1. As title really, I want help developing my soloing skills, which probably isn't every bass trainer's cup of tea.
2. I've got a swamp ash/maple Sire v7 and I can't get a sound I'm happy with, however I twiddle the knobs. I've had alder v7s before and had no trouble finding my noise. I had no idea ash and alder would be so different. Any one else found this?
3. Sire V7 4 string 'burst swamp ash and maple. One of the very first batch with Marcus Miller signed heel plate. Beautifully crafted, probably better than the latest ones (and I have had a later one). Small dent on the lower horn, some small buckle rash on the back and similar marks on the front, but only visible if you catch the light right. Overall it's been gigged but looked after and is in great condition. A previous owner has installed shielding in the electronics bay, and replaced the plastic knobs with metal ones. Looks fantastic. Comes with the signed heel plate which has been replaced by a 'working' plate for day-to-day use. Weighs 4.2 kg or thereabouts. Available for collection or I can post for an extra £20. Bass is located near Diss on the Norfolk / Suffolk border. Might consider trade for a Precision or five/six string with cash either way.
4. All I know is when I'm in the bedroom I need to turn the mids down to around 9 o'clock (bass and treble at 12) to get the clean nutty sound I prefer. But the minute I'm with the full band I need to to be flat to get a clean sound in the mix.
5. Just a gentle teasing ankle-show to see if anyone fancies my Sire V7 ash/maple sunburst 4 string. Bought this very recently. Although it sounds amazing I can't get comfortable with it playing blues, which is mostly what I do, so may go back to my Squier P bass. Used bass but gig marks are very minor - really a little belt rash on the back, and oddly similar on the front (?), but only visible if the light's right. Otherwise lovely. One of the early ones with a genuine Marcus Miller signature on the heel plate. Probably going to ask around £325 + postage. Not certain if I want to sell, just seeing if anyone might be interested.
6. Hi 62, top end gear (Markbass 11, Barefaced 210, Sire v7, Squier P backup), own transport. Mostly blues experience but with a dash of latin/funk. Looking for like minded group perhaps with an eye (ear?) towards doing their own stuff as well as covers.
7. Dunlop straplocks, complete strap and guitar side bits: Brass or 'gold' set £15 posted
8. Hi all, looking for recommendations for a monitor cab. I need to get mixer out to me and the drummer. I don't currently go through the mixer so it's just so I can hear what everyone else is doing, mainly the vocals.
9. Just bought Graham's Sire V7. After a slow start, in which I'd ask a question one day and he replied the next, which went on for a while, he became a paragon of helpfulness, efficiency and general full on-ness. Bass was great and the work he done on it seems good too. Deal with confidence.
10. Yeah, saw Alissia live at the Umbrian Jazz fest in '15. As good as the recording.
11. You must have read my mind before I wrote in it. I've tried pretty much every make of string and find whether I love them or not depends on the bass. At one point I had a Hohner 6 that I had to buy a hotel room for when i showed it Overwater strings, they sounded so good together. At the same time I had a Peavey Grind 5 that sounded great with D'Addario nickels. But one day I went mad and swapped them over and they didn't sound near as good on the other bass. But over time I have become a total D'Addario fan boy: EXL170s and the Chromes flats . For me the right tension, build quality, longevity and sound. But YMMV.
12. Not that gender makes any difference. But if you're seeking good female bassists for inspiration, try Berklee College YouTube channel. 13. Thanks.how did you get the vid to display please?
14. Still amazes me what you can do with the bass http://youtu.be/YyNwc2O5gRA Let it get past 1:45 or so and it takes off
15. I made my own and I'm no mechanic.

Found a bit of nice light pine wood the right thickness from an old posh wine box
Measured the size I needed to go on bass.
Sawed wood to size
Bought sandpaper sheet and stick it to INSIDE of a dustbin to roughly approximate the fingerboard /strings curvature
Rubbed block of wood against sandpaper until one surface convexly curved
Attacked all part of ramp with finer bits of sandpaper
Checked it fitted
Finish with paint or oil to taste
Attach with doublesided Sellotape
Or get someone to make one, don't know who
16. FWIW I had two Fender 112 cabs that at bedroom volumes sounded excellent. But they got ugly if you really turned the wick up. Same was true of a pair of TC BC 210s I had. So I bought a BF 210 which sounds good in the bedroom and excellent on the stage. But then I guess there's a very big difference in the quality of the drivers given the relative price of the cabs.
17. Or who post photos that are no more than dark silhouettes. "Here's my out of focus pic of my black bass on a black sofa against a brightly lit window, fill your boots."
18. ... respond. Bugs me when you're really keen on buying some gear and the seller just doesn't respond, either because the item's gone and they didn't flag the changed status or because they don't check their messages or the for sale thread. Grrr...
19. My beef with the comps is with the follow through on prizes too. A while back he had a whole slew of several top items up for grabs - amp, cab, bass and other stuff. Instead of allocating one item to each of several winners the whole lot went to a single person in Ireland. What a waste. You get the impression that once the competition has raised attention the rest of it isn't worth bothering with. I learned almost everything that has made me any sort of bassist from Scott and I find him inspirational. But much of what he does is too difficult for the average Joe and as others have pointed out much of his latest stuff is the opposite and more to do with being in his 'gang. Thanks to Scott I regard myself as a journeyman bassist, but if I need help now I'm more likely to go to down to earth practical sites like Talkingbass.net. There must come a point when SD has accessed every bassist on the planet. When they've all tried it and found it too cerebral, or on the flip side, too - well, flippant - presumably much of his client base will disappear.
20.
Scott has nothing but good things to say about these...I'm thinking about getting one - not sure which though.
I've had four, you can't go wrong. Only thing is it feels like everyone has one... not special, you know. But as a working bass - awesome, and then some.
21. All being equal and if I lived next door I'd have had this off you qucik as wink. I had a Warwick fet head and it was like a Rolls Royce, from the knobs to the sound. But then you lift ited and it has the weight of a RR too - and that's just the head. I just looked up the weight of the 410 and its 31 Kg. In an era when you can get a Barefaced 110 which will handle up to 500w and weighs 7 Kg and heads you need to put a beer glass on to stop them blowing away in wind, this may be part of your problem. Love's a struggle if she's a porker.
22. These are stonking basses. Quality for nothing money. Glwts
