1. Living on a Prayer-Bon Jovi. Did this for the first time last night and instant dancing was produced! The Chain is in our setlist and one of my favourites, not just because of the F1 bass solo at the end but I love the vocals. Did a gig a while back and a guy came up to me afterwards and said " I loved the way you put the F1 theme at the end of that song, did you just decide to do that tonight as a jam or have you done it before!" I nearly choked on my beer! But he was -30 years old so probably had genuinly never heard the song before. Made I larrf though it did!
2. Got a Superfly on here a few months ago and despite some of the press it's been getting it's been mega reliable............until last night! I've just got my speakers upgraded and at the last couple of gigs the rig has really kicked ass but last night I set up as normal and when I switched on there was a dreadful crackling noise coming out, a bit like bad static but with added crackling. Now it's been in the boot of my car for a while so first thought was maybe it was damp, not a good combination. Luckily I had a spare amp with me although I could only drive one speaker as the ohmage was wrong for two. I'm just at the point where I was going to get a power amp and run the little bugger as a pre-amp as I love the sounds that it makes. I'm sort of guessing maybe a dry joint, I hope it's nothing too drastic as the plastic has taken a hammering getting my speakers sorted out. Just when I get things nearly sorted and bang, another problem! I'll get it looked at tomorrow probably, I was supposed to be trying it out with the power amp with the guy that upgraded my Acme and supplied my 1x15 but now I guess he has a repair job to do, but if any one has any suggestions (other that the usual dump it/burn it comments) let me know!
3.
I think that your best bet is just to practice more.I'd never recommend practicing blindfolded or whatever, just spend more time with the bass until the neck becomes second nature, and you don't need to look at it. Maybe you just aren't familiar enough with it for it to become your 'main' bass just yet.
This is probably the answer, with work and being ill for a bit I haven't really touched the bass, first gig I did with it I played a blinder in a very good lighting situation, 2nd gig, well not good. Played there again last night and with lights out the stage was almost in darkness, strange that they have bands on all the time, have a stage but then turn all the bloody lights out. Typically the guitard didn't bring his little floor lights so the first 2 songs were like playing with a blindfold on even though I had put some yellow dots on the fretline edges. got a bit of light on behind and all was better. Think I had better knuckle down to some practice, I've also got a small clip-on light that I can shine down the fret edge like the Fretlord that will help too!
4. Is that a Mark 1 Jack S***? If so I have a Mark 2 butt always prefered the 1, would you do a trade plus a bit of f*** all my way?
5.
Man I know how that feels! As soon as I put my fretless on at an EP launch I played at, I thought ''hang on, theres not much light here!'' I struggled but no one noticed any different! Day glo stickers and such is a cracking idea! Ill be doing that! Dan
I did my first gig with it a couple of Fridays ago and there was plenty of light and I didn't think about it until the next night at another venue and it was Darksville, Arizona! I'd planned to get some day glo stickers this week as we are back there Friday but have been laid up ill all bloody week so might have the same problem again....doh! I'm thinking LEDs in the future if the bass becomes a keeper, loving it so far but you know what us bassplayers are!
6. Just found this.... http://www.undergroundsai.co.uk/About_Us.html
7.
You can just put small white or day-glo circular stickers on the side dots. No-one can really see them apart from you. Art shops sell such things - WH Smiths too.
Yeah I'm guessing this might be the way, problem is I need to mark the fret so it will be dot central on the side as the currents dots are in the middle of the fret!
8. I'm now using my Yammy Trb fretless as my main bass but find it a bit difficult in a dark venue. The side dots are in the middle of the fret and the side fretlines are hard to see. Has anyone found a (cheap) solution to this at all? I guess I could get some flourescent dots in the appropiate places, bit worried it will look naff. Practicing in a dark room is the best option I guess
9. I like the Superfly and so far the one I have has been no problem at all. I'm also thinking of running it as a pre amp using the line out into a power amp with 400+ per side into an Acme LowB 4ohm with Precision Device drivers that are on order as the original tens are a bit knackered and an Eminence loaded 1x15 8ohm. This also gives me the option to get another 8ohm cab to run the Superfly on its own with 3 cabs, ie the Acme from one output and 2x1x15 from the other. Lots of options and of course rehearsals will be just the Superfly plus the Acme for a nice easily transportable rig.
10. Chilling with a bit of Buble......Crazy Love (Hollywood Edition)
11. Sex on Fire,Dakota and bloody Freebird which to me sounds pants as we only have one guitard but every pub we do wants to hear it. Admittedly he's a bloody good guitard and me and the keys try to back him up as best we can but it just doesn't do it for me. Just started doing Hero, Nickelback/Chad Kroeger and that is starting to grate as well! Still, the other 30+ songs are good for me
12. I was working in the lab late last night......................well the Fox and Hounds in Walton on the Hill! Me on the right! And lurking in the background! Had to stop for petrol on the way home, now that caused a stir!
13. Damn, drove past the scene on way back from York with a group on the coach and we were bemused as to why the road was closed as the other vehicle involved seemed to have minimal damage and no other vehicle could be seen! Now we know why and it's a damned sad outcome, RIP to the lad, sounds like he was a goodun and my thoughts are with family and friends
14.
DR do make an exceptionally good string. Any of the variants that use the round core feel just that little bit softer than many other strings, and just making playing fretless a touch less demanding on the aging joints in my fingers. Which variant did you opt for?
Lo Rider Nickels as recommended, cracking sound! Band were raving about my new bass, looks and sound, and the strings really complimented it. Very nice low B, plenty of punch for the rock stuff but also very nice when EQ'd for mwaah!
15.
Depends on your playing style. But there's always the option of ground/half wounds. My BB5000F is currently strung with DR Lo-Rider Nickels. I'd previously used D'Addario Chromes, but didn't get the best out of the string or the bass with that combination.
Got some of the DRs in the end....very nice indeed!
16. TRB 1005 5 string fretless............picked this up last week, rehearsed it tonight for the first time, totally blown away! Fantastic bass, Mwah,rock,funk......it's got it all! Nicked pics from the Ebay ad, will post some better ones soon!
17. Thought I could buy it but the money didnt work out, sorry to mess you around Ky, BUMP!
18.
Chic or EW&F
+1 for Chic, I've played and loved rock all my life but also been massively into Level42 and other such stuff but to be there with Nile and the girls would be heaven!
19.
I used La Bella deep talkin flats on a Warwick Corvette fretless and they sounded good. I put a spare set on my 1005 and they sounded really wooly and unfocussed. I put the round-wounds back on, so I don't have an answer for you, just a warning. David
Do the rounds mark the neck much?
20. Got the above arriving soon, previous owner says the strings are a bit old so what is there to be recommended? I need some mwah but still need to rock out a bit. Do I need extra long scale strings for this bass, 35 length I believe? Cheers.
