replacement for the 6i6. The new 4i4 has as many outputs as the Geb 1 and Gen 26i6, but no digital in (boo!) and is USB powered (trying to avoid this!). I wonder if Gen 2 prices will start to come down now?

After some online searching, the main non-cosmetic differences seem to be: Improved latency / sample rate performance, but the new drivers will also improve the performance of the Gen 1 units at the sample rates that the Gen 1 units can achieve - see here; and Better gain structure for the instrument inputs. Also the seller say they have successfully used MixControl, so that sounds promising. @Sibob has very kindly promised to come back to me when he has a bit more time.
