Forbassplayersonly - New bass website

I love the site simply for the fact that it's informed me I share my birthday with Marcus Miller. Yay! -
2 sets of used strings, x1 Sadowsky Blue Steels

I'll take either or both if dannybuoy or stevie don't take them. Just PM if that's the case, but no worries if they're gone. -
Personally I dislike the Kaiser Chiefs and find their music annoying (no offense to anyone who likes them). What I don't understand is why such a mediocre band would need such a high end instrument. I'll probably get a bit of stick for what I just said but it's how I feel. That aside, I think Shuker may have made a wrong move on this one. I may be wrong but it seems to me followers of the Kaiser Chiefs are generally young beginner players who wouldn't be able to afford a bass made by Shuker. They would probably go for something like this squier to get the look without spending a fortune. Don't get me wrong the bass is lovely but i'm not sure the endorsement is right for Shuker's customer base.

Just stumbled across this on the fender site and thought i'd share. May not be to everyones taste but it offers a jazz profile neck on an acoustic bass, similar to the victor bailey acoutic bass but cheaper. Link to fender site here. And a link to where you can buy them here. There may be better acoustics on the market for less but i'm no authority to deliver that verdict as i've never owned one.

Are you sure they aren't Zoolander Blue Steels? (sorry to those who don't get it, it'll only make sense if you've seen the film) -
I couldn't live without my stingray or my jazz. They both wiegh roughly the same but the stingray has much better balance. Tonally they are completely different, the ray being very punchy in the mids and at very low frequencies, great for cutting through in a band situation. The jazz gives a tone which natuarlly lends itself to slap with both pickups on (a sort of boosted bass and treble sound) and a fingerstyle 'ducky' sound with just the bridge pup (a mid rich sound but sharper than the ray). For those reasons I generally use my stingray for disco and rock stuff, and my jazz for funk and jazz. I'm not an expert on string tension but i'd say the ray feels slightly tighter which personally I like but the looser feel of the jazz lends itself to faster playing. As far as choosing between the two i'm not sure what to say but you could try musicman sterlings and bongos, particularly with the HS pickup configuration. I think that's the best way of getting somewhere between a jazz and a stingray.

Anyone see Maceo Parker at the Jazz Cafe?

I know Zak went ('Duarte' on the forum). I really wanted to go but had exams . Oh well, i'll take comfort in the fact that I once saw James Brown in concert. Amazing. -
Institute of contemporary music performance in London

I went there on an open day and the tutors are brilliant, all really nice, supportive and talented people. I'm considering it as a university alternative (the degree course) although I have found a university course at UEA that I like the look of. -
I think second hand stingray prices are going up at the moment, i've seen second hand 4 string rays selling for around £750-800 recently. Last summer they were selling for around £500 on ebay, absolute bargains at that price. They are truely great basses though. Not the sort of bass you'd see a solo bassist playing but in a band situation they're pretty much unbeatable. And they're rock solid, unlikely to have any problems when gigging, a proper workhorse bass. I would recommend trying out as many Stingrays, Sterlings and Bongos as you can before making a decision. See which one fits your tone and feel.

I want one of these at the moment but don't have the money. http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_victor_bai...ssv_b_stock.htm It's what i'd have if I were in your position anyway.

So your going for a sorta Levin vibe with the trans black. I'd like to see how it turns out... probably something like this I guess.

OMG ! This is so cool (midi without the mpup)

This may sound a bit mental but could you use an octave up pedal running into that and then an octave down pedal after it. Does that make any sense? -

My Warmoth 50s P has a precision thickness neck with jazz width at the nut (it's supposed to be like that, not a standard J) and I get on with it fine. It seems to fit the hand a bit better and I find my wrist hurts less when playing for long periods of time, at least compared with my JV jazz which has an uber-skinny neck.

Damn, now you've given me 22 fret envy.

Roughly the same pricing as SUBs and nobody ever complained about them. I always go for second hand anyway so the RRP doesn't affect me.
