Moollon

Scott Devine raves about his in a recent vlog, comparing it to Fender Nate Mendel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YarWwi7gRqI
2. Nah, Fodera, Fender et al are just overpriced Squier clones. Me and a few other cogniscenti are sticking with the quality
3. Goodness me! Lots. I'd be astonished if they were being remaindered soley to make way for new stock, aren't the new basses the PJs and therefore supplementing the range and not updating it. Basses go B stock for many reasons.
4. Thanks guys. I wonder if it isn't intentional. Looking down the bass from the top end, the 'pissed' string tree is only wonky relative to the headstock, it's actually tangental to the sharp curvature of the fingerboard, given that it takes the higher 4 strings only. See pic. If it also took the B string then it would have to be parallel to the headstock. I think I answered my own question. Basses - endless fun for all the family.
5. I have a Barefaced Retro 210 in near mint condition but I need the 4 ohm version. If you also have this cab in similar condition but need to come the other way, that is, you have a 4 ohm but want a 12 ohm version for more flexibility, I'm keen to talk.
6. I asked Barefaced to quote for the work. Reply was 'we're too busy to deal with this'. Make of that what you will.
7. The string tree on my newly acquired VMP appears to be wonky, higher under the E string than under the D by a good margin. Plus the screws are in at angle looked at down the length of the bass. Can you do me a favour? If you have one of these basses can you tell me if yours is the same. If yours is parallel to the headstock surface can you tell me what height the underside of the string tree bar is above the wood of the headstock. Thx.

feedback for Deedee

Just bought a squier vmp5 off deedee. Not even got it yet and already super impressed with his efficiency and unflappable cooperativeness. Awesome chap.
9. Fender N3. You need to be more specific Alex, what do you want people to do?
10. If you've tried finding a secondhand 500w cab you'll know it isn't super-easy. Most cabs are 300w or under. This Ashdown ABM500 Compact 1x15 is the real deal. 500w, and I have an email from Mr Ashdown to say so! So if you have a 500w head and an 8 ohm cab and need another to free up all those lovely watts, here's the answer. Previously owned by a jazzist who swears he never turned this cab up full and he had it from new. The covering is a little scuffed in places and torn slightly on the back but nothing too awful by any means. See pics. Handles and feet in good nick. Dimensions (H x W x D): 474 x 610 x 420 mm Weight: 28 Kgs. Hefty lift but no problem carrying it about because it's quite compact. Due to size and weight I'm not posting it, but will deliver up to 25 miles for £10 petrol money. So that's Ipswich, Norwich or Bury. Now £125
11. I'm now rockin a Markbass head, Barefaced Retro Twin + Ashdown ABM500 15 incher to get my full watts allowance. Like I said at the start this isn't a match totally made in heaven. But I'm on at the Dereham Blues Fest in July and have been warned I need mega trouser flapping capability. And playing blues with flats, oomph is probably more important than tonal niceties and delicate harmonics. I have been told upping my wattage from around 300 - 500 won't really make that much difference. But I'm not yet totally sure about that. With just my BF cab on the head, full throttle is noisy but not too huge and I would worry about it being lost in a big hall with drums and heavy guitar. Hook the Ashdown into the mix and anything over 2 o'clock on the gain knob is getting unpleasant. So I think it does make a difference.
12.
I'm still waiting for an opportunity to try their cabs.
It's easy. Order one. You have a 30 day trial period and if you don't like it, send it back for a refund! Might cost you a few bob in carriage but otherwise not a problem.
You can get the TWO10!with a 4ohm/12ohm switch. I had the first one.
With a switch? That's such a good idea. Why was this not mentioned to me... or this a long ago thing? Do not do the DIY conversion. Your hair will drop out and your wife will leave you. I am hoping to pay Alex to do it.
13. There's no doubt, Claber's cabs rock. To squeeze full watts from my throttled 210 - it's only got 12 ohm I gods - I keep trying it coupled with various other cabs - Ashdown, Vandekley - but nothing is so lovely as yer actual basic Barefaced noise. If I can persuade Alex to swap my gubbins for 4 ohms then I can use it standalone. And live happily ever after.
14. Totally a Dunlop fan boy
15. Oh no, if she'll so easily drop her pickguard for a stranger I'm not sure I want her anymore. Lol
16. do you ever come north at all - I'm in suffolk
17. Thanks for the vid. Great piece of playing. How do you cope with that huge amount of backbow in the neck tho, it's looks like a banana!
18. Just think twice before allowing a 'guide' to take you to Stratford as apart of a quick tour of London. Stratford upon Avon is the home of Shakespeare and a lovely place but many miles north of London. Stratford is a dump in East London. I second most of the advice given above. Planned carefully you can see a lot of great stuff in London in a solid day, but you may need a lie down afterwards!
19. you may find it diifficult. wood doesn't grow on trees, you know
20. I have a set of brand new 4 string Dad NYXL 45-100s. Played three times. I realy should have got what I wanted which was a set of La Bella FL flats. If you want to come the other way, straight swap or cash adjustment your way possibly. or £23 inc postage
21.
I tried the NYXLs and ended up back with the EXL balanced tension sets that I have used for quite a while now, probably since they were introduced. Couldn't put my finger on exactly why but the NYXLs just didn't do it for me.
Now fitted and I see what you mean. Yes they do make my P bass sounds a good deal more flexible tonally and probably ideal for blues fusion. And yes they do have a nice tone. And yes they do feel nicer than new nickels. Are they worth the extra money? Reminds me of when a crazy clay pigoen shooter (me) paid £30 to a gunsmith to shorten his stock by 1/4 in 'because it might make all the difference'. Right.
